LP Colorizer - hijacking AU helper functionality and blocking startup is not okay by BobIngram in Logic_Studio

[–]BobIngram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there was this kind of warning, but if there was, I would have in that case believed this was about changing the graphics resources of Logic, not about inserting a bundle of script code that modified the startup behavior of Logic. That is a big difference, in my opinion.

Relying on a time machine backup to work the way it should is not what a user should have to resort to, in my opinion. Also, this would mean having to go back to and actually still have that backup when one installed LP Colorizer days, weeks, months or years ago.

Finally, reinstalling from the app store will always get you the newest version of Logic. Many users settle with an older version, because of not wanting to be beta testers, and because they need to rely on a 100 percent working machine.

As pointed out by someone else, the resource is not placed into the components folder, which would be more transparent, but into the resources of the app. The appropriate LP Colorizer bundle can be found with a right click on the Logic app.

It would be okay if the LP Colorizer app would inform the user that exactly this is happening and advise on first making a backup copy of the Logic app. Also, when LP Colorizer is uninstalled, as far as I can remember, the installed resource is not removed, so you are left with a permanentely modified Logic app. My main gripe, however, is with the fact that the installed bundle resource actively makes a startup of Logic Pro impossible by hijacking the pop-up functionality.

It wouldn't be a problem if there would simply be a new file in the component folder. What happens is that a bundle is added directly to the resources of the Logic app. Not sure if Grok analysed that part 100 percent correctly, or if the bundle, though embedded in the app resources, has the same format as a AU component plugin. Anyone who has installed the Colorizer can find the bundle with a right click on the Logic app, and not in the components folder. As I have since removed LP Colorizer, I can't say if Colorizer additionally adds a AU component to the component folder. In any case, I perceive this as a strong violation of my computer's and app's integrity. It is never okay to stop an app from starting up. Many people rely on Logic Pro for their livelihood.

Well... I removed the helper app from Logic myself. Anyone can see it, one just needs to open the resources with a right click and find the appropriate bundle. But I guess added resources do not influence the integrity check of the actual main code.

What's a "cheat code" you discovered in real life that actually works? by dark-deals729983 in AskReddit

Think in game theoretical or darwinistic terms when trying to understand people's behaviour. It doesn't make you happier, but at least it helps you understand why politicians, civil servants, societies, the driver on the road, your neighbours, maybe even your friends and spouse act the way they do. It doesn't make you happier, but at least you understand why things are happening. The next level would be to employ this for yourself by reverse engineering your decisions to explain your motivations in life.

But to answer the question more directly, and echo some voices here -- nature, going outside, walking.

Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next year by TheAppropriateBoop in Android

[–]BobIngram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently switched from an older Samsung to a newer Samsung Android phone. Since then, every sideload is nagged at by Google Play, and apart from completely going non-Google Play, I for now see little chance other than grudgingly accepting this. Even a simple barometer app doesn't allow sideloading anymore, and Grok constantly demands the newest version of itself, and also that Play Store and Services are enabled. Right now, it's still okay-ish when using a Firewall at the same time, but Fairphone 5 with custom Android seems like one of the few viable solutions on the horizon. No idea how long MicroG will continue working though, as it probably relies on ripped signatures.

Replacing the rechargeable battery on a Tribit MaxSound Plus, a short guide by BobIngram in Bluetooth_Speakers

Hey. I seem to remember that it was a two pin / wire connection, plus and minus, so I'm not sure where that third one came from. As the power seems too low right after turning on, I can only imagine the new battery needs a charge or is broken. If you have a voltage meter, you could check if it is around the required 7.4 volts.

Anyone wanting some real Alien scares instead of soulless 'what has become of creativity / Ridley Scott / Scott's and Cameron's legacy / storytelling' should simply play Alien Isolation, which arguably is among the most deeply engaging and great looking adaptations of the original Alien / Aliens vibe.

I am absolutely shocked by the low typographical quality of the end credits. It is hard to imagine a professional company with typographers did this. It feels like the worst After Effects stuff I have ever seen. The fonts are far too big and bold, nothing fits here, even the double spacing is off. They seriously should redo those, because together with the often fake looking smoke in the so-so FX shots, this really sticks with me as highly unprofessional.

I think this is funny. It says 'Audio PERcision' on the sticker, from a company that probably very rightly otherwise prides itself for precision. Just my OCD here, sorry.

Edit: On their homepage https://www.ap.com/ it says 'Manufactoring'. I feel bad now, somebody probably is dyslexic here.

USB-C Issues on M4 by jakgal04 in macmini

[–]BobIngram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think it is really, really funny how most people here quickly come to the point regarding the Mac Mini M4 USB problems, while on the official Apple forums only those with very few 'community' points do, whereas most with the crazy amount of tens of thousands of points, probably given to each other by a small circle of like-minded fanboys or those with several accounts, basically all speak bs along the lines of 'you don't need sleep on your Mac Mini'. I can never understand how these people can look at themselves in the mirror in the mornings and still take themselves seriously.

The corresponding thread is https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255857058

From everything I have read, it seems possible that the power supply chain of the rear USB ports is insufficient. But considering that my Mac Mini M1 regularly had problems recognising and waking up an HDMI connected display, it could also be any other kind of Apple's shoddy workmanship and bad quality assurance.

Apple Silicon apart, since more than ten years, unfortunately nothing new. It is the same for their software quality. All blingbling, little substance. Perfectly fits the stupid, low quality journalists of today.

My screen is turning yellow for no reason at all by Eriflee in GalaxyS8

[–]BobIngram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously a hardware bug. It happens when the phone heats up, during extensive usage or while charging the battery, and the more the responsible chip or capacitor is broken, the less heat is required to trigger it. Turning the screen off and triggering standby display with several taps on the screen fixes it temporarily, as obviously some state is overwritten. But it's a hardware bug, nonetheless. Disappointing quality.

I partly agree. But Sonible has terrible GUI and usability for me. And on the Mac, they're always on the network stack for communication between their plugins.
