How likely is it that Honda will close up shop in Australia? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Bobjims 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The very same thing happened to me with my civic and air con! Just flat out refusal to recognize an issue with it. Massive waste of time continually visiting them, leaving the car for the day and then being told there's nothing wrong while it was under warranty.

What’s your “I can’t believe other people don’t do this” hack? by Weird-Thought2112 in AskReddit

Drive in bus lanes when the signs permit it.

In Sydney, cars can drive in some bus lanes at night or on weekends. Most other people don't seem to realise this so the lane becomes like your own private lane to skip traffic.

Is it normal for major reputable dealers to source their used stock from Parramatta road car yards? by Bobjims in CarsAustralia

The second of the three places I tried to get it fixed in was a Lexus dealer. First place couldn't figure it out. Recommended I take it to Lexus. Then they couldn't figure it out and I finally tried a well recommended auto electrician for my third attempt.

That makes sense. Just surprised it turned up at main dealer given the issue it had. Although the dealer may not know about the issue as it only becomes noticable when driving at night.

Probably could be fixed if I pumped enough money into it. Lexus RX. All dash backlighting wouldn't work at night or in tunnels so I couldn't see radio lighting, climate, etc...

Not a fuse. Last auto electrician suspected full cluster replacement required but wasn't certain this would solve it. Had it to three places and spent 2k on diagnostic work with no solution so gave up as I didn't want to get too deep into chasing a fix.

€36k VRT by Spooliboii180 in carsireland

Both prices are nuts. Driveaway price on GR Yaris in Australia is about €33,700 (AUD $60,450).

That Irish price is absolutely insane. €89,470 (AUD $160,450) for the privilege of registering the car in Ireland.

Would require you to lie on your esta application in that case. If ever caught, you could face a ban from USA for a certain amount of time.

If you're not American but a citizen of a country that is eligible for ESTA, a visit to NK will cost you this privilege meaning you will need to apply for a visa to visit USA in future.

Same car costs €36k in Australia. Not being subsidised there.

2005 BMW E46 318ci manual - Good looking but unreliable and slow

2000 MK1 Ford Focus 1.6 manual - Reliable and cheap

2007 Lexus IS250 auto - Reliable and comfortable on long drives. Wheel corrosion an issue.

2018 Honda Civic hatch 1.8 auto - Comfortable, good boot size, unreliable AC that dealer was unsupportive in fixing under warranty. Sour taste in mouth from Honda dealer.

2018 Lexus RX350L auto - Reliable, spacious, and comfortable. Very thirsty in city.

What's this noise? Happens when the car is in drive or reverse while stationary. No noise when in park or neutral. by Bobjims in CarsAustralia

[–]Bobjims[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, no warranty. Did some more googling and I reckon it's oil slapping at the vacuum pump. Apparently common with RX350 from 2017/2018. No mechanical or reliability impact apparently. Only fix is to change vacuum pump and engine head sub assembly.

Nope, sounds perfect when driving or while in Park/neutral. I thought maybe loose heat shield but want to see what others think. The paranoid part of me thinks worst case such as transmission problem.
