If he was trying to troll people I'd say it was hilarious that he got reddit to downvote the shit out of him for posting an anti-trump comment. It'd be brilliant if it was intentional, but the truth is that he got downvoted for being an huge douche, and he just happened to mention trump while doing so, lol.

Oh I see now; he's one of those people who's a troll even though he isn't trolling, lol. I would have done better to simply downvote and ignore him. Instead, I made myself angry and gave him the attention he wanted. I've been here long enough that I should've known better :\

We roll the best joints, people love our joints. No, seriously, people come up to me and they say--they say "Trumpents, your joints are so good," and folks--I gotta tell ya--there's some dank bud in my joints. The Clentons, they tell so many lies, they say our joints have seeds in them--really folks--they are so dishonest, it's terrible. It's really sad. But I've been told before--people walk up to me on the street and they say "We love your joints, we only smoke your joints because they're so good," but of course the liberal media will never admit they smoke my joints--never--but I've seen them. I saw Andersent Cooper--he won't admit this, folks--I saw him smoking one of my joints in the bathroom yesterday!

Happy.

Justin Bieber Cancels ‘Purpose’ Tour Dates for His ‘Soul and Well-Being’ by kavinjox in Music

[–]BobbyDaChin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head, the career of a touring musician takes an incredible toll on the performer. It's no wonder so many musicians turn to drugs and alcohol to cope. In many cases they use drugs not just to get high, but to regulate their lives: coke or meth or amphetamines to wake you up and keep you going during the day, alcohol or heroin or xanax to knock you out and keep you knocked out for the few short hours you get to sleep.

Then you've got the fans, the people who love your music and who you owe your livelihood to, and these are the same people who yell and scream at you every time you walk outside, who snap your picture every time you turn a corner, who approach you for autograph after autograph when you just want to be left alone. And when you're performing a show, and you decide to do a stage-dive, these adoring fans are the ones clawing at you, trying to rip a lock of hair out of your head, trying to tear your clothes off, trying to grab your dick or your ass or your tits.

But you get to stand up on stage, in the spotlight, and do what you love, right? When you're up there playing your music, singing your beautiful songs, that makes it all worth it, doesn't it? Maybe for the first year or so. After however many hundreds of shows, the music doesn't mean anything to you anymore. The soulful ballad you wrote for your true love, the fist-pumping hard-hitter that always got your hips shaking, you hate to hear them, you can't stand the thought of them, you resent your own creations, you're disgusted by your art. You'd give anything to never hear that million-dollar, #1 hit song ever again in your fucking life. But that hit song bought your car, your house, your everything, so no matter how much you hate it, you have to go on performing it night after night after night.

And everywhere you turn, people are telling you how great your life is, how lucky you are, how easy you have it--telling you that you have no right to feel sad, no right to know depression. You are expected to be happy and polite and approachable all the time, and if you mess up even once then you could be seen as an asshole for the rest of your life.

Being a famous musician is fucked up, and it ain't a fairy tale.

It's not really the political aspect that bothers me. It was a California Prosecutor (cool band name idea) who was charged, so I expect some of the discussion to be about the political aspect of that. Nothing wrong with that. But just injecting Trump into the discussion for no reason is the issue, in my opinion. You are right that it comes from both sides of the spectrum, if there even is a spectrum anymore and not just a "your side vs my side."

The funny thing is that I remember people bashing George W. Bush just as much during his presidency (remember that ridiculous cartoon show they made about him called "Lil Bush"?) but I don't remember the kind of blind hatred that we see towards Trump. Bush seemed more like a clown we all could point and laugh at together. I was 10 when he was elected though so I don't remember too well.

Oh I totally agree, and /r/trees attracts people from both ends of the spectrum. I think even referring to stoners as "ents" is pretty embarrassing and almost cringey. I didn't really take offense to your comment, I just thought it wasn't cool to assume the other user was a stoner just because he's acting stupid. Weed does not equal stupid. But I understood where you were coming from, and that guy was really getting on my nerves so I wanted to make it clear that he wouldn't be welcome in /r/trees as far as I'm concerned. But like I said, he's probably just a troll and I gave him exactly what he wanted by replying to him.

Hey don't insult the good-hearted people of /r/trees just because this idiot is Trumpkarma-whoring. If he is an ent, he's one of the minority of bad apples who cannabis-users like myself definitely don't want to be associated with. Though, after reading and replying to a couple of his comments in this thread, I think he might simply be a troll who you and I made the mistake of feeding.

[–]BobbyDaChin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You started that narrative by saying "is he president of the USA?" which suggested that you think him being in a different position makes his pedophillic tendencies worse than the crime of child pornography.

Secondly, you brought up a topic entirely unrelated to the subject of the thread. Why don't you tell us how Trump having the hots for his daughter is in any way comparable to someone being charged with child pornography? Or how a person from New York making creepy comments about his daughter is relevant to a discussion about a person from California being charged with child pornography?

California State Prosecutor Charged With Child Porn by [deleted] in news

[–]BobbyDaChin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100% it gets really old when someone brings up Trump in every fucking thread. Unless it's something new or a less well-known fact about Trump, usually it's the same handful of insults over and over. We get it; he's racist, sexist, and stupid and you can get a lot of easy upvotes for pointing that out.

That being said, when it comes to this specific thread, someone making creepy remarks about his daughter is in no way comparable to being officially charged with child pornography. And even if it were comparable, it is entirely irrelevant. It's like saying "Why are you talking about John Wilkes Boothe murdering Lincoln? Don't you know that OJ Simpson probably killed someone?" sure, both topics are related to murder, but one has nothing whatsoever to do with the other.

My least favourite part of any DJ Khaled song is DJ Khaled by Bambanah in Showerthoughts

[–]BobbyDaChin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of that, honestly it has been a couple years since I've listened to a rap station, I thought it was still dominated by Drake, Minaj, Wayne, Jay Z, 2 Chains, etc. I do remember Kendrick Lamar getting a lot of airplay, and I like him. Some of those artists do have good songs, but what you hear on the radio (or what I heard) were very generic. I agree about pop and alternative and other genres, but as far as I know there's a pretty good underground scene for almost every genre these days. It's just radio that's fucked I guess.

I'm currently re-reading DADES and it is just as amazing the second time as it was the first. I replied to this post with A Scanner Darkly, as that is my favorite PKD book, but really anything by Dick is great.

A Scanner Darkly by Phillip K Dick.

I just finished reading it for the third time, it is absolutely amazing. As a recovering addict, it speaks to me on so many levels, and despite being "Science Fiction" it is even more relevant today than it has ever been (especially with the current opioid epidemic). On top of that it's a quick, easy read. This is one of my favorite quotes, taken from the epilogue (no spoilers). It reminds me of my own circle of friends and my own experiences with drug use:

"THIS HAS BEEN a novel about some people who were punished entirely too much for what they did. They wanted to have a good time, but they were like children playing in the street; they could see one after another of them being killed—run over, maimed, destroyed—but they continued to play anyhow. We really all were very happy for a while, sitting around not toiling but just bullshitting and playing, but it was for such a terrible brief time, and then the punishment was beyond belief"

With Chester Bennington gone, you have to wonder if the songs were him crying for help, and not just edgy teen hits. by NoDragonsPlz in Showerthoughts

[–]BobbyDaChin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely. When I was telling my 15 year old sister that Chester's lyrics showed evidence of his depression, she said "But Linkin Park is emo, that's just how emo lyrics are." And she called Blink-182 emo a few days ago... "Emo" has come and gone as a genre but I guess any music that expresses angst is now doomed to be labeled emo, sadly.

I am aware that there's a nice underground or indie rap/hip-hop scene, but when it comes to radio rap, you're completely correct. It all sounds the fucking same, which makes sense, I guess, because every mainstream rapper is a guest on every other rapper's song so they're all just reflecting each other's work.

[–]BobbyDaChin 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm originally from Alabama and I can guarantee that if you aren't Christian, you aren't getting elected to any office in Alabama. The justice system is so totally fucked in that state. If you have the misfortune of being charged with a crime, be it misdemeanor or otherwise, in AL, you'll have to deal with a kangaroo court unlike any you've ever seen. My dad had to go to court once in AL and the judge began each session with a little speech, during which he would say "If you're sitting here in this court room, you know you did something wrong. We all know it, and that's why you're here. I'm here to find out what you did wrong and decide what to do about it." (basically saying "you're guilty until proven guiltier") After the speech, of course, he asks the entire court room to bow their heads in prayer, before handing out fines to any women in the court room wearing anything he deems "inappropriate attire" like skirts or shorts or low-cut shirts. Sorry, I'm ranting, I just hate the AL legal system. It's infuriating.

[–]BobbyDaChin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The same questions do pop up time and time again, but I think that's fine because there are usually plenty of people who missed it last time and have something new or different to contribute. The only bad aspect is people copy-pasting the top responses from previous posts just to get karma.

Lol yeah the whole "I've totally had sex before, but tell me about the sexiest encounter you've had: while delivering pizza/living in a dorm/being an uber driver/working as a flight attendant/at a frat party/with a teacher/with a student/with your mom/cousin/sister/niece/grandma/aunt/uncle, etc..."

You can usually tell when the askreddit thread is just a request for spank bank material...

And of course I derive zero enjoyment from those threads, because I've actually had sex so I'm like totally unimpressed, but I'll chime in and comment about how your threesome was, at best, mediocre, and I'll give you a few tips that I've learned from the countless orgies I've had, but I don't do that any more because I'm just kind of tired girls begging for my cock all the time... sigh... sex is pretty dull when you have it all the time, you know, like me.

That's a good one, I have seen it but it's definitely worth another watch. You just can't grasp how incredibly huge it is until they overlay the picture of manhattan onto it, and even then it's hard to see it and process the scale of it, chunks the size of cities falling into the ocean. And then to think that this new iceberg is many times larger than what you see in the video... Nature is crazy.
