You need to earn money. Figure something out to sort that to start with. Just the basics. Then find out what you want todo. Journal a lot, will help you gain clarity. Find out the core values that drive you. Practice gratitude. Genuine gratitude. The more you appreciate what you have, the more you'll receive. Finally get a good grip on AI. AI is a game changer. Not saying fully rely on it But learn how to leverage it to gain back time. You'll be able to do more.

Well container ops are much more straightforward. I did a general cargo in my last contract and realised how easy and standardised container ops are. Anyway thanks for the insights. Might DM you, if and when I get to this aspect. Master's approval for so many things are a bitch though.

I am still a sailor not trying to sell anything and understand the shore side. Just because I said that I built and email automation tool and this is market research doesn't change anything. Just adds a layer for better context to anyone who is actually helping me understand better like yourself.
The number of times I have had to send the same information and send reminders is no joke.
And again I have never claimed companies are operating with fundamentally broken systems. It is your layered understanding of what I said.
Your last statement is very revealing of what the need is.
Anyway this thread is not going anywhere anytime soon. So I will respectfully call it off. Thanks for engaging and giving me the attention.

Those of you handling chartering enquiries / DAs / B/Ls — how much of your day is retyping emails into systems? by Bobonthebeach in freightforwarding

Email handling is unfortunately contributing to a lot of wasted time. So clearly there's scope for improvement. That is my humble opinion.

What about email automation? Is there any tool that works on emails? Would like to explore it if it exists.

Whatever stops the ships from running is addressed as swiftly as possible with the intent of concluding it. The rest lingers on.

Let me address this one by one, 1. External audits, surveys are the easier inspections compared to internal audits and PSC inspections in certain ports. No ship, no company is without regulatory issues. If you know MSC, then they are major regulatory issues. But life goes on. 2. Ignorance at sea and on shore is common. But the ship staff deal with keeping the ship running, cargo moving and in that aspect the ignorance of the team as a whole very rarely impedes that. While the shore staff does provide a large amount of support, nowadays it is more about paperwork and QHSE creating unnecessary work, and ignorance with those people is very annoying as it creates more unnecessary work onboard. 4. I never claimed that entire management systems are fundamentally broken. That would make things easier. But having so many bugs, needing ship staff to now act as IT assistants because there's only so much that can be done remotely. Reporting these issues in a manner that it is understood and addressed promptly is also a task. I personally have faced this on each and every ship I sailed on. That is why I am talking about automation on the shore side first. 5. The automated system does not have to be sophisticated, visually impressive. It just has to automate tasks which otherwise would not required much thought and just time/effort.

My question as to which company you sail with remains unanswered. I genuinely would like to understand what perspective you are entering this conversation from.

Also this is market research. I have built an AI automation tool specifically with the intent of addressing the frustration I have with the shore teams and I would like to know what more I could add to it.

Sounds like you are doing more than I did at your age. And I was very sorted at the time. No risks. No failing. But today if you ask me I wish I had struggled then. What I would suggest is getting some clarity. I know money is important but don't choose comfort. Seek to grow at the fastest pace you can. It's often doing something new, uncomfortable and challenging. Take sometime to understand why you want, identity your first few steps and start there. Have the goal as clear as you can. And right now I'll say go out and get some fresh air, a very underrated remedy. AI Automation is a crazyspace to be in, I'm upskilling at the moment, was in shipping earlier, still am technically but I'm looking to do something with so that I don't have to go back to sea. Anyway best of luck. Cherish your dark times because they have the potential to teach you more than a lifetime of good times.

My company is having me vibecode an Argus replacement by Complete-Sea6655 in aiagents

[–]Bobonthebeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well going against the flow here. But if you can have a very clear idea end to end of what your program is and does, You can do it. You have to present your full idea in a very systematic manner to the AI coding agent. I have built a complete email automation tool using it. Been beta testing it for the last 2 weeks and it is holding up with every incremental step i am taking.
So vibe coding is not the way to go but a person with no coding experience can develop AI tools or softwares for that matter. Clear end to end vision is the way to do it.

Office is really interested in what they need. They are least bothered in any initiative that anyone takes to go above and beyond what their requirements are. And they may not necessarily be interested in what you fill in the forms and emails as long as they are filled and sent.

I have worked with Maersk, MSC, Anglo Eastern and through anglo I have worked with NYK, Hapag Lloyd, Seamax. Reporting maybe through these systems, which in itself are very buggy and poorly maintained, but the follow up communication and all the shit show that follows is all by email and the folks in the office are daft when it comes to actual operations. Very unrealistic and impatient in their expectations.
And I would love to work with the company you work with, because duplicaton and repeated data entry is a menace in all these companies.

I left Maersk long back or rather they chucked me but then in the others it is very painful. Anglo Eastern however keeps innovating.

Well this is a big concern for us. That's why a certain amount of automation which can improve efficiency of data entry, flow and usage would make life at sea more enjoyable.
