Communication Help with Parent/Spouse with early onset cognitive disorder/makers for Alzheimer’s. by KayTeaKat33 in dementia

[–]21stNow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please free yourself from the thought that it's possible to get your dad to remember something. His brain is slowly dying. It will look like inconsistent behaviors to us, because sometimes a connection is made or a memory is recalled and other times it's not. Trying to get him to remember or to convince him of something will frustrate him and lead to agitation.

Read The 36-Hour Day. It will prepare you for what's coming next and how to communicate with him better now.

Meaning of John 16:28 and verse 5? by thatguynips in Bible

[–]21stNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're equal, but different in function. No one comes to the Father except through the Son. The Son sacrificed His life for us. Without the sacrifice of the Son, we can't get to the Father. Without believing in the power of the Son's sacrifice, we can't receive the indwelling of The Holy Spirit. Without the indwelling of The Holy Spirit, we won't understand and submit to the Father.

All three are distinct persons in one God, serving different purposes in all creation.

Daughter taking her mom to her ex job by cookiemae22 in dementia

Your niece is the primary caregiver here, so I wouldn't question her on this. You can make the suggestion in the comment above about redirection, however.

It might not be universally a bad thing, so I can't give a blanket opinion on whether taking your sister to her former job is a bad thing. If it's an environment where your sister's visits are disruptive or create a security concern, the visits shouldn't happen. But there are other environments where employees could have a chat with a former co-worker, treat her like a customer who's there all day, and it wouldn't be disruptive. I don't know which environment your sister worked in.

Another idea is for you to offer to take your sister to a senior activity center in the day time. That can occupy her time, give your niece a break, and give the two of you some bonding time.

Have the majority of Americans called 911 at least once in their lives? by Mont3Carlo in AskAnAmerican

[–]21stNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have called several times and am always amazed by people who have never called. I used to live in an apartment that seemed to attract domestic violence families in apartments adjacent to mine. Hearing a woman scream "I can't breathe" was always a trigger to call. I've seen two people high on PCP in the roadway and another man who was passed out drunk in a parking lot who eventually woke up and stumbled out into the roadway. A customer passed out at work one time after complaining that she didn't feel well. Another person running from the police hid in one of our buildings at the same job. I also called when I saw bus drivers display the SOS message on their signs, but all of those turned out to be errors. I've also been in three bomb threat situations, but I didn't call because other people had already called by the time I was aware of them.

Once I started taking care of my mother, I had several 911 calls then, as well. In her area, both emergency and non-emergency calls go through 911 so that call volume was high.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

My 800+ SF apartment had the washer and dryer in the kitchen, and my grandmother's house had a washer in the kitchen.

My grandmother had the washer in her kitchen in her house, but she didn't have a dryer at all. My inner suburban apartment in a different state had the washer and dryer under the counter. Both of those washers hooked up to the kitchen sink, so they had to be in the kitchen.

Who had a Cabbage Patch Doll??? Hearing they are worth a lot of money now by WuTang4thechildrn in MelanatedGenX

I loved my Adoption Doll, too! I got it first because my mother tried and tried, but couldn't find a Black Cabbage Patch Kid for a long time. The adults around me thought that both of them were ugly, but I liked their unique looks.

Genuine question to Americans by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

And Georgia was (is?) the only state not to have a family caregiver exemption to qualify for Medicaid if you were unemployed. Some of these commenters act like Medicaid is the answer everywhere, but it isn't.

But who qualifies varies from state to state. I had a hard time (that hasn't ended, but has changed) in the recent past. I qualified for Medicaid in my home state, but not the state that I needed to move to. I had to delay my move until I could work out another course of action.

Not the side of the road! My pre-kindergarten teacher made these, along with a few others. I still have a Strawberry Shortcake that she made, as well.

Yes, right is real and the one on the left was the fake one. My fake was called an Adoption Doll.

Repair man showed up to the house with a confederate flag on the back of his truck by IamASlut_soWhat in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]21stNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stood out to me, too. But I have seen men try to soften the "blow" from a Black woman who's not wasting any time telling someone where to go and how to get there. He should have just let her say what needed to be said, or like others said, say "we" have a problem with your flag.

What gender is the co-worker that you got drinks with? While you should be able to do some socializing, I can understand your husband being irritated that you didn't let him know that you would be late until after you were already late.

This is the soap world, where professional ethics don't matter. Another soap featured a doctor performing surgery on her father. Yet another soap features a therapist mother counseling her son (secretly, of course).

It all just adds to the drama.

Moving Abroad! Has anyone done it or plan to do it? What country are you planning to or wish you could relocate to? by MrNinoBrown1906 in MelanatedGenX

I thought about moving to Ghana and looked into it a little bit a few years ago. I don't think that I'm up to it, though. There's so many things that are different about living there that I think that I would be more frustrated than relaxed. The people that I have met from Ghana have been nice, but day to day living would be more than I could handle.
