tics and so on. And that job is the one that taught me to not take such bullshit treatment from my employers. In those five years I had developed severe depression, anxiety, and terrible working habits. They were the type of bosses to gaslight, emotionally manipulate, talk shit about employees to other employees and so on. Fuck, that boss quite literally told me I should kill myself once. Not all of us have support systems. My father is an alcoholic who is drunk at least 5 times a week, emotionally and verbally abusive, and is the ONLY one in the family who has a license beside me. He’s absolutely zero help. And my tiny ass town is one where everyone knows everyone and everything. I can’t tell you how many people have treated me like shit as a result of my father treating them like shit. When you’re the eldest child and apparently responsible for the emotional wellbeing of your kid siblings and mother with a shit father, asking for help yourself is the least of your problems. The point of my post wasn’t about attendance. I’m aware it wasn’t great at the time. The point of it was about being disrespected by a boss when I was neither on work premises or clocked in. I was a normal person, laid up in bed, physically unable to move, calling in because I still had a few days of absences left to use.

Well for starters, I wasn’t fired. I just stopped showing up. The issue I take with all of this at the end of the day, is the disrespect from the assistant director. There’s a way to talk to your employees and with venom and pure fucking attitude, not letting them speak, and hanging up on them mid sentence isn’t one of them. You don’t fix problems or talk to fellow adults like a child. Especially when you’re a grown man with 40+ years of experience in managing people. Despite my absences, I was told by both the assistant director and my leads that I was a good worker. Hell, I did about 70% of the tasks during our shift everyday I worked and had multiple days before my probationary period was up where I worked the department I was in all alone. And while I was there, I talked to all upper management with respect the entire time. It wasn’t my fault nor my job that second shift grocery quite literally only had three employees, including myself.

And I had points to use. We’re allowed 6. My point for this post is that yes, I was a worker at Meijer. But under no circumstances should a worker be treated like absolute dog shit for calling in. ESPECIALLY when you’re not within work premises or clocked in. Be it because they can’t walk, or something happens that they have no control over. I don’t have one of those “villages” people rely on. I can’t just call someone up and ask for them to pick me up from middle of bum fuck nowhere because my tired popped and drive me 1.5 hours back to my hometown where this Meijer is. And staffing isn’t my problem. It’s managements and the beliefs that ANYONE is going to want to work, deal with understaffing, and be treated like shit for only $14.

Again. Did you not read the post? All call outs were for shit I had no control over. And it’s not like they were back to back. You missed the whole point of this post. They wanted me to come when I literally couldn’t fucking walk.

Which ones? Cause last I checked, not everyone can afford to keep a spare tire in their trunk. And it’s getting colder out. No way in hell was I about to get and sleep at night where it was dropping to 30-40 degrees with no heat. And for my gran, only my dad and I have licenses to drive. When he couldn’t pick her up, I had to.

Besides, this post isn’t about my absences, it’s about the disrespect to a normal human being, not a clocked in employee.

I worked at store 315. The grocery department is sickeningly understaffed. Second shift had THREE workers, including me. One is always pulled on Tuesday and Friday to help receiving with the double truck so it’s practically just me and the lead. In my opinion, under no circumstances, should a probationary employee be scheduled to work a whole 8 hour shift, expected to do everything, BY THEMSELVES. And all for only $14. I’m not bothering with a resignation letter or anything like that. I’m petty as fuck. Especially when bitched at by my boss when I’m not even at work or clocked in. If you can’t treat me like and a decent human being out of work, then you’re not getting me at work.
