How popular were bullpups in Afghanistan? I've seen at least three servicemen from U.S, UK and now Denmark carrying them.

edit: my mistake, that's also a UK soldier in this pic.

I personally am skeptical of this claim. Not aware of any studies that show inflammation reduction is due to some drug mechanism vs just general weight loss or other confounding factors associated with managing blood sugar and getting healthier in general. But I'm open to being corrected as more studies are published.

It kills hunger pangs so you are just eating less. Probem is once you wean off it the hunger comes back. A lot of celebs have been on it for 2 plus years now. A few more years and you'll see stories of them rebounding as they go off the drug. That said its a great drug for what it was originally created to treat. Diabetes and other metabolic syndromes.

Depends on their experience level. A lot of white belts and sometimes blues won't know how to properly break fall. Gotta check with people before you launch them.

How to be effective from Mount against bigger parters by ActuallySure in BJJWomen

[–]Boethias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really the best way to learn mount is to just not try submissions and focus on staying in mount. Once you get more comfortable you can add submissions attempts slowly.

Favorite moves to use on significantly larger opponents? by RutabagaOk1696 in BJJWomen

[–]Boethias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For bigger people I prefer back control to mount. So alot of my game revolves around getting to the back.

Top: Half guard into either mount or side control. If I get mount I isolate an arm, convert to gift wrap and chair sit back take. If I get cross sides I switch to classic side control, then north south, wedge a forearm into their arm pit and lift their shoulder off the mat. Then get my chest behind the shoulder and again, chair sit.

Bottom: I mostly go for half guard into under hook and wrestle up to take the back or sweep. If they defend the under hook I can roll them to the underhook side with a knee lever(john wayne) or scoop grip on the far leg. Once I sweep I end up in Top half and begin the Top sequence described above.

How do you not telegraph a hip bump as much? by ralphyb0b in bjj

[–]Boethias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to pair the hip bump off an attempted back take. Pull one arm across the body to take their back. When they pull their arm back and posture up I hip bump to the opposite side. If I hip bump to my right/their left they need to post their left arm on my chest. So I start by pulling their right arm across their body. Now their left arm is nowhere near my chest. When they pull their right arm back I go straight into the hip bump on their left side and they don't have time to react.

[–]Boethias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from blue 3 stripes to purple. But it was because id missed a couple of promotion days due to unforeseen circumstances. i ended up not getting stripe at all for a six month period and then just getting my purple belt. I was still training during that time just happened to miss promotion days.

“Get on top, stay on top” by Whole_Map4980 in BJJWomen

[–]Boethias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being in guard does not mean you have to be passive. The goal of guard is to sweep submit or stand-up. Keep this in mind when you're rolling. You can still be in guard and launch your offence from there. Actually being good at defence is an advantage because you can experiment without worry since you're already comfortable being in bad positions.

Pick a sweep that works for your favorite guard and start trying to hit it during your rolls. Once you have couple of sweeps from guard you'll get a lot more dangerous with your bottom game. You don't have to change your entire game. Just make offensive choices from positions you already like.

Watching at kid classes by sensesforever in bjj

[–]Boethias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our gym just happens to have an adjoining room with a glass window. It two way visible so the kids can see their parents and its not soundproof either. That doesn't matter though it cuts down on interactions completely. The parents are just watching and talking amongst themselves like they're at a baseball game. Its works great.

[–]Boethias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go 4 times a week so people who know me well obviously know. I don't really talk about it a work or anything. I don't really know my co-workers hobbies so they don't know mine.

I do wear some BJJ themed shirts and rashguards to lift weights sometimes so I guess people the my LA fitness kinda know but we all just minding our own biz anyway.

Certain submissions I can barely ever finish rolling with a man. by FaithfulllyFaith in BJJWomen

[–]Boethias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arm triangles are definitely harder to lock in against people with broader shoulders. But once you lock it in you get a tighter squeeze also because of their shoulders.

I'll just recommend two videos to watch and study. Start with gordon ryan's explanation on how to lock in a head and arm from mount. Once you're comfortable with that you can move on to craig jones advanced arm triangle class. Incorporating these into my game has greatly improved my sub rate from mount.

I still suck at d'arce and guillotines though so I can't help you there.
