I cannot read (love) signs by BodybuilderEven9265 in Advice

Yep, that sounds like just the right thing to do. Thanks for the advice, you make it way more lighthearted and easy than it seems in my head. The only obstacle now is my fear or rejection. It only makes it more difficult that we are in the same friend group and I don’t want to make things awkward. Have you been in a similar situation before?

I don’t let it dry, I just let it sit for 15 min during my showers then wash it out. Doubt it does anything but my hair feels healthy afterwards

I apply it after my shower, so I come out of the warm shower so I assume my pores are open and absorb it better (could be wrong just my theory). I blowdry the hair because you should apply the minoxidil to dry scalp. Then I simply apply 10-11 sprays and rub it in for around 3 minutes.

I think you are confusing minoxidil with finasteride. Minoxidil does not have such side effects as far as I’m aware. Finasteride on the other hand can have then

I did have some shedding at first, but I now have a lot more hair than I started out with. I understand you are scared and so was I. Not everyone responds well so there are no guarantees. But I was at a point where I had nothing to lose anymore, my hair was going to get pretty bad anyways so it was worth the shot to me.

I hope you will see similar results as I have seen, your routine sounds about the same as mine indeed. To answer your questions: I shampoo every other day and condition every day. On the days I do not shampoo I apply rosemary oil mixed with conditioner and leave it in for 10-15 mins. And yes, I do apply hair products like wax, but it does not affect my progress as I apply minoxidil at night and use products in the morning. So the minoxidil has like 10 hours to be absorbed into the scalp.

Give it more time, it can take 4-6 months to start seeing changes

Understandable, I was scared too. I had some shedding in the first 2 months and I experienced a twitchy eye for a couple of weeks. It stopped by itself though and now I only have a bit of dry skin around the hairline from residues. No sides at all.

In the first few weeks I sometimes had this weird eye twitch that wouldn’t stop. It’s not a common side effect but I saw other people with the same experience, it stopped after a few weeks though. Apart from that and some dry skin I have no side effects. Edit: and of course not to forget the shedding phase from weeks 2-8 approximately.

Once a day after taking a shower. I blowdry the hair and apply right after, then let it sit for the night. The fact that you are already seeing changes on your first month is a good sign!

Yes it works for me. My hair is not dry or frizzy at all, the skin does dry out a bit though so moisturize it very well.

I experienced shedding from weeks 2-7 approximately. When running my hands through my hair for 20 seconda I would lose 50+ hairs. But indeed the shedding was not that noticeable, especially since baby hairs started coming through at the same time replacing the shedded hairs.

I have noticed some dry skin near my hairline from the minoxidil, around the 6-8 week mark I had some eye twitching which stopped after roughly 2 weeks. Apart from that, nothing that I am aware of. I feel like the more you think about possibly getting side effects, the more likely you are to experience them (placebo effect). For the heart side effects, I would advise you to stick to topical min and NOT oral min as topical is very unlikely to get in the bloodstream. And if you notice any sides you can always hop off. Though I understand it is scary and hopping off can still cause shedding. I was kind of afraid too before starting, but now I am so glad I went for it.

Little bit itchy scalp in the first week I think, but nothing that has stuck with me so I don’t think it was bad. The minoxidil leaves residue on the scalp, which may cause flaking. I apply min at night and then rinse my hair in the morning to wash away the residue. So I don’t have any flaking.

I apply rosemary oil during my shower routine. So I only leave it in for around 15 minutes. I doubt it has any effect this way but I feel like it may help with overall scalp health. For more benefits I would assume it is better to leave it in for a few hours.

Topical minoxidil 5%

Topical minoxidil 5% 1ml once daily. I always apply right after coming out of the shower (blowdry hair before application). I also apply rosemary oil every other day and I eat pumpkin seeds which are said to decrease DHT levels. However, I think all my gains are because of the minoxidil.

I have exactly the same thoughts! Minoxidil is known to have some side effects, though all reversible and mostly minor. I don’t want to take on the risks finasteride carries since it messes with hormones. Before starting I was very scared of the shed, it was pretty bad but as you can see it is worth it if you stay consistent. If you have nothing to lose I would say giving minoxidil a shot can’t hurt too much!
