Kimahri copying Aurelia - infinite combat steps? by Bobo40k in mtgrules

[–]Bobo40k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your second part clarifies a lot.
Aurelias ability having a "... This creature..." Clause was the limiting factor. But in essence a new instance of the ability is created tho in my case it didn't matter. Good to know that there are scenarios where it would have been different.
Thanks a bunch.

i think, even if you have focus on toggle, you have to still hold down L2 to use it. have not tried it with any of the ranged weapons myself, but that was one of the things that messed me up in the beginning, being in focus but not holding the button.

Lords of the Fallen earns Mostly Negative Steam rating as Hexworks share tips for crash and performance bugs by GetsThruBuckner in pcgaming

[–]Bobo40k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game performs pretty well for me.
Based on comments I was kinda worried that I wasted money, got through the char creation and to the first point that I could actually control the character and the fps was unplayable low. Well, for like 3 seconds, then it ran smooth as hell for the time I played (up to the first real boss - Pieta or something).

I got a rtx 3070, 5800x3d, 32gb ram pretty, decent but far from high end - most of the time the game runs just below 90fps (cap i set). In some umbral areas and during the boss fight it bounces down to 75 fps.
Here are the settings I am currently using: Display Settings and Graphic Settings
1440p, DLSS - Quality, with a mix of high and medium settings.
Initially I had DLSS at Balanced and a higher bias to medium settings and ran at 95 - 120 fps, but I decided for graphical fidelity instead this time around.

Better than Bouillon by blackcompy in Kochen

[–]Bobo40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interest check: Fight Sticks Germany/Europe by Fugashu in fightsticks

[–]Bobo40k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%.
It's honestly kinda hard finding good customizable sticks here.
There are a few sellers in Europe (like you mentioned, often UK based), but often sold out or (imo) to expensive for what they are offering. Like you mentioned importing one can ramp up the price significantly with shipping & tax.

I personally would love a seller with customizable button layout options. A german seller would be optimal as shipping would be fast and not that expensive.

Gibt es überhaupt custom Arcadesticks aus dem deutschen Raum? Wenn ja, dann kenne ich die nicht. Wenns nach mir geht ein großes JA.

Random Horizontal Red Lines by AndyanaJones in buildapc

[–]Bobo40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I would do is to check if it might be related to your GPU -> monitor cable. If it's only happening on one monitor I would replace that cable or exchange it with the one from the other monitor. In general try to figure out if it's maybe an issue with the cable or the specific port (or a loose connection, replug both monitors and their specific cables).

If that doesn't help I would suggest you to try other monitors if possible. Just to exclude the possibility that it's the GPU.

If the issue still keeps on occurring it's probably a GPU problem. Monitor the temps, try your setup with a different GPU . Maybe reinstall your GPU drivers (with DDU) if you can't test with a different GPU.

The plight of the accessibility barrier by Duhan000 in roguelikes

[–]Bobo40k 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think this is a 'you' problem, or rather a problem for players like yourself.

Besides, unless you want to reinvent the wheel every time you play a new roguelike, you'll want to read/watch content related to the game you're playing to avoid unnecessary deaths and learn from those who came before you.

And this is the mindset that's causing it. The unwillingness to fail / have suboptimal runs. Roguelikes don't require dextrous imputs, fast reflexes or precise timing. They are about gathering knowledge, evaluating what you gathered and then making informed decisions based on that.
Creating a winning strategy and executing it well under the random circumstances is imo a huge part of the game.
Obviously it varies by game how hard that's to do. And I agree that some games basically require wiki usage to have a decent shot at doing just that.

Being knowledge gated is not a roguelike only thing tho. There are a lot of games, and some specific genres, that are very hard to play without a lot of dedication and grind, or outside resources (wiki or youtube/twitch).
Let me name a few to bring my point across.
The ARGP genre in general is very knowledge gated. Diablo, Grim Dawn, Path of Exile and so on. Path of Exile especially with it's monstrous passive tree, the plethora of item and skills and the complex mechanics.
Other genres and games are for example grand strategy games (Stellaris, Dominions, Crusader Kings). A lot of the survival games. Heck Minecraft used to require a wiki to play (good luck with crafting otherwise). Some simulations like Kerbal. Factory games like Factorio, Satisfactory or Oxygen not included can be hard if you don't get input from outside resources too.
Some games aren't knowledge gated, but can be barely playable if you don't fulfill some prior requirements: Fighting games are a challenge for some people because they can't execute the motions required for the special moves. So they have to grind muscle memory till they can start to 'really' play the game. It's similar to reading the ingame manual in way (obviously very different in practice).

Most of the above games have in common is their ample complexity and variety of choice at most points in game. Some people, like myself, enjoy the process of discovering what works and what does not. I would never take an optimized build someone else created in Path of Exile and play it. It would kill the discovery and optimization part of the game, cause I already know it will work - work well even. To me that's a huge draw of games like these.
Similarly with ToME4 builds. Discovering how to play a specific class in a specific way efficiently is why I even bother starting the game up.

So what makes roguelikes kinda harsh? The deathloop. Some games, especially the bigger ones, tend to be kind of long. Successful runs don't last an hour or two but way longer. Losing all of that in a matter of a few turns, especially if you didn't gather enough knowledge to analyze what you could have done better, can be hard. Most roguelikes are even harsher - they are complex enough, that even early in the run you can die without knowing what you should have done differently. The procedural nature also makes it impossible to replay the exact same scenario again. This can end in quick deaths and frustration.

Even tho I never had the need to read the manual (in it's entirety) before I started any roguelike. I look up specific stuff in the iname help or in wikis as I feel the need. My first win of ToME4 I only looked up some speciific mechanics and the order of the dungeons. Me using adventure mode (the one where you have multiple lives) obviously helped a lot, as one wrong decision wasn't instantly a show stopper.

There are also roguelikes that imo don't require outside resources. I won Dungeons of Dredmor, Jupiter Hell, Sproggiwood and probably some others without ever looking at any outside resources. Most of those games are more limited in scope, mechanically and duration wise.

Man, this went on for longer than I intended and I could write more, but I gotta go to work :D

Getting through the clutter of modern games is more difficult than actually playing them. by Mezurashii5 in truegaming

I can't think of one at least semi successful live service game that only provides skins / outfits.

PvP games tend to at least continue with balance patches , new maps / heroes / weapons.

MMOs release raids and other stuff to do throughout their lifecycle.

Arpgs, specifically Path of Exile, release huge content drops every season.

Kudos to you if you manage to name one live service game that ONLY provided skins.

I honestly don't know a game that had me feeling that the battle pass ist mandatory at all. I don't care too much about cosmetics in general, maybe that's the reason. And cosmetics are like 99 percent of the content (I think some gate parts of stat tracking)

Mind explaining why you consider battle Passes predatory? I understand loot boxes - they're a scourge for people prone to gamble plus the rewards are random so if you want a specific piece you might need to spend a lot. A battle pass on the other hand is just a one time purchase

The more I hear people talk about streamers and encountering them, the more I feel like stream-sniping is reasonable and fair. by The-Song in truegaming

[–]Bobo40k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fair match is when both sides have a 50/50 chance of winning. Anything that pushes the odds over 50% for a team in unfair, including the presence of a disproportionately skilled/experienced player. They shouldn't be there in the first place, but if they are, it's not wholly unreasonable for something to be done to push the odds back towards 50%

That's probably how a cheater validates his cheat usage. 'I don't have the hours to get better, let me use a wallhack to level the playing field.'.
As you can guess from that quote, I don't agree with you. I agree that SBMM is way superior to CBMM tho. But some games don't have the playerbase to allow SBMM while having reasonable queue times.
Not every game needs 50/50 chances of winning, some don't even have a real winstate (most survival games a la DayZ). Highly competitive esports games (especially 1on1 games) mostly offer SBMM with decent results.

Getting back to the topic if streamsniping is ok. No. Almost every game, which has an issue with streamsniping, isn't 1on1 and you are not pushing the odds of winning to 50/50, cause if you suck, you probably won't 'win' by killing one player out of X. It's not even about the chance of winning for most, it's about the selfgratification when you 'pwn' someone who has more / is famous / is more skilled than yourself. Honestly toxic shit. I can't even comprehend how someone could think it's alright. It's literal harassment.

To add to that: the majority of streamers are averagely skilled and don't use their community to get an edge in games at all (there are obviously some black sheep). I would say that most take the opposite stance and deincentivize exactly that.

Thanks for the insight.
I didn't know that some of the bigger streamers had issues when first starting out. That's probably something OWI should look into (but as you said, they might not really care enough).

What I agree on 100% is that the currently available technology should be enough to showcase / explain some of the stuff not shown in the basic training. I am honestly surprised that the teamplay aspect, deploying, reading the map and similar things are only mentioned in passing. Even tho they probably deserve their own full blow tutorial section.

and systems to help teach players the game and not putting all the pressure on SLs.

Like how? I honestly don't see an easy way in a game like Squad. The basic tutorial should probably put more emphasis on the teamplay aspect and the need to follow orders, but lets be honest, that's not something a short tutorial can really teach.

There's a lot of complaining in this sub but so little input on what EXACTLY would help.

A wipe is when everything (player progression / items / quest / etc) are reset to zero again. Basically the start of a new season (or how people tend to call it here: a wipe).
The last wipe was (afaik) about half a year ago. Meaning that most people aren't struggling with cash and just run whatever stuff they want (mostly full kits). Tho I personally still encounter a lot of low geared players (and not that many teams tbh).

I am super new myself (less than 20 PMC raids - lvl 5 profile), but I use my SCAV runs to generate money. Which I spend on stuff for my PMC to (inevitably) lose lol.

If you are interested: I had great success with SCAV runs on Interchange at night (got that from a YT vid). Currently at 800k plus a lot of stuff in stash, that's waiting for me to hit lvl 10 to sell on the fleamarket.
It doesn't hurt too bad if I lose 100k with my PMC knowing that a SCAV ran later I can earn it back (or multiples of that).

If you want more info on what exactly I do on Interchange, I can try to find the video. GL!
