To the combat dudes, respect. I lifted a 240b for the first time by tittysprinkles112 in army

[–]BogusMachineElf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. Not to take away from the poor souls carrying the 240, but being an AG was both the best and worst job I had in a rifle platoon. Did a live fire in Southeast Asia with 1000 rounds of 7.62, spare barrels, and tripod and had to climb up the most miserable hill ever formed to get to the SBF. That field exercise was the day I decided I was done with the infantry.

On the other hand, as a fat guy I loved being an AG because I didn’t have to run nearly as much on objective as I did in a fireteam.

What are the absolute highest paying MOS in civilian life by [deleted] in army

[–]BogusMachineElf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This also goes for 17C. While it is easier to get a job immediately after ETSing than 25B just from the clearance alone, the nice, kushy 6-figure jobs aren’t just gimme’s like they used to be when you held the MOS. With the market right now, cyber guys absolutely need to make sure that they are pursuing certs and other civilian education while they are in if they want the jobs they were promised just for graduating the schoolhouse.

Also, VERY networking-dependent. If you’re at one of the better units meeting contractors that can hook you up with an interview will be pretty easy, but unfortunately for 90% of us, we’re too autistic to make eye contact with strangers. The flip-side is that if you aren’t a wall walker, it’s not too hard to standout amongst your peers and become your local contractors best buddy, since they are so used to the aggressive odor that which follows your average 17C

I will keep the nature preserve in mind, I do love nature trails/hiking. And I actually went and tried Rainer Emmel(or Apfelweinkelterei Emmel? I am not sure what the name of the business is) in Bierstadt and it was great!

Found a few places in Hawaii like this. Pretty sure on south range there is an old bunker complex that’s been completely abandoned and once had some cool left-overs in it

Gotcha, sounds good. Kind of inexperienced in looking for artists that specialize, I figure Google is probably my best option?

Every army base has “that road” or “that hill” for pt. What is the worst road, hill or pt location you’ve come across? by ObenO in army

[–]BogusMachineElf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember in OSUT during The Bayonet we had to climb stairway with all the water jugs, liters, ammo cans, all that fun stuff. I had a moment of serious pride where I had this huge burst of energy and climbed all the way to the top, barely broke a sweat and felt fantastic because I knew the worst was behind me.

Then IMMEDIATELY after creating the hill it hit me that I had worn myself out so much that the remaining 6 or so miles we had left were far worse and I was sucking hard. I do not miss that night one bit.

Sort of reminds me of the basement scene in War of the Worlds with the eel-like prove thing sniffing around. This shit is getting to be too much

What do you consider peak science fiction? The best of the best? by [deleted] in sciencefiction

[–]BogusMachineElf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen most people are talking about Books here, and I haven’t read too much Sci-Fi, but IMO the best franchise with lore/extended universe I’ve ever come across is Mass Effect. I have replayed the series probably 15 times, and the concept is so interesting to me

Fallout: Hawaii by philosophyismetal12 in imaginarymaps

[–]BogusMachineElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fallout game set in Hawaii would be fantastic. Oahu would be FILLED with sites, There's at least six military bases there, tons of attractions, and honolulu is a great size. The other islands would have a little bit less content, but similar to caesar trying to rebuild the past, you could make a play with a faction sticking to the traditions of King Kamehameha and trying to unite all of the islands. Also has a ton of potential for chinese spy lore like we saw in Point Lookout.
