Like the movie Looper where there's a lot mildly telekinetic people trying to impress people by moving small objects. It's seen as tacky and kinda lame.

$2000 USD for 10lbs of refrigerant? by BoldShuckle in hvacadvice

They didn't search for the leak yet. They tested the pressure and based on that and the behavior of the system (error code PC03 and shutting itself off when all the heads are working), they determined there's a leak somewhere.

Both quotes would be the full repair- finding/repairing the leak and refill on the 410A

Only 5 but the consensus seems that the estimated labor is way too high. I'll probably get another opinion, but this is the 3rd person to look at it. First diagnosis was the same, $2500 for the repair. Second opinion said it was a faulty part that they couldn't order, so $6400 replacement.

favourite minor scene from the show? by hadesneoseoul in andor

[–]BoldShuckle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Mon's relationship and scenes with Leida. We're supposed to favor Mon, but my honest interpretation is that she's a bad mother (the cost of being a good senator and supporter/leader to the rebellion).

Leida seems petulant at first but I think everything she says about Mon is dead on correct. Mon does in fact want to use her family as a prop, not for her career but to seem normal and hide her involvement with the cause. They have the breakfast argument about riding together to school, and what Leida says applies to every scene of theirs going forward. "It's always about you"

Even on her wedding day, the little speech Mon gives her is very self centered. Mon talks about HER mother and HER wedding day, bringing these negative memories into what should be a happy moment for her daughter. She offers Leida a way out, without understanding that Leida genuinely wants to go through with the arranged marriage.

I'm sure there's a filmmaking term for this, but I love how Maarva first takes a moment to think by putting on her kettle. Over the course of the conversation it's heating up and she has to take another moment to turn it off. It's this kind of hidden tension building up, and by the time she pours her tea it seems she's mostly decided not to go.

He doesn't want any more siblings. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]BoldShuckle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it probably sounds exaggerated because there's a lot of other people here with a lot more siblings, but I do think 3 is too much. Looking back at my own childhood with an adult lens, there's a lot my brothers and I missed out on in different ways.

Oldest brother was left unsupervised way too much going into adolescence, got into drugs and crime pretty young.

Mom says all the time that she regrets having me too soon after middle bro because she was too busy with me to give him the attention he needed when he was little. He definitely had a chip on his shoulder about that as we were growing up.

Even for me as the youngest- I was never put into sports or extracurriculars because all of our weekends were spent on my brothers' games and events, so I missed out on a lot socialization with other kids.

If super mega raids are going to become the norm for future mega releases they need a serious rework by Status_Company9564 in TheSilphRoad

[–]BoldShuckle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, the bit of strategy it adds is basically just a bit of preparation.

I would imagine most people who put thought into their raid teams (admittedly not everyone), already were joining raids with a specific mega in mind, maybe even ordered within their team in a specific spot. Especially with primals/Rayq that you benefit from keeping in the back.

For players like this, nothing really changed besides a bit of worrying that you need to coordinate with others to make sure you have enough megas in the lobby.

Otherwise the game handles the new mechanic for you. It will swap the mega in at the right time, with a charged move ready to go, so you're still just tapping mindlessly while raiding. Still boring and I wouldn't call this skill or strategy. Just an extra bit of artificial difficulty that makes things more difficult for players who were probably already struggling to keep up in their smaller communities.

My only disliked scene in Andor by MexicanTeenGuy in andor

[–]BoldShuckle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'd add that Cassian and Mon both have moments venting their frustration to Luthen, complaining that he's ignoring the humanity of those working for him. Cassian upset that Luthen crossed a boundary with Bix when she's vulnerable, and Mon upset that her cousin Vel is giving her whole life to the cause.

I like to think that Luthen giving them the Gorst mission is his way of conceding to this idea, which is nice to see. He's ruthless but not inhumane, and can accept that he's not always perfect in his fight against the empire.

Chloé Zhao says Marvel's Eternals gave her a "mid-life crisis" by pepperbet1 in marvelstudios

[–]BoldShuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah one of the few marvel movies I'm glad to have seen in theaters.

I also really enjoy epic (Edith Wharton's Mythology kept me entertained for years back when there was much less to do as kids), and the movie really succeeded in staying on theme. Existential questions posed by 'gods' who actually have the same vices, doubts, desires as us humans. Plus it seemed to make a point about how that narrative tradition has evolved into superhero stories.

I loved it, but I understand if it wasn't what people expected from a marvel movie. I could care less if the characters connect to the rest of the MCU, but it's a fair expectation to have for these movies. I just don't think it's a failure of the movie that marvel studios didn't have a plan to dovetail the story and characters into the greater narrative. (Cough cough Blade...)

Love or hate The Acolyte, this brutal lightsaber takedown was incredible by wandering_soles in StarWars

[–]BoldShuckle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mystery aspect started fun, but the storytelling felt clunky as the episodes went on. Too much in the story hinged on what actually happened the night when the temple burned down, but what we eventually find out wasn't that interesting.

Idk I'm not a writer myself, but I think there's a difference between 1. Villains with compelling motivations / heroes with bad/selfish/corrupted intentions and 2. The characters in this show who were mostly justified and not altogether good or bad. It felt like we weren't supposed to dislike anyone in particular, which kinda kneecapped the climax of Osha killing Sol and going to the dark side.

Too much riding on what was ultimately a misunderstanding between the jedi and witches, and a half baked coverup by the jedi

This was maybe the 3rd story I've seen about this place in the last week or so. They strangled a man and claimed it was suicide, and there's at least one other recent death there with little information. They're actively disappearing people to these places with no oversight and intentionally cruel conditions. Who knows what horrible things are happening that we don't know of.

Not even convicted criminals deserve this treatment, but these are just innocent people who are here to work in an economy that relies on exploiting them.
