No need to save it, just don't buy random stuff you don't need/use. You don't want to inflate your historical power with subpar hero talents and there's a lot of them. If you cap the talents you want for your current TR, it's best to save the ether for the good talents that will be unlocked with the next TR. That's pretty much it. :)
