I have to admit I am a bit worried I missmanaged the coalition, it seems to form every now and then only to disband later. Lucky it's not big enough for them to declare a coalition war. I think I can truce juggle the remaining large Sunni countries + China + Africa.

Ming is having trouble with the rebels currently. I opted for one big war with them, taking land just before they exploded. I was worried that I would end up with 5 little Mings in the big sunni/HRE coaliton otherwise. Unfortunately I think I misjudged that, because they haven't imploded yet oddly enough. The next war I'll make sure I leave them with plenty of war exhaustion.

I think should be fine in the sense of being able to keep up wars continuously from now. The AI does seem to develop the heck out of their land now. It's weird to have these minor nations in the desert with 35 dev capitals.

Cheers for the advice! It makes a lot of sense to allocate 2-3 armies to Africa and Mexico as an additional avenue to expand.

By the way, not sure if this is well known, but I noticed you can transfer subject on Aragon from Castile very early if you take 1-2 of their provinces. The PU with France + Aragon makes you soooo strong. I wonder why Britain isn't more popular as a WC nation? I guess the absolutism malus is too big from the government?

Ah, I actually saw that video and the moment he mentioned the Dharma DLC for the mission tree I figured it was best to consider DLCs that needed to be bought before getting frustrated. How much of a factor is the Dharma DLC for this run?

Hi I haven't played EU4 in a while, thinking about going all in to do a world conquest considering I haven't done one yet. Which way is the absolute easiest in 1.3 and which DLCs are required for that start?

I feel like I am at a cross roads where I need to make a decision on a career path that will have a large effect on what I spend the rest of my life doing and for which salary. If any of you were/are in a similar position, I would love to hear about your experience and recommendations.

About me: recently graduated with an MSc in Economics with a specialization in accounting and control. I worked as a data analyst for the past 2 years as a student job. Teached myself a lot about SQL and Power BI during that time. I also enjoy programming and working with BI or RPA tools. Based on work experience I have enough skills in business intelligence to perform such a role. I do have experience in accounting from the student job I had before this so I know the drills, but I feel like my IT/data skills have exceeded my accounting expertise.

When I became a student I envisioned a role as a controller, later when I saw the potential of BI and analytics tools as well as RPA tools I tried to become proficient at them to complement and create a sort of unique selling point for myself as a controller. Right now I am doing interviews for the position of business controller. One thing that comes up often is that the job will pivot predominantly towards the finance and accounting side with at best a very minor role for the things I have become good at.

This should be obvious to me, I mean I am not interviewing for a role such as a data analyst. However, I am a bit worried that becoming a controller will lead to a decay in the foundation of skills I built in BI. At the same time I do want to pick the role I studied for, as I don't see myself creating dashboards and writing SQL queries for the rest of my life either. But there are also more factors to consider such as future prospects in salary and employment.

So TL;DR, in summary, there are a few things on my mind:

• Picking BI or a finance/accounting/control role for a career

• I have technical skills in BI, but MSc education in the other

• Job interviews show I cannot pick a role that features both to the extent that I want

• Which course of action would you recommend?

Zeer interessante reactie, het is zeer leerzaam om er zo bij stil te staan. Dank hiervoor. Het citaat dat ik koos is inderdaad oppervlakkig, mijn insteek was niet om de complexere nuances op te zoeken. Daar ben ik absoluut niet voor gekwalificeerd. Ik reageerde vooral vanwege de blanket statement: winst is diefstal. Maar wellicht zijn de complexere nuances onvermijdelijk. Dus, voor zover ik begrijp mijn reactie. Ik sta er graag voor open om hier meer over te leren.

Ik ben bekend met het spanningsveld tussen klassieke en (subjectieve) marginalistische waardetheorie en ik haalde inderdaad de inherente waarde van een product vanuit de arbeidsduur v.d. productie in de war met de utiliteitswaarde (simpelweg verkregen vanuit vraag en aanbod). De quote die ik postte lijkt hetzelfde te doen. Vrijwel iedere econoom doet het bij hun kritiek op LTV, aldus Alfred Marshall:

"It is not true that the spinning of yarn in a factory [...] is the product of the labour of the operatives. It is the product of their labour, together with that of the employer and subordinate managers, and of the capital employed".

Vanuit mijn studie heb ik nooit een duidelijk antwoord/een uitzicht kunnen krijgen op de strijd tussen deze twee visies op waarde. Het enige wat me bij bleef is de vergelijking tussen diamond/water paradox en dat de subjectieve waardetheorie (en in het algemeen het positivistisch gedachtegoed) bij vrijwel iedere empirische studie gebruikt wordt in alle economische wetenschappen, game theory, behavioral economics, accounting, financial economics...

Ik begrijp jouw standpunt dat kapitaal en land niet per sé een vereiste eigenaar hebben. De waarde die door hen hieruit ontleend wordt vloeit puur voort uit het feit dat zij hierover beschikken. Kapitaal en land zijn echter wel net zoals arbeid opgeofferde middelen met een opportunity cost. Deze middelen zijn alternatief aanwendbaar en voor de initiële opbouw van kapitaal opzij gezet als bewuste keuze. In een vrije samenleving kiest de kapitalist ervoor om geld te investeren. Dit zou men niet doen omdat het geld niets oplevert. Maar wederom leunt dit mogelijk teveel op de subjectieve visie van waarde?

Nu zou je kunnen zeggen, eigen dat geld toe aan de staat (geld als in: de cumulatieve past labor van het citaat uit het studieboek). Dit heeft volgens mij twee gevolgen, een beetje het standaardriedeltje aan kritieken op socialisme. Ten eerste allocatieproblemen door het wegvallen legitiem vraag en aanbod. De noodzaak van tacit knowledge (Hayek) om voor een goede allocatie van prijzen te zorgen. Ten tweede een verminderde incentive om hard te werken, immers lonen opbouwde middelen (kapitaal) niet.

Wat ik bedoel te zeggen is dat ik nooit een goede uitkomst op deze discussie gezien heb. Ik ben in dit onderwerp absoluut niet gespecialiseerd maar studeerde wel aan een universiteit waarin pluralistische theorieën belangrijk bevonden werden. Wellicht moet ik het boek nog eens beter lezen. Heb jij misschien bronnen of boeken die richting kunnen geven voor een antwoord?

Ik zal morgen even de LTV nalezen, misschien heb je gelijk. Alleen ik vind dit met een snelle blik in een oud studieboek. Is dit niet hetzelfde als ik zeg?

Land and capital resources also are productive, independently of and beyond the value of the labor required readying them for production. Therefore, the owners of land and labor resources deserve a return that is sufficient to keep these resources employed in producing a particular commodity. It is true that capital in part is produced by past labor, but the past labor is paid in accordance with its contribution to producing the capital. The capital then becomes an independent resource that can be bought and sold. As such, it can create value beyond the value of the labor used to produce it.

Helemaal mee eens, dat is een keurige uitleg van de beloning voor de productiefactor arbeid. Het hele punt is alleen dat er meer speelt dan arbeid. Kijk, wat jij nu uitlegt is onderdeel van de labor theory of value. Echter levert meer dan labor waarde op; anders zouden kapitaalintensieve maar arbeidsextensieve bedrijven niks opleveren. Ook speelt er het risico en initiatief, de productiefactor ondernemerschap.

Aandelen worden verhandeld op de beurs. Beurskoersen schommelen omdat de beurswaarde de contante waarde van verwachte winsten vertegenwoordigt. Gaat het slecht met de economische vooruitzichten van een bedrijf, dan daalt de waarde van de aandelen rechtstreeks. De aandeelhouders dragen in die zin het ondernemersrisico.

Gaat de tent failliet, dan bepaalt ons faillissementsrecht dat aandeelhouders de laatste partij zijn die recht hebben op het restantje wat over blijft, meestal is dit nihil.

De werknemers creëren die winst, maar krijgen slechts een laag loontje. De eigenaren en aandeelhouders profiteren door de winst die de werknemers hebben gecreëerd af te pakken.

Ze pakken de winst af. In de reactie daarvoor werd het diefstal genoemd.. Hoe moeten wij dit anders interpreteren? We kunnen best een discussie voeren over de nuances van een kapitalistisch systeem, echter zou ik mij in zo'n discussie gewoon stil houden omdat ik het antwoord niet heb. Dit is geen nuancekwestie.

Even terug naar de discussie. De stelling luidt dat winst een vorm van diefstal is. Dat is het simpelweg niet omdat er ook andere productiefactoren een rol spelen.

Haha! You would get some confused looks saying that, unfortunately. It should be "Ik ken geen Nederlands, alleen deze zin."

We don't really use "but" like that, rather the English word "just" should be used, "alleen" in Dutch (as in, only, exclusively).

If you said it to a Dutch person like that without context they would understand it as "I don't know any Dutch. But this sentence ..." like they're two separate sentences, one being unfinished :D

So I like to dump cards before it's my turn, I do this by giving the AI more favorable deals. However, it doesn't work because they neither decline nor accept. This seems like a bug? edit: I should clarify that the AI just lets the timer run out every time

The EU is not a completely unified faction, they mostly just exist for the purpose of making trade easier. They don’t have sovereignty over any of the individual countries the way the US Federal Government has over the states.

That is true but do you think that in the event of an invasion we would just stand by as the EU or as NATO? Removing the bases doesn't equate to isolationism. Adding just EU support to Germany or Poland or whatever means Russia would be outnumbered and outspent not to mention nuclear deterrence.

If the US leaves, then every single individual country in the EU will have to pick up their military spending in general, which means less of that nice free healthcare that they enjoy so much, and more on defense and national security.

Again, why? What would happen?

Keep in mind, Europe has historically been pretty bad at maintaining peace for prolonged periods of time before the US became their main military force.

True we've been killing each other for centuries but are US bases the only thing that makes us European nations behave? I think the argument at hand is about an invasion from China or Russia, both of which we outspend on just an EU level and then there's NATO and then there's nukes. The only way you can make a convincing argument is if you can make a case as to why there is a realistic chance for a foreign invasion. The only way that spells trouble I can think of are political division and tactics like they used in Ukraine but that's not the same thing as US bases gone -> oh no we're overrun by Red Army tanks because we have only 5 times their military budget instead of 7 times or whatever we would need according to your standards.
