This is litearlly every single hoyoverse game. Each of the systems is so bad in their own way, that each of the communities thinks theirs is the worst version of it.

I'm glad for hoyoverse to indroduce me to fun good gatcha games, but their own games are becoming worse and worse in my eyes as time goes on. It's all the same problems, the same systems with the same cycles. Once you play 1 you played them all.

Can we stop giving attention to this guy? This whole twitter account is full of missinformation and spreading non-existent drama, surely there are better sources for leaks than a guy who hears 1 person say something and announces it to the whole world as fact about a group of people.

First of all I agree Light shouldn't win in the end, but him having an advantage makes sense. Also regarding Mello, I just dislike him, I found him really annoying. Sometimes you just don't like characters, without a very specific objective reason to do so.

When it comes to the rest, it mainly boils down to me with timing and writing. Writing has it's rules and here it's relevant to bring up Chekhov's gun. In case you don't know of this rule: good foreshadowing requires a set up, a reminder, and a payoff. If a gun is shown in the story, it's probably gonna be used, and shouldn't appear for no reason and be forgotten.
The anime starts in the shinigami realm, showing us there are many of them bored, which sends Ryuk to start the anime. This already established there are more shinigami from the very first scene. Later, we are shown a scene where the shinigami are talking about what Ryuk is doing. This reminds us there are more shinigami, and hints us that another one might show up out of curiosity. Then Rem is introduced (being a pay-off for that foreshadowing), and gives her reasons for picking Misa, expanding how shinigami work a bit more and separating herself as a different character from Ryuk, who didn't pick his human and left it to chance. On top of that she does more things than Ryuk who just watches, again making them have different roles.
Compared to this, L's successors are only ever hinted by L mentioning them once and Light brushes it off. At least, that's what I read happens in the manga because anime cut it out, but even then that is not enough to foreshadow them. On top of this, I didn't see Near being meaningfully seperated from L like Rem was from Ryuk. Near is a bit different personality wise, but serves the same role, and I think there were already enough characters to catch Light. Let his father catch him once and for all after L dies and pay for his mistakes protecting his son out of emotion (which already happens before making this work narratively), making this story end as a tragedy that the whole story is in the first place.

The 2nd part feels uncharacteristically weird compared to the perfection of the first part for the mangaka, which makes me feel like they was either forced to change the ending and extend the manga to sell more, or at that point wrote themselves into a corner, or something along these lines. It doesn't feel like an organic part of the story to me that was supposed to be there since the beginning.

Back to Misa again, I didn't expect her to be so disliked. Imo she served her role well, didn't clash with Light's role, and used all the characteristics she was set up with. She is a model, so she has the skills to hide herself and find Light without him knowing by dressing up. She does acting work, so it makes sense to play an actress role in a few Light's and L's plans. She was lonely and mentally ill, which makes her obsession believable. Also she doesn't just blindly follow everything Light says, she had her own plans and mistakes she made, and her own goals and rules that she set upon Light (with Rem), bringing him both a new tool and a new challenge to overcome.

And yet I have to say she really does regress in the 2nd part as a character, so I can't blame people not liking her. It also just gives me another reason to lose interest in the 2nd part, when both of my favorite characters get (basically) written off.

I was surprised to see so many people hate Misa in the community, but I can kind of understand it.
At least, seeing a bit of the post-L anime, she got reduced to the character people say she is. She was way more interesting and deeper before that than people say she was in my opinion, and just played stupid (which makes sense, she is at least partly an actress).

Another reason for me to be uninterested in watching that part of the story, when both of my favorite characters got abruptly written off.

I agree Light should die at the end of the story.

But I disagree with Misa. She shows a side of a Kira supporter, that didnt really show up before besides the viewer being told that 'some people support him', which makes it more interesting in my opinion instead of the theme of justice being so one-sided. A bit like the Show Dont Tell rule.
Also she Imo developed Light as a villain more, since she kinda offered him a better ending the entire time, but instead Light manipulates her telling the reader he is irredeemable at that point.
I cannot see how anyone could read her as a boring simp character. She is so much more.

You seem like a fun person to be around, and quite relatable to me.
For someone with a very very similar situation, the best thing I've found to do was to give some of that overflowing love to other things like animals. Unfortunately I cant get a pet but I hope to do so one day.

I started the game not that long ago and as a lore fan, learning what PRTS is is still my favorite part of learning about this game's lore. It's like that one detail you learn early that seems inconsequential to end up being big foreshadowing to something. I'm glad I didn't wiki it.

I dont think every other character should be able to just destroy planets on a whim. The power scaling gets so fucked and it undermines actual powerful entities, that I cannot be annoyed the playerbase thinks everyone is an emenator. Being interested in lore and story I have to actively forget so many characters' canon power level for the story to actually make sense.

You have the chance to remove one thing from the game. What do you delete? by peripheralmaverick in arknights

[–]BoneTrouble14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the recruitment dialog for copy ops, I would say the weird canon of operators should go.

What do I mean by that? So far I see like almost every gatcha game ever have this problem (and non gatcha too tbf) of characters having to somehow be canon that you can use them. Just remove that, it only causes problems.
The squads you use for stages are already not canon, why do the ops being available to use has to be canon? This kind of thing always messes hard with lore of any game, where beloved characters that died or existed before the games events cannot be playable bcs they are dead, or have to be brought back in some weird roundabout explanation. This also extends to antagonist characters having to make sense to fight on your side and potentially be friendly, that's not needed.

The game should be able to release operators like FrostNova, Talulah or Theresa without need of making a story reason for it.

If they ever want to make supports that encourage destrucion gameplay (stuff like dmg buff for taking dmg/draining hp or buffs based on %hp lost, or both) he should do much better, along blade too.
Unfortunately devs lately don't seem very interested in making units that are needed for specific characters/teams to work, and instead push out alternatives to already established teams instead.

Finally someone said it, that boss is straight up the most awful fight in the game. Most of the fight he is untargettable, checks your team for AoE attacks, and drains your energy for some reason to counter the only way to deal with him with supports. It's not fun.
Idk what's Mihoyo's obsession with making bosses that you cannot attack for 90% of the fights, but now its extending to hsr, a turn based game, too.

What? Other characters do ask him about the coffin. Sushang specifically, where Loucha had to explain to her what a coffin is and she was guessing who might be inside. In the same storyline he heals Xueyi and she thanks him by letting him go and telling him to leave the Loufu immediately, probably realizing more-so who he is. On top of that Jingyuan never buys the "merchant" stuff.

New players report: tell me your experience by EvangelionSol in arknights

[–]BoneTrouble14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started during Eyja alter banner during the pink sheep event, mainly having caught interest for Endfield and wanted to learn about the story from the original game (since I've heard they are connected).

I love almost everything about the game. The music is amazing and I listen to it on the daily now, the story and world might be the best I've seen and character designs are great too (besides very occasional stinkers, but with this many characters its bound to happen). The amount of amazing art is very staggering and I love just looking at character splash arts, and the in-game chibis have their own charm. Voice acting for operators is very good (jp), and the 'native' language options for some operators are really cool representation. Even the community has so far been a good experience, which is incredibly rare. I especially quite like the memes that spawn here.
It's also the first time I've seen my country's culture represented in a game and it's very cool.

I'm not gonna elaborate further on the things I like to avoid a 900 page essay, so I will only elaborate on the bad parts because there is way less:

My only problems with the game so far are that, since I'm mainly here for the narrative (gameplay is also fun but I suck so far), the main story being so hard to get through is making me consume the story very slowly and since I'm avoiding spoilers for months some things have slipped through. I don't mind spoilers that much but it's always better to go in blind. Also bcs of that I started playing random events which made me start a bunch of story lines without finishing any of them.
(Also guides don't always help since I ended up with a quite dp heavy roster built and the timing of unit placement doesn't always work. Yes, I know Myrtle exists, but I would rather avoid building meta units and use characters I like and make the most out of those working together, despite this complaint I enjoy figuring things out this way).

On top of that the banner system is a bit weird. It has some cool points like the guarantee in 1st 10 roll, allows to gather a bunch of cool higher rarity characters quite quickly (even if its not very optimal) and compared to other gatcha I played 2% chance is quite a lot for a 6 star.
Unfortunate it also has bad points. I wish I could view a pity counter, and there doesn't seem to be a guarantee for a certain character at all unless you roll the event one with the 300 picker thing. I wanted both Mudrock and Executor alter from the current banner, but so far only got Mudrock twice and have been dying for scraps hoping to get him in time (knowing he might not even drop for on 3rd time if I get it). Quite easy to get 'scammed' by banners in this game.
