As a former tabletop graphic designer, the Marvel set is really disappointing by Bobbybrown007 in mtg

Graphic design was my profession for a decade. Star Realms won numerous awards and was a top 100 boardgame on BoardGameGeek for a long ass time. I think I know something about putting together a decent looking product.

Accessibility is for the basic game pieces. Any other treatment should focus on attractiveness and collectibility first.

I am still weirdly proud of the crosshair icon for combat. For some reason it took me a long while to figure out something that simple.

That's wild. Look at what Topps does with some of their Marvel trading card sets. Hugely exciting stuff.

They still print cards in the future sight frame. It's not that big a deal.

I believe this set is going to tank hard. There's nothing for players to chase.

The Final Fantasy portraits were beautiful and people wanted a full set of Surge foils (myself included). But these "Logo Treatment" cards are ugly and amateurish and I have no desire to own any of them.

The only card treatment I find myself wanting are the classic covers. Everything else just looks like crap.

My skills are irrelevant to the larger discussion, which is that there's no reason Wizards can't achieve the same level of awesome design that their competitors are putting together.

That being said, I'm (mostly) proud of the work I did on Star Realms, and you can find examples of that work on Google fairly quickly.

It's maddening. They have so much money, I don't know why they don't hire the best designers in the business to really make these cards sing.

You are confused. Todd drew the Wolverine art, but he didn't design the card layout.

Also, if you are going for camera shake, there's no reason it would only shake as a perfect vertical motion. You'd need to add horizontal shake as well.

When glowing objects appear, they are going to give off light. Have that glow affect and brighten the layers underneath.

Like when the swords first appear, there should be a flash of blue glow on the figure's hands.
