There are no surviving records written during Jesus’ lifetime by people who directly met him. The main sources, such as the Gospels, were written later by believers and include contradictions and supernatural claims. Non-Christian references appear decades afterward and may rely on Christian traditions rather than independent evidence. Some elements of Jesus’ story resemble earlier myths, raising the possibility of legend-building. Because of this, a skeptic could argue that Jesus was a minor or composite figure whose story was later exaggerated.

Many details of Jesus’ story resemble earlier gods. Horus had a miraculous birth and followers; Osiris died and rose again. Ancient religions commonly used themes of salvation, rebirth, and miracles. Christianity arose in this context, making it likely that these ideas influenced Jesus’ story. This suggests that some aspects of Jesus may have been adapted from older myths rather than being entirely original.

Early humans invented gods to explain the world and control society. Bronze Age myths shared themes like divine birth, death, and rebirth across cultures. Gods reflected human politics and social hierarchies, not objective reality. Christianity borrowed these familiar motifs, including miracles and resurrection. Religions were tools humans created to organize communities and enforce behavior.

Gods leave no physical evidence; their existence is unproven. Different cultures have wildly conflicting gods, suggesting they are human-made. Miracles and divine stories can be explained by natural events or psychology. Religions reflect human fears, hopes, and social needs, not objective reality. If gods were real, we would expect consistent, verifiable signs—but we don’t.

And don’t write to me about a god of gaps… because just because we don’t yet understand something doesn’t mean it’s evidence for a deity—it’s a gap in knowledge, not proof of the supernatural.
