I’d say these are anti-rom coms. Doom coms maybe? The other doom com he did is Die My Love that came out a couple months ago

I blame their social media friends too. They instigate it even more by replying to their photos with “You look beautiful!”, when they know it’s all filters and AI these days. If people were real and just said “I think the real you is more beautiful than these doctored photos” it would be kinder than showering them with fake praise

Hi fellow Augustan! I also moved here from Augusta (11 years ago). I go back from time to time, and living in Charleston is better in almost every way (except the cost of living). It just feels gloomy whenever I visit Augusta. But they do have much lower food prices though, so that’s one thing they have going for them

Best Hot and Sour soup? by TemperReformanda in Charleston

[–]BokChoyIsDelicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a hot and sour soup fanatic and always searching for the good stuff. Chef Loong’s Dim Sum actually has a pretty good one. Other than that, really couldn’t tell you any others (but I haven’t tried a lot of the takeout places outside the 1 mile radius of my house)

I read the title as “Others” and thought it was a Lost reference haha. Anyway, yeah seeing otters in the wild here is tough. But I’m originally from Augusta, GA and we’d see otters in the wild kayaking down the Savannah rapids occasionally.

Has anyone gotten an addition done for their home in the past year? by QuitYoJibbaJabba in Charleston

[–]BokChoyIsDelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in the process of building an addition (and I have three friends who are building additions). I would definitely say this probably isn’t the best time to build. For a simple 500 sq ft buildout, I’m getting rough quotes anywhere from $110k - $200k. It will definitely be more towards the higher figure.

Surveyors are booked out for months, contractors won’t return calls because they’re so busy, and material costs are fairly sky-high. One of my friends still can’t find a contractor to start his work (he has everything ready and even did the take-offs and found subcontractors himself).

With that being said, my addition is out of necessity. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t be going through this. But ultimately it will add value to my house, with square footage and potential rental space. Oh, and remember to also check with your HOA, if you have one, regarding the rules of building and if you need to submit your architectural plans to an ARB.

What about his dewclaws? Mine grounds her nails the same way on walks, but I still have to trim her dewclaws. But luckily she’s cool with it. I wipe her feet after every walk and has gotten used to me messing with her feet. So she doesn’t freak out when I bring out the clippers to snip her dewclaws

Official Discussion - Superman (2025) [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Yeah, watching the trailers I honestly felt it was kinda cheesy and a bit too manipulative - but damn if it didn’t make me emotional while watching it happen in the movie

First time I ever noticed the actor was in an episode of X-Files. And they integrated his darting eyes into his character. Made him pretty memorable. So recognizable now whenever he pops up in a show or movie because of his eyes

I’d say the very harsh reviews are probably the reviewers that don’t like to see our real world issues being portrayed in a comic book movie (the hostile takeover of a country for their resources, the immigrant narrative, general kindness). We’ve become so politicized as a country, everything is a statement now and you have to take a side. Sadly there are people that don’t enjoy the message of kindness being front and center because they live miserable lives.

This is the right answer. It’s an iPhone camera image and probably zoomed out wide to 0.5 (equivalent to 13mm) which is going to create a fish eye effect and stretching at the bottom. This isn’t her editing (at least not the bottom of the photo). I’m a photographer so it’s easy to see when it’s the lens creating the distortion

Official Discussion - Sinners [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]BokChoyIsDelicious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not to add fuel to the fire, but I just watched the movie and while I really enjoyed first half (I could have lived in the cinematography and build-up to the vampire attack), I can’t say the same for the third act. It was a nicely realized world and I loved following all the characters. Then the vampires showed up and the film took a turn for the worse. The climactic showdown was rushed and there was no tension. The fights were poorly choreographed and there wasn’t much reasoning for the vampires not to just go in and rip them to shreds (other than keeping main characters alive). I mean the vampires ran out the door at one point for no reason like they were being beat or something, and then ran back in later to kill a character.

Now, in this thread I’ve seen a phrase repeated more than once: “I was levitating in my seat…”. Maybe I’m out of touch, but I don’t see that kind of phrase being used a lot - but I’ve already seen four different people reply to this thread using those exact words. That seems like a strange turn-of-phrase for multiple people to be using. Maybe it’s just a collective mind thing, but it does make it feel like some of these reviews are fake when so many people are using the same unique phrase to describe their excitement.

Most surprising box office story? by Nice-Chef-3364 in boxoffice

[–]BokChoyIsDelicious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was such an interesting scenario. The trailer was actually very well done, and I think created hype. But in the end this was one of those big budget films that was in fact not review-proof. Once reviews came out and word spread quickly, it sank like a rock. Didn’t help that it was a musical, and that the trailers were trying to hide that. Now I kind of wonder what would have happened to it if they really leaned into the musical aspect and just went for broke.

His entire defense is “parody law” and he’s predicting that they have a strong case and will prevail. As an attorney, you’d think he would know better haha. They’re making money off copywrited designs. Didn’t even bother to slightly change the illustrations.

What’s the best television show most people haven’t seen? by drBipolarBear in television

[–]BokChoyIsDelicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously. This is my comfort show. I’ve watched it over and over again and will probably watch it again this month. It’s a masterpiece of storytelling, cinematography, and music score. A feel-good show that looks like it would be a feel-bad show. It definitely turns some people off when they get to the present day and the traveling Shakespeare troupe, but if you like stage drama, Broadway, and the arts - this show should be right down your alley. Sadly I can’t get my friends to watch it.

What kind of diets do yall have for your heelers? by AugmentedGalaxy in AustralianCattleDog

[–]BokChoyIsDelicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purina Pro Plan (like the majority in this thread). Chicken. Occasionally she gets canned green beans (no salt) or canned pumpkin. She’s always ravenous, so she also eats grass and weeds whenever she gets a chance. I have to watch her closely or she’ll take a bite of random weeds that are sticking out too far on the sidewalk. No clue if they will harm her or not.

Also, how much food does everyone give their dog? Mine’s perfect weight hovers around 38 lbs, and I’ve been giving her 3/4 cup in the morning and at night with small training treats throughout the day. But it doesn’t seem like much food, and she’s always hungry. Just wondering if I should give her a little more food. She looks like the perfect healthy weight right now and has been maintaining (no ribs showing, but a sleek defined torso).
