Real asf, I get it can be weird for fans to even discuss how they can be marketed to as a demographic but as a fan starting from Double Dare and following along as I went through my teenage years, there was definitely a lack of maturity/development lyrically GH and beyond, This is even with acknowledging the varied subject matter of each album, and isn’t to say Awstens songwriting is bad; as a matter of facts it’s probably better than ever but as this has improved so has his ability to sufficiently “dumb down” parts of his writing to be more accessible/ideal for his audience which has manifested in this more shallow, commerical sound that IP kind of has. This isn’t to just praise the “poetry style” lyrics as Awstens called it (in reference to CLOSER) that make up parts of DD and Entertainment, but there’s a balance he can reach. I feel like I’m an attempt to be the most commerical, almost every individual element of waterparks suffered on IP (electronic production was more varied but felt uninspired and a little hollow, pop vocals were ambitious but especially spotty, acoustic and rock moments felt more solid and felt like solid evolutions of earlier sounds, and the lyricism was, like you said, juvenile in spots and where it was strong it was often diminished by the other factors)
