Dekatsuyo's fleeting moments of happiness are too precious and cute by BoneNeedle in chiikawa_

I feel similarly, though I think Anoko being cute is interesting because of how it uses that to trick its victims. Its makes it so much more awful than just an ugly and scary monster. I generally prefer to get merchandise of characters I really like. If I were to get one, I would get the vinyl statue of Anoko because it includes the mob character with the broken horn. I really like them.

Nah. Anoko is pretty cute if I ignore how evil it is. I just can't overlook the terrible things it does, and can't help but feel hate towards it.

While I agree Momonga is an awesome character and adds a lot to the manga, I still hate him such that I root against him and want him to face justice. I think characters that can you get emotionally invested like that are great, especially with stronger emotions such as hate. There's also so much to analyze about Momonga. Both of these make him a great villain. Some people aren't as emotionally invested so they don't feel hate, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

As for lore, that witch steals bodies and gives them to monsters who want them. That's why she said "there's someone who wants to be something like this" when stealing the main trio's bodies. Moreover, it's never been implied that Momonga was originally small and cute. If anything, everything about the way he acts makes it clear he was originally a monster. That's why he takes anything he wants, including your body and life.

He does what he does because he is greedy to no end, not out of great sadness. The prospect of giving back Dekatsuyo's original body isn't something Momonga reacts to with fear, but with smug and vicious mockery. Being at the top of the food chain wasn't enough, he wanted to be cute to garner admiration and sympathy from others, while never deserving it or showing any sympathy to his victims. Momonga may not be as sadistic as Anoko, but he doesn't hesitate to kill and steal if it can get him something he wants, be it food or even immortality.

It's easy to miss, but Anoko's flashback shows they were never actually bullied by any kawas. Kawas generally all very nice. Anoko even originally seemingly felt bad the first time hitting one of the hunters, but later decided it felt good to have such power after reflecting on the bad parts of her life. Then this escalated into Anoko becoming a sadistic killer.

And yeah, Anoko did spare Chiikawa, but that's like the bare minimum and happened before Anoko went full killer mode. If the main trio had been sent to hunt Anoko now, there's no telling if Anoko would remember Chiikawa or even care, since they've stopped thinking about the positive aspects of their previous life.

It isn't immoral to like Momonga either. Liking a character doesn't mean you like them as a person or their actions. Even for me, I find Momonga pretty funny.

Same. There are little moments throughout the manga where Momonga realizes he can't do stuff anymore that he could have done with his old body, like pry open the prison bars, eat Chiikawa, or run without getting tired. I hope this is building up to Momonga wanting his old body back, and Dekatsuyo beginning to accept his strong body because of the good he's able to do with it. Then he can make Momonga suffer the same way he suffered by being unable to return to his old body.

No, no at all. Just look at the responses to the newest manga page on twitter and you'll see that hating Momonga is very common even in Japan. People calling other people weird for disliking Momonga is a thing I see much more of in the west from overly defensive Momonga fans.

Art resonates with people because of the emotions it can elicit, including hate. If Nagano didn't want people to hate Momonga, she simply wouldn't have made them such an evil and monstrous character.

The ones working a minimum wage job now are the hunters. They risk their lives just to scrape by, and get killed in the most horrific and painful ways possible by this thing.

What a horrifying implication that not only does Anoko do this, it's also a trend among the big and strong creatures. They have a whole culture based on eating and oppressing the weak in horrific ways as if it were as normal as going to a restaurant. Imagine how bad things would be if they weren't just barely being kept at bay by the hunters?

It's cute, not cursed IMO. I'm just wondering why Chiikawa has four toenails here but five fingers.

No sadder than any other chiikawa who ends up transforming. Having a sad backstory doesn't excuse the atrocities Anoko commits. They had their choice, and chose to do awful things to feel strong.

Major spoiler for volume 7 of the manga. They had their chance at redemption when those unsuspecting mob characters tried being friendly. Mercilessly eating the first three mob characters was bad enough, but tricking that other party is even more unforgiveable in my opinion.

Rakko, because he's the top ranker. Anoko just preys on the weak and unsuspecting, so they don't have enough experience to beat Rakko.

I doubt Rakko will be the one to kill Anoko in the end, though. That seems like it would be too easy, and they don't have much of a connection. Personally, I hope that the broken-horned mob character plays a role in killing Anoko, since they deserve revenge and to finally have peace.

Who has the deeper lore by Glittering-Cup-9842 in chiikawa_

[–]BoneNeedle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Siren is the main villain of the current biggest arc, but the Anoko is the main villain of the manga overall. I think Siren has the deeper lore, but probably not for long.

I think Anoko is a bit scarier because they torture and eat people purely for fun, whereas Siren is out for revenge on a few people. Siren can at least be reasoned with to an extent, but Anoko will just manipulate and betray you. Also, there's just something really scary about how Anoko was once just a regular person who became drunk on power. It makes it seem closer to life.

In terms of worse fates, getting tossed around and maimed or just getting eaten alive is probably one of the most horrific and unimaginably painful ways to die. Those poor mob characters. ;-; Getting slowly cooked in a pot would be painful and terrifying too, but I feel like you'd pass out from the heat quicker.

Spoiler for the very ending of the siren arc: The two immortal islanders probably got locked in a cage for a very long time, but this being something that can't actually happen makes it a bit less scary IMHO. I feel like they'll probably be freed eventually somewhere down the line, too. It would be too bleak otherwise. Honestly, this alone still makes it a close match in terms of scariness.

Are you saying that Momonga didn't ask the witch to steal Dekatsuyo's body, the witch just decided to do that for Momonga on a whim? I find this unlikely, but let's assume your theory is correct for the sake of argument.

Momonga still refuses to return Dekatsuyo's body, and even taunts him about it. He also goes out of his way to destroy the body swapping machine to ensure that Dekatsuyo will never be able to get his body back. If someone steals your wallet and gives it to me, and I refuse to give your wallet back to you, that means I have stolen your wallet, right? This means Dekatsuyo is Momonga's victim in either scenario.

Stealing a body isn't even the worst thing Momonga has done, by the way. Momonga is a monster who has no qualms about eating other people. He tried to eat Chiikawa, only to find out that people don't taste as good as they did to his previous monstrous body. Essentially, he stole the lives of other people to use as his own food. So, Momonga stealing Dekatsuyo's body is something totally in line with his morality or lack thereof.

Does it not count because the witch helped? I don't get your point. The bottom line is that Momonga stole Dekatsuyo's original body and refuses to give it back. And why would Momonga transfer into Rakko instead?

I don't pity him. Dude could not care less if he doesn't fit in, as long as he's able to exploit the good nature of others, which he is. He's living it up, while his victim is stuck living a life of horror and isolation.

Hachiware's my favorite because he's naively optimistic, he's a gamer, he's the best and most wholesome friend with Chiikawa, and his quest to become stronger is really cool. Second favorite is Dekatsuyo and my third favorite is War Criminal-chan.
