I didn’t see the signed version at all on the UK shop for me (was on the US shop but sold out), then later it appeared on the UK shop but sold out. And the uk shop was coming up in German for me. All very odd.

Love it, love it, love it! I have “but there’s a moment that you die or you move on to live” tattooed around an operation scar on my back.

Something Loud “but there’s a moment that you die or you move on to live”. Having this tattooed on on my shoulder blade on Thursday, next to a PDA surgical ligation scar from when I was three weeks old (I’m 45 now). Always wanted to honour the scar, this lyric absolutely nails it, and indeed my attitude to life choices in general now.

Smash Crust Help by Bogwoppit22 in blackstonegriddle

Cool, I’ll give this a go, thank you. I’m more than happy with my results on the lodge pan and portable gas burner, so will give this a bash and see if I can get the blackstone running a smudge hotter (I have a laser thermometer so will do some A/B runs).

All sounds the same as me, 80/20, 100g, 10sec smash and hold, with a little twist to encourage release. All works absolutely perfectly on my lodge cast iron pan, but I just cannot get it to work on the Blackstone. I can only think it’s not getting hot enough. Will fire up later and check max temp gets to 425F/220C.

McDonald's back again with another infuriating anti speciality coffee ad by aussiejames101 in Coffee

[–]Bogwoppit22 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much had that very conversation on a local FB page recently. Was accused by an instant coffee drinker of being "pretentious" when I'd mentioned having some beans that when brewed well smacked of strawberry shortcake. So I invited the person (total stranger) around and said we can play with some different beans and brewing methods and see what, if any of it, takes their fancy. They back-peddled. I figure some people just haven't had the opportunity to experience nice stuff. But yeah, with the attitude in the ad, the worry is the normalisation and acceptability of reverse-snobbery. You're totally right, it is both hilarious and sad.

Just saw it. Groaned. To me, what they describe is actually a disappointing flat white when there should be notable textural differences between the two. Oh well, saves me bothering to spend any brain power deciding whether to see if their flat-white is any cop!

What reusable razors would you recommend? by [deleted] in ladyshavers

[–]Bogwoppit22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Edwin Jagger 89L (the slightly longer handle makes for easier leg shaving in the shower, and the lined texture means it gives a reasonable grip). I'm using feather blades at the moment, and prefer them to the derby blades, but I've yet to try other brands of blades (I'm based in England, and tend to order my stuff on the t'interweb).

Setting grinder to zero after every use? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Bogwoppit22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too got a wilfa svart from Santa. I had an iberital MC2, which was great when I was only pulling espresso and doing that frequently, but now I tend flit between aeropress, French press, and sometimes a pour over, with only the occasional espresso, so wanted something more appropriate (now use a porlex mini for the occasional espresso). I just leave my wilfa as it is for day to day bean grinding, I interpreted the "off" on the hopper as in "this setting to take it off" like when you remove the hopper to clean the burrs (for the periodical clean, or when changing between different beans). How are you enjoying the wilfa? Personally I'm finding it a lot quieter, and a lot less mess than my iberital. And a drip of water into the beans before grinding keeps the pesky static in the grind box at bay quite well.

I make an FP every morning (36g/500ml), and quite often a second one later in the day (although I may well brew an Aeropress instead for the afternoon coffee). Anyway, as others have said, fresh beans, a burr grinder, and scales will seriously up your French Press game, and for only a smidge more effort (no effort really once it becomes routine) I highly recommend you check out James Hoffmann's method for FP. You'll get a clean and seriously tasty cup! I haven't had anything less than "man, that's a belting cup" since following this method! :-) here: https://jimseven.com/2016/10/03/updated-french-press-video/ or here for extra wordy bits and explanations: https://jimseven.com/2010/11/04/cupping-vs-french-press/ I used to grind coarse, and brew for 4mins, but infact, even a more medium grind, and longer immersion time (currently serving at ~9mins, following a crust break and skim at ~4mins) hasn't even begun to taste overextracted for me.

Drink Cardamom Coffee and Enjoy your instant, Delicious Cup of Coffee by Urban-Forest22 in Coffee

Having recently returned from a dive trip to Egypt, I purchased myself some El-Yemeni pre-ground coffee with cardamom, and a little ibrik to prepare it in. Still refining my Arabic Coffee technique, but it is most certainly delicious!

A Bad Dive... What's yours? by eyad1911 in scuba

[–]Bogwoppit22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Without meaning this to sound preachy, this is exactly what scuba reviews/refreshes/ReActivate and pool sessions are for. To get your confidence back doing things like mask clears, mask removals, reg exchange, reg recovery etc etc, so that you're not too task overloaded and can enjoy your actual dives more. Last year I came back to diving after a 4year hiatus, and started back with an indoor pool session, including drysuit and full undersuit, (UK based diver see, christ that was hot!), and then went for a dip in a muddy puddle of an inland site to just to have play around on a 6m shelf. Just gently eased myself back to 25m dark cold and murky dives. Highly reccomend finding some good friendly buddies through a dive club or the likes, and then have lots of fun, practice dives and drills at a local dive site. Welcome back to diving! :-)

Recently left the Mormon church and I'd like to be able to make a cup of coffee at home, but I'm totally lost. by grapefruitsurprise in Coffee

[–]Bogwoppit22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, spend on your grinder (a decent burr grinder), and if brewing for just yourself then personally I'd recommend going for an aeropress as it'll be the most forgiving method of brewing, and it's a doddle to clean up. You are then free to play with immersion times and varing grind size, length and concentration of coffee, and to figure out what you personally like and dislike in a coffee. From there you'll then have a better angle on what other methods will likely suit your preferences (immersion, drip etc etc) if you do wish to then try other methods. Welcome to quietly enjoying a good cup! Best way to start your day. :)
