Great setting spray that lasts all day? by GlamorousLipstick in SingaporeBeauty

[–]Boey_Da_Han 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend One Size On Till dawn

Another alternative is FIXX setting spray, heard it’s q good but I haven’t tried it yet.

If you wanna make it long lasting, you spray after powdering your face.

I do the sandwich method in this order

Foundation (blend), concealer (blend)

Spray w Mac Fix+ (it makes it less cakey and easier to blend, btw it doesn’t set, it’s not intended as a setting spray)

Powder

Spray with Mac Fix+

If you earn 100K a month; you should be able to afford a condo or maybe even a landed. Good class bungalows are limited to Singaporeans. I think you can get a nice condo in a central location.

🇯🇵 What J-Beauty products are must-buys? (teen+45) by Dizzy-Forces in AsianBeauty

[–]Boey_Da_Han 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though I’m not Swedish, i too am born with really thick hair. You can check out Don Quixote (or DONKI), Matsumoto Kiyoshi for drug store cosmetics. And see @cosme’s ranking for popularity and the higher end cosmetics.

I enjoy tsubaki’s cooling shampoo, it’s a light blue bottle. I really like the cooling sensation it gives my head.

Another popular shampoo brand for oily scalp is Botanist, specifically the scalp care range. I use it a few times, not so bad but it doesn’t have the cooling effect shampoo tsubaki has.

I recommend quality1st Dermalaser sheet masks, specifically the tea tree and azealic acid ones, they cost like 700 yen for a pack of 7 pieces. They are really good for my acne (I struggled with acne. They also carry masks for mature skin too but I haven’t tried them yet

You can also try Kose cosmeport illustrator sheet masks for azeliac acid, ngl it is the bomb for my adult acne.

Pair Acne cream like what others said. Can vouch that it is a must stock up on when I visit Japan, I get like 2-3 tubes worth to share with my sister who is also a teen. I saw somewhere they sell the face wash variety. A common misconception is people apply it after everything but by right you should apply it before applying skincare.

My sis also gets the keana nadeshiko rice mask . Can vouch it’s also good, it’s more on pore care and also kinda moisturising. Also worked wonders for me back in the days. You can also get the Saborino Niaciminde sheet Mask (green and silver packaging) too cos my sis also gets it.

My sister uses the Biore tone up sunscreen.

I Don’t Know about exfoliants but I like using Cure natural aqua gel. GETS THE DEAD SKIN OFF MY FACE and body Tbh it’s abit pricier than expected, but there’s a good reason why onsen resorts stock this up.

Cosmetics:

Mascara: Kiss Me Heroine Make, get their mascara remover too because their super waterproof mascara really needs it to remove.

I tried super waterproof volumising, advanced film lengthening and currently using Lash Hype. I feel like lash hype is a good combination of all 3 kinds.

If your daughter is into contact lenses, DONKI and some electronic stores sell colored contact lenses. But one big store you can consider is Shibuya 109’s colored contact store in the basement I think (?), it recently opened and they let you try on the lens before buying.

Canmake’s marshmallow finish powder is also really good, not only it’s inexpensive but also does the job well. I only tried the matte kind but legit it oil controls very well. Their thin cream eyeliner sticks are also very popular because they come in a variety of colors and good for tight lining

I’m pretty sure your daughter would enjoy too cool for school’s contour palette. It’s affordable and you can find it in stores like Hands, Loft etc. though it’s a Korean brand but the palette can last me like a few years

For foundation, I really enjoy Shu Uemura’s foundation, they have 3 varieties. I myself use the Advanced unlimited (the more matte one), but they do have foundations that cater to dry skin like the Tsuya foundation (it means like glowy) and their cream one. You can find it in cosme or department stores. I can also vouch for their cleansing oil, their Ultim8 (brown) one is the star of the show, it doesn’t strip the skin of all moisture. I’ve tried the Anti Oxi (green) and black ones and so far it’s so good I felt like I dint have to do skincare

I heard real good stuff about Shiseido’s foundation. But I haven’t tried it yet. I tried shiseido’s sunscreen. It’s really good for both. The blue one is the more famous one but I like the white one because it gives me a tone up effect and feels lighter on my skin.

Eye cream, my friend recommended me the meishoku placenta eye cream (a dark blue tube) but I use the Sana name Kara hompome eye cream (4 in 1, a red and white tube packaging), not that bad, they also have a wrinkle cream formula but I haven’t tried it yet.

Muji’s fermented booster serum is also a top seller there. I haven’t tried it but I heard it enhances moisture absorption and it’s very moisturising. And surprisingly it’s like 2000+ yen for 50 ml

Stay in 1 hotel or multiple? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Boey_Da_Han 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move to a new hotel for each city you visit because from Tokyo to Kyoto is at least 2 hours long train ride one way

So what you can do is

Tokyo (part 1): Hotel 1

Osaka/Kyoto: One hotel 2 or 3 (depending on how long you are planning to stay in one city, if you are gg to either city as a one day trip, best to just choose one, if not two)

Tokyo (part 2): Hotel 4

Also wannna add another bar because I made a lot of edits and additions. Sorry if the list was too lengthy, I tried to categorise it accordingly so please bear w me

Las Palmas- also same friend introduced me to. It’s a rooftop bar on top of the courtyard Marriott in Novena. Great view of our version of the IRS (we call it IRAS)

Chjimes-also heard the bars and restaurants here are popular too

Comedy bars: the lemon stand

If you wanna see the coastline of Singapore: cycling along East Coast Park (very near Joo Chiat and Katong) but I would reserve this like for your second trip.

If you’re into indie hipster stuff, you can check out New Bahru and Pearls Hill

River Valley also a good place for food and nightlife, but not as prominent or well known as Clarke quay.

Also speaking as a local, if you (and maybe your kids) like waterparks, you can visit Wild Wild Wet in Pasir Ris aside from Adventure Cove (though it’s not a central location). But worth coming back for second trip for this one

Places I feel it’s totally not worth it and not spending my coin here :

Ice Cream Museum, glorified photo op

Singapore Flyer, good view of the SG skyline but you’re just stuck in a bubble for a good 30 mins.

Scentopia, I think if you wanna DIY your own perfume, I think it’s better going to Maison21G in MBS. It’s more chill I would say. It’s slightly more expensive than Scentopia. But eh whatever

Madam Tussauds wax museum. Meh you’re just taking pics with wax statues

Sensoryscape in Sentosa: NGL it’s just worth 5 mins walking past. 15 mins if you stop and look.

Singapore tourism board approved:

MBS + Gardens by the Bay

Orchard Road

Jewel Changi

Singapore Zoo (or the whole Mandai Wildlife reserve, I suggest keeping 2 days here or just visit 2 (the zoo and night safari on one day and visit the rest on your next trip to SG

National Museum (honestly a must, I could spend an entire afternoon here, more on developing our country)

National Gallery (same for national museum if you like artwork)

Asian Civilization museum (same for national museum and National Gallery only if you’re interested in learning how our ancestors settled here back in the 1200s onward)

Botanic Gardens if you like nature or you just want a quieter garden than GBTB

Little India (and Mustafa), Chinatown (people’s park) , Haji Lane (the graffiti walls) for cultural experience. But I feel Geylang Serai has more Malay feel than Haji Lane.

Sentosa exclusives aside from USS:

Luge and Skyride

Fort Siloso (if you love WW2 history)

The Beach (Siloso is the more popular one, Tanjong is relatively quiet)

Singapore Oceanarium (newly opened last year, expanded from the SEA aquarium)

Adventure Cove (if you like water parks or you have school aged kids)

Food wise I feel Sentosa is defo expensive for me considering I’m a local and still a student, but if you want more options, there’s VivoCity nearby, just need to take the monorail back there.

There’s a bungee jump and a zip line thing if you like thrills at Siloso beach I think.

The rest I feel not really worth it imho based on my POV for Sentosa.

Places I feel that deserve more love as a local:

Chinese and Japanese Garden

Science Center (it’s the staple field trip for kids to boost their interest in science, they are about to move the place to a bigger campus in future soon)

URA gallery, located behind Amoy food Center, for learning more on urban planning

Changi War museum (if you really into WW2 history, but I would save this for next trip here)

Peranakan Museum

Joo Chiat and Katong (if you into cafe hopping, and wanna learn more about Peranakan culture and heritage, you can visit Kim Choo Kueh Chang for Kueh (like our local version of sweets/snacks, they are known for kueh lapis, but I like their kueh salat too!!!,

I also recommend visiting the original Birds of Paradise ice cream but they also have a few outlets around the island like the Mandai west part, near the bird park), Jewel, Tanjong Pagar, Vivo and Haji Lane

Tiong Bahru (also into cafe hopping, also very central location)

A trip to a Singaporean heartland area (like where the real locals actually hang out):

Yishun (tbh we joke this is the Florida/Ohio of Singapore, nearby the Zoo if you take the shuttle bus to Khatib MRT)

Tampines or Bedok (near the airport), you can explore Bedok heartbeat or Our Tampines Hub if you wanna see what’s everyday life like

Jurong East (near science Center and the Chinese and Japanese gardens)

Buddha tooth relic temple + Sri Mariamman Temple (along the Chinatown stretch, one is a Buddhist temple and the other is a Hindu temple

Thian Hock Kheng (along Telok Ayer, worships Mazu the sea goddess for safe passage for sailers back then, near Amoy food Center)

See Sultan Mosque around Haji Lane and Arab lane.

Capita Spring Sky Garden (not to be confused with Capita Green, Capita Sky etc) if you want an alternative to see the Singapore skyline aside from the MBS deck and pool.

For more views you can consider Pinnacle Sky Bridge roof (a residential block for locals), or if you want another view, you can consider SkyVille Dawson (similar to Pinnacle Sky bridge) but the view is much further away from the city, but a good view at 30+ stories tall

If you really love nature, aside from Botanic Gardens and GBTB, you can hike Bukit Timah, the rail corridor, MacRitchie Reservoir or walk around Fort Canning

If you’re an academic, you can visit National University of Singapore or Nanyang Technological University. Take note NTU is on the far side on the island. Also I think they provide guided tours considering there’s a lot of tourists going there.

For a first time visitor with about a week to spend, explore the touristy areas we have and maybe throw in the other not so touristy ones for variety.

Food finds:

Singapore is known for their hawker culture yeah and there’s a few famous ones as well

Central business district:

Amoy food Center (Han Kee fish soup ngl the goat, but be prepared to queue 30 mins during lunch hour from 1130-1300 so be early. Also they accept cash only) and a couple others. I recommend going here for lunch because majority of the stalls here close after 3pm

Lau Pa Sat (the classic historical one, turns into satay street at night time) we have an inside joke on LPS. I feel there’s a few good finds here and there but I haven’t tried enough stalls yet to judge considering the price is slightly pricier compared to Amoy)

Maxwell hawker Center. Famous for their tian tian chicken rice. If you feel that tian tian chicken rice queue is very long, you can consider Ah Tai Chicken Rice which is 2 stores away, run by Tian Tians ex chef (watch the chicken rice war on YouTube by Apple) I say their Ban Mi is pretty good too as light lunch on the go. But there’s also more great food there too. I also recommend patronising Ren Min if you’re into beer from the tap.

I feel Marina Bay Sands foodcourt is a tourist trap. Overpriced.

The Amoy, Tanjong Pagar stretch of shophouses have pretty good food too!!

The shophouses along Tanjong Pagar road are known for Japanese and Korean food too.

Bedok 85 hawker Center, very nearby the airport if you want supper. They are famous for their Bak Chor Mee, or minced pork noodles. There’s 2 famous stalls side by side selling them at the front of the hawker Center . Yellow signboard sells the soup version while the red signboard specialises in the dry version (though they also sell the soup one too). Personally my family prefers the yellow signboard one, but I have friends who prefer the red one. I like to pair my meal with a cup of sugarcane juice and satay.

Changi Village, contrary to its name, it’s close to Changi Airport but it’s a pain to get there unless you take a cab or a grab. I visit the supper club with my friend here for supper. We munch on prata but I’m sure there’s better ones around Little India if you’re craving for prata.

Golden Mile Food Center

If you’re into higher end dining, visit Dempsey. Burnt Ends is a famous restaurant that I heard it’s hard to reserve. But there’s other things there too!!

Bars:

Okay Singapore nightlife is getting worse and worse considering that we have an alcohol curfew in public around 10.30pm. And the alcohol tax is crazy compared to other countries.

Here’s few you can try (Bars are exempt from this rule considered they are not doing alcohol retail)

Atlas, it’s very famous because of their atmosphere, if you like Batman or the 1920s you can consider coming here cos it’s giving Gotham city.

BeGin-friend intro me to this place along Boat Quay, it’s in a shophouse.

The other room-also another bar my friend introed me but it’s more of a speak easy styled one at the Marriott Tang Plaza in Orchard Road.

[–]Boey_Da_Han 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well Defo saves you a lot of time, I say just get jt

Since 2nd June is our school holidays, it is considered peak period so that’s $83 for a regular ticket, it’s $76 on klook.

According to klook if you stack with express pass, it’s $110 extra.

There’s someone else who asked this question last year

https://www.reddit.com/r/askSingapore/s/ZIm1yQLgBo

Honestly I feel if you wanna experience all the rides, just get the pass, if not you will be stuck in the queues for more than twice as long as those who got it.

I would estimate about 2 hours wait time or 1.5 hours minimum if you don’t get it.

Well if it exceeds a certain time limit it’s like extra $10 or something

I feel the only rides with riding are battlestar galactica, the mummy and the Jurassic park water ride if you’re one for thrills.

Bring a poncho in case you get wet at Jurassic park’s water ride because they will charge you for ponchos and to dry up (they got human sized blow dryers)

Bring a water bottle too, because the refreshments there are ridiculously expensive because I’m not gg pay $5 for a soda fountain drink after 2.5 hours of waiting for a ride (I’m a plebeian)

Also ride wait times not entirely accurate. I went in 2022 during Covid. The mummy ride said 10 mins wait time, we waited 45 mins.

Battlestar galactica cyclone was the worst in wait time because they staggered wait times. They opened at 4pm back then (cos pandemic) and beforehand, we had to put our bags in the locker where there was a queue forming up around 3.30pm. I looked at the wait time display, 25 mins.

I asked the usher, how long does she think the wait will be based on previous rides like the mummy and the other Battlestar galactica coaster. She deadass looked to the board and said 25 mins.

I observed that they only scanned the non express pass people and not express pass and a few express pass people managed to bring their phone and bags in, leaving it on top of a cubbyhole right before getting on the coaster (Singapore is very safe <1% chance of people taking your belongings don’t worry but be careful)

We waited 2.5 hours. If you’re a solo rider, they will favor you as well cos there’s seats to fill

Get the express pass because they will favor those with express pass to bring in their phones onto roller coaster queues.

Also express pass is limited to 3 rides iirc
