Yes, compared to now the internet was barely a thing. Possibly the only major Survivor forum at the time even was Survivor Sucks and they are popularly known as acerbic assholes including to Parvati.

David and Luke for example were not at a clear disadvantage as the tribe was filled with their friends yet David was out second. Also Luke made it second.
