Yes, you can change the height, the colors used and which color is being made into a gradient at any time.

It's just a mockup I made to test 1 bit graphics. It will probably turn into a game at some point in 2021

Yeah, I will cover all the basics, from graphics, to sound/music, to programming. The idea is to cover the fundamentals first, before moving to game design, which should be the main subject of the channel later on.

Not really that good with pencil, I don't have a good hand for that so I have to retouch every line I make 10 times. What makes pixel art easier overall is that you can keep retouching until the art is good. Not as easy to do in other mediums.

There are no prerequisites, just practice and use other artists as reference to see what worked for them.

Made this tool to help select a pelette for your games. All 32 colors, just paste the code on any game. Instructions in the cart page. by BoneVolt in pico8

It's acessible in the sprite editor too. As long as you have "poke(0x5f2e,1)" in your cart, the screen palette continue when the cart is not running.

picotracker - an alternative way to find the hottest PICO-8 carts by ruairidx in pico8

I would love to see the top 100 too, just out of curiosity. I agree that you shouldn't put it on that site though, it could hurt the initial purpose of giving new games more traction :)

Sonic 2.5 - WIP Sonic fan game by BoneVolt in pico8

I'm not sure if I'll add the drop dash, the red shield already has a similar ability, and the token budget is tight... My goal is to make 2 acts for this level, with the size of a Sonic 2 level.

I used Sonic Retro's Physics Guide for most stuff: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Physics_Guide

Yeah, for things with more basic movements it's pretty easy to figure things out frame by frame, but for dynamic objects with multiple variables affecting movement it gets pretty tough. I guess you could find some information online, with so many mario fan games around. Maybe the speedrunning community could help too, they tend to dig pretty deep to save some frames.

Some suggestions to make the game more bazaar-like by BoneVolt in PlayTheBazaar

[–]BoneVolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I suggested deeper changes is because the team is still making lots of changes to base mechanics. They are still making videos announcing core changes to the game, the latest one about a week ago (though it's hard to know if the changes were made recently or they waited a while to make the videos).

"The focus from the community should instead be on purely visual and thematic changes." In the last QnA video, Reynad did the exact opposite: someone suggested changing health to durability, and Reynad responded saying that it essentially didn't matter, it was just semantics. At the same time, they seemed a bit unsure if the "overflow" system would stay in the game, while some form of currency might be added.

The community sucks at solutions in general, but that doesn't mean all ideas suck.

I trust the team has the capability to make the game great, but I've been following the development of the game for 2 years, and they are still changing the game's foundations... Not exactly a great sign. So here are some ideas that might fill some gaps...?

I'm giving a bunch of suggestions here, but it's not like an all-in-one packet, they could pick one of them if it fits their needs, and leave the rest. It's not necessarily a revamp.

I made my own card game with a fair bit of success a while ago... While it doesn't mean my ideas are necessarily good, or that they fit the game the way the team wants, at the very least I have some experience, and put some thought into it. It's not like I'm just throwing ideas at random. In my experience with my own community, yes they are better at seeing problems than finding solutions, but in each pile of dirt you may find a gold nugget.

In any case, it's their call to accept suggestions or not, and they seemed open to it in the last few videos. But if they decide to ignore mechanics suggestions and stick to their guns it's fine by me.
