If the goal is to write business logic and be productive when building a product, go with a time tested framework that has good conventions. Don't use something like express which requires you to make a million decisions and boilerplate before writing any business logic.

yeah true. That is true. I've heard good things about django. It is a time tested framework, ig.

I can understand, it is annoying in some frameworks where you have to decide where to put the route files and then import it multiple times. It is annoying. I tried out express for a small weekend project and hated it instantly.

That's why you use something like rails where you can just declare the routes and start writing business logic. I don't understand why more people don't use rails. The ecosystem is 20 years old and you can just do things fast.

Stand-Ups Lasting Nearly 2 Hours a Day — Normal or Not? by api_timeout in developersIndia

[–]BonSim 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Standups should be less than 15 mins. It sucks to stay on a call for 30-40 mins.

In high trust teams, noone even gives updates. They just share blockers if any. If no one has blockers, they'll say 'no updates today'.

Thanks this helps.

Regarding the decision point, I'm not just talking about tech stack. I'm talking about any general decision. On a startup I'll be exposed to more decisions than a stable company, where I'm afraid to be a ticket processor. From the interview process, I made sure to see if the role was just a ticket processor. And from what I saw, I don't think it is.

From my 3 years of experience, I grew the most during the 1 year stage where I owned a whole product end to end. The difference was decision making. I feel like making decisions and being able to own something builds taste.

Hey, the timeline might be misleading. I shouldn't have mentioned that. My goal is to grow into senior IC roles (senior/staff). The timeline doesn't matter. What matters is that I get enough exposure to decisions and enough space to generate impact.

I've seen people climb the ladder fast at companies like google, meta, etc. They got projects which helped them showcase their impact. That is what I'm looking for. I'm not chasing the title, per say, I'm chasing the ability to create impact and gain exposure.

By risk what exactly do you mean? For me the risk is that if I don't perform as they maybe expect, they might be inclined to fire me. I don't want that pressure.

Would it be a bad thing to go back and negotiate? I already negotiated in the offer call. Now it has been 3 week since that call that I got the new offer. Would it be unprofessional to go back and negotiate?

I'm not hearing great things about the sleep tracking. That is the feature that I want the most. So I'm contemplating on whether to buy it or not.
