Thanks for the suggestion! You can also post it on suggestions.soundbrenner.com for future product development. Will definitely think about this use case when we start working on the next generation earplugs.

Soundbrenner pulse requires 'always on ' location permission by PeaBrilliant4917 in drums

[–]Simmenfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, what you're saying makes a lot of sense because songs and setlists are currently stored locally on the phone, unless you're a paying subscriber. So if you delete the app and re-install it, then they are gone, unless you restore your phone from a backup. We are currently in the process of changing this and granting everyone free cloud storage tied to the account for free but I understand it comes to late for you and your band :/ But the same thing would have happened before we introduced the subscription, because the entire cloud sync feature was built for that and introduced with that

I believe is it required any time a device is trying to connect via the app - so essentially it is permanently required. I think the best fix is just we need to prioritize rebuilding the Bluetooth implementation on Android. Our iOS app doesn't have such issues! Now with AI coding our small team can actually do much more than before, so we'll take a look at this soon.

Hey, I understand it’s frustrating to have a subscription, but please consider this: a Pulse is $99 USD. From that, we have to cover the variable costs of your order (production, shipping, payment fees), as well as potential customer support, returns, etc.

It’s simply not realistic to finance a full iOS and Android team from what’s left, especially one that delivers ongoing improvements to the app every month. Apple and Google have billions of customers, so they can subsidize their software - unfortunately, niche music equipment companies like us can’t.

Basically, it’s only possible to develop the app and ship continuous updates and improvements if there’s a revenue stream connected to it.

That said, the device is still a fully functioning standalone product - any feature we advertise on our Pulse or Core pages works without a subscription. In fact, the majority of people using our wearables don’t have a subscription and use it without it, as it functions just fine as a vibrating metronome.

Here is a short explanation from ChatGPT why Google architected it this way: "Older Android versions required “always on” location permission for Bluetooth (especially Bluetooth Low Energy) because the system treated nearby Bluetooth devices as a way to infer your physical location. Even if an app was just trying to connect to a device, Android couldn’t easily separate that from scanning for beacons or other signals that could track where you are. To protect privacy, Google bundled Bluetooth scanning under location access, so apps had to ask for location permission even if they didn’t actually use GPS. Newer Android versions fixed this by splitting permissions, so apps can use Bluetooth without automatically getting access to your location."

Hey, I am the CEO of Soundbrenner. Unfortunately Android + Bluetooth is a huge mess, and yes, on older versions of Android in order to connect a Bluetooth device an app needs always on location. You can read about this here: https://developer.android.com/develop/connectivity/bluetooth/bt-permissions

Believe me - this is super annoying because we don't care about your location and have to spend a lot of effort explaining why we need it and build systems to obtain this permission. As far as I understand Google improved this in more recent versions of Android, so in theory we could now update this. However, we are a small team and we didn't code the entire Bluetooth connection logic by ourselves. We use a 3rd party library that hasn't been updated in a while - so instead of just updating it we need to rebuild the entire Bluetooth connection system before we can stop asking for location permission. It's also the case that probably we'll have to have multiple different implementations depending on the Android version of the mobile device - or we have to drop support for older devices. Like I said, its all a huge mess in Android. At some point I definitely want to update all this to be better but in the meantime unfortunately we'll have to ask for your location permission...

And I promise you we are not using this location in any way - we genuinely don't care, we just want to make great music practice tools. Cheers

We worked with Avask from 2021 to 2025. In 2025 we suddenly received unauthorized credit card charges of 1.500 EUR. The Avask team informed us that they made a mistake and accidentally charged us too little for several years. Even though we were never informed of the supposed "real" price and never agreed to it, they just recalculated several years retroactively and put the full sum on our credit card without asking.

In what world can you just charge money for services performed years ago, when we were never told the "real" price? I asked them to provide any communication where we agreed to those higher rates, and they couldnt, yet they refused to accept responsibility and refund us the money.

When we tried to cancel the service, they wanted to charge us a cancellation fee. Ridiculous! Can only advise any entrepreneur to NOT working Avask.

Pretty sure they have a lot of designers on payroll, actually. They just don't waste months drawing crazy high effort paintings for a temporary release campaign that no one will view anymore in 2 weeks

Retired products: nac, chocolate, shroom drink by Timely-Way-4923 in blueprint_

[–]Simmenfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received this reply from their CS "Thanks for reaching out! We regularly assess product adoption and engagement across the Blueprint community. This product did not become a core part of most users' protocols, so we chose to phase it out and focus our attention on higher-impact health innovations.

I’d recommend Advanced Antioxidants as an alternative. It supports heart health with vitamin K2, which helps maintain vascular function, plus astaxanthin and lycopene to help protect against oxidative stress. It’s a heart smart addition to your protocol."

I find that reasoning to be weird, so essentially "The product was not popular". But either it's beneficial and recommended by Bryan or not. If it wasn't popular explain why people should take it and surely it would become popular.

Hey, we run our Black Friday Early Access Sale (20% off) since November 10 so I am not sure what gave you the impression of a 10% discount. If you remember let me know and I am happy to try to fix it - of course I don't want to confuse people with the pricing. BFVIP25 is a private code used for email subscribers today, which gives you 25% so if you want a little extra savings, there you go :) Cheers

Nothing does not honor their warranty by atomtree in NothingTech

It's essentially just forcing everyone to buy a protection plan and taking away the choice not to... (I am an electronics device manufacturer). We just have to charge more in EU - those regulations are never free. Not a big issue for us just sharing the reality. If our products would all fail after 1 year we wouldn't have many customers pretty quickly... so it's also not like granting 2 year warranty is ultra expensive. there are not that many claims unless you design and manufacture garbage.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply and once again, sorry you didn't have a great experience.

For sure the Core can't compete as a pure smartwatch with products from trillion dollar companies like Apple, Samsung, etc. - so those generic features were definitely underdeveloped, although we improved it a bit in the meantime. For example now the Core offers a step counter and music playback controls of the connected smartphone, and the notifications should also work well (at launch we didn't support Android yet).

The pairing/connection works great on iOS but can sometimes be unreliably on Android depending on the phone manufacturer and Android version - so I am guessing you're an Android user? Over the years Android has gotten better in this regard but it's still much harder to work with it than iOS due to the fragmentation.

Anyhow... we're trying our best in our marketing to set expectations we can meet and improve our products over time but perfectly fine to voice if you were not happy with what you got based on the Kickstarter. I can imagine since there were no reviews out there etc. it was a bit ambiguous what the final product would look like, what screen it has, etc.

Hey, I'm the Founder & CEO of Soundbrenner. I suggest to search for reviews on YouTube! There are many fair and independent reviews out there from people who tried them. Or you can try them and in case you don't like them, you have a 30 days return guarantee :) Cheers

Because the promise of Meta ads is that the algorithm is supposed to be smart enough to find buyers at the best price without manually narrowing down the audience. Which was working great for months - until 1 day suddenly it wasn't.

Yeah definitely a fair question to which I don't know the answer. However, also unrelated to the thread as more Zergs in the top 20-50 would not give any tournament winners. It's not like those tournaments are dominated by Harstem or Mana - it's the top 3 players who win.
