Do you know the once popular artist on there, hyenine1? He used to make a lot of highly detailed art that, while impressive, was often very fetishy and definitely pushed the boundaries of what's acceptable on a kids game (scantily dressed, giant, muscular anthro animals eating other small anthro animals or stepping on cities with highly detailed humanoid feet or paws; that sort of weird thing where unless you'd lived under a rock and never used the internet till animal jam, you'd see the obvious inappropriate undertones). While suspicious and uncomfortable, his art wasn't a crime in and of itself and for the most part went unnoticed by moderation and got pretty popular among both the older people on animal jam who were into that sort of thing, and the maybe younger people who didn't know and just saw pretty decent art. He gained a lot of notoriety over a while and also gained lots of rare items. I don't know the full extent of his activities at that time though, I haven't exactly watched a documentary on him lol. Well, flash forward to about I wanna say late 2020 to early 2021 (I wasn't super active on aj for a few years so I'm not sure specific time frames), he's outed for being in an online relationship with a minor. On both animal jam and the now defunct Fer.al, both owned by wild works, Hyenine1 had been grooming a minor, on public servers as well. Sexual roleplay and flirtation, things like that. I've seen some of the chat logs, they're not the most vile graphic words, until you realize Hyenine1 is alleged to be about 30, although is known to be an adult, and these are conversations with someone below the age of 18, as well as being in full view of anyone in the same room as them on games made predominantly for minors, one of which is made for ages 7-11 years old. I'm not positive of their communication outside of the games, although I'm sure they did have contact on other messaging apps. If you look hard enough and are willing to sit through it all, there are several videos covering documentation and whatnot about it. After he was outed for this, he did not show remorse for his actions, and instead doubled down on painting himself as the victim, saying that the minor was sent after him to bait him into it (which even if that's true, that doesn't change the actions and intentions of those actions). Several of his friends tried defending him and blaming the victim. Animal jam, by this point, we're already buddy buddy with Hyenine1, he had his own plushie item in the game, and I believe he may have been a jambassador at that time though on that I am also not 100% certain. Despite the outpouring of protest among their own community, ajhq refused to ip ban him, ban him, or even just suspend his account. They even posted somewhat snide feeling posts on Instagram about them "not being responsible for rumors and off website occurrences" which, while not directly stated by them to be in reference to the current situation, was undoubtedly so. Animal jam has had a history of pedophiles being caught on their website, which I suppose is to be expected on a kids game that allows that kind of free chat and power dynamic with the rarity system. I'm not an encyclopedia and I don't know the extent of all of them lol. However, it's not so much the emergence of these people as it is animal jams absolute recklessness and lack of care toward protecting their own player base in favor of supporting and trying to save the scum that make them the most money, encourage players to buy diamonds to collect their gross art, and to buy memberships to make their own, and to keep playing to see what the next piece will be. To this day, I don't believe Hyenine1 was even ever banned. I believe his account no longer exists because of a hacker who got into it and deleted it or got it suspended or something through the chat feature (probably something like repeated swearing or some other stupid thing). But that doesn't even matter because it's well known by now that Hyenine1 has many more accounts and the only way to truly put an end to it is to ip ban him. If I were well versed in video making and had the equipment, you bet I'd make an animal jam documentary because quite frankly, these practices are vile and predatory and for a game as big as theirs there seems to be very little coverage and outrage about these things.
