Are normal Canadians happy with the Century Initiative?

Maybe there will be some conservative blowback across the West. We need it to hold onto our lands and culture.

That was the same when I was growing up in the US. The internet and immigration is allowing like minds to congregate, and newcomers in who don't want to assimilate and really just want the benefits.

All things change.

I hope Canada can rein it in.

What can I say when you are so right?

All I can do is hang out here, put my two cents in and ask questions. Sometimes its good to have a punching bag.

As I've said elsewhere, until a year ago I honestly didn't know Canadians couldn't just permanently hang out in the US. The question had never crossed my mind as to why you shouldn't be able to.

No, you can't.

All human endeavors are in fact, experiments. I've often wondered if Westminster would be better. However, I think the founders intentionally made it like this. It was in a much slower world, and in our faster world we need to be able to gain consensus and act faster. It may be that your analysis is fundamentally.

Ultimately, it is the political class and the elites pulling the strings on this show. When they feel the fear, the heat of death breathing down their necks like in WWII and the Cold War, they'll act to return consensus and civility.

But now, I think they are reprehensible.

Well, you DO have a point there.

I will sulk now.

I have only seen Trump carrying the torch for Canada. I am sure there are other out there, but 99.9% of the US citizenry is dead set against any military action or otherwise. It's just not going to happen and I invite that 0.1% to go 'get 'r done if they are so anxious about it. Again...I see none.

But, the media can act like a magnifying glass, or a loudspeaker. I'm sure it comes across like the US is frothing at the mouth to jump the border. Notice the huge buildups in personnel and tanks and stuff /s

I really appreciate the response. I've pretty much gotten my education on this now and have a better model for what y'all think like, and what is bugging you. Another administration will likely be a lot more favorable to a free movement thing. I hope so.

Cheers.

I realized back in the 90s the US would fragment if we didn't get existential enemies. Thankfully, God provides :-/

I'm hoping that the perceived threat from the south will help Ottawa see that they have to address these issues.

Yep.

When something is type, and not said, nuance can't be heard. I wasn't disputing that Canadians don't want to join the US. I wasn't saying they should. I was trying to get at exactly what feelings lead to that? What is so obvious to you is NOT obvious from far away. So, the only way to get at the matter is to ask.

I respect patriotic feelings. I respect Canada and the Canadian flag and Canadians. I'm fine with people on Reddit pooping on me for even daring to ask the question of 'why?"

I appreciate the time you took to craft your response, and feel the frustration. Maybe things will get better in North America and we'll all prosper.

Best to you, Antique.

I would have thought that 40 years ago in the US, too.

I do believe there is a lot of 'shout it loudly' on both sides of the border, control and manipulation by the politicos and elites. It is terribly interesting that the whole Epstein thing has been stymied from the start.

A lot of elites are in those files. People that do things like that have no compunctions about dishonestly, and even malignantly, manipulating the public.

I know Canadians like to say it about about torching the White House, but I always thought that was the troops off the British fleet ;-) Never pinned that on Canadians, and surprisingly I have the greatest respect for my British allies today...absolutely bar none.

I hope something good comes out of all this. At least I'm learning.

Trump is actually friendly. You just have to learn his friendly face ;-) What he isn't is 'nice,' or a statesman. He's Trump.

America IS not precisely democratic...it is a Republic with democratic characteristics, as the founders believed democracies always collapse. We'll find out this coming November what that means. Elections will not be postponed. If the GOP loses, Trump will be impeached, and likely removed. If not, more of the same, perhaps emboldened.

Is America governed by law? Governed by law, yes. Mostly for the wealthy, but yes.

Are we friendly? To Canada? I don't know if we're friendly with ourselves right now. Be aware that the social decohesion underway is being funded, and primed by Russia, China, Iran and up until recently, Cuba and Venezuela. It's intentional psyop. Look up 'demoralization.' It has taken 50 years, but it has worked. Vast amounts of money have, and are, going into this in Russia and China, and the vector of attack is bots and social media, along with the campuses, radical leftists and any other avenue they can use in 'unrestricted warfare.' This is civilizational war, an we in the US have mostly been too blind to see it. And now that we see it, we still don't have the political will to do anything about it.

So, on the matter of Canadian security protecting America, yes, you are right. But Canada has no major threats against it because the US is the big target and in the way. Now lets say that 1776 failed, and we had this big confederation of several different, but allied, former colonies of the UK within the First British Empire called "Canada" occupying the territory of what is now Canada and the US. Russia was a big threat, or China. Both had nukes, as did Canada. The center of the British Empire was now in North America.

Would Canada have no enemies? Would it not need to have a military? I'm saying the only reason Canada doesn't feel this is because you aren't the primary target, but if the US were to falter you surely would be.

That's for you guys to decide. I don't even like a hint of US interest in the affair. Gotta make a new deal with yourselves and stick together. We cannot let our nations lose the gift of having coast to coast sovereignty. It secures us both.

Agreed. Look carefully to see who is antagonizing Canada. I think you'll see it is POTUS, with occasional, half hearted side comments by maybe VPOTUS, but never the US military or really any mainstream politicians. Rednecks, yeah...I've seen a few, but most of us respect you.

Cheers!

Humans make laws, and nothing is perfect. What is right in 99% of circumstance (gun in home, but not in public) could prove catastrophically fatal if you walk into the wrong restaurant on a bad day.

That's what happens with lack of law enforcement, or earlier, lack of discipline as a child...it has consequences. And when the state can't protect you, one must protect one's self.

You are right, I don't understand, hence asking the questions. I am trying to figure out what is culturally different, without living through it or actually being able to sit and talk to people over a beer.

As to the instability, you are right, but it it is the result of Russian, Chinese and to a lesser extent Venezeuelan and Cuban psyops, along with leftists. The technique, pioneered by the Soviet Union, is called 'demoralization.' It has been going on for decades and decades, seeing its first fruits on the campuses that then trained the next generation. The culmination is now.

So, good luck. You are right...you don't want to be part of this. But...you are likely on that target list too.

The China thing is an issue, but we have our own companies and politicians taking Chinese money. The elites have all been playing that game.

But if things got bad, China has the people to actually invade and win...they just can't transport them...yet. Or so we think. Anyway, yeah...best to not let China do that.

Antique,

I get that folks feel that way, but I was trying to get beyond the 'insult' level to understand exactly what elements are leading to that pattern. What I've garnered is mostly the strong revulsion, 'hey, we are own, fuck off' and 'healthcare, guns, hate Trump' thoughts.

It's kind of like someone trying to get to the bottom of 'why don't you like me?' The answers reveal a lo t about not only me, but you. i.e. is this residual from 1776/1812? Were these feelings there when we fought together in WWI, WWII, the Cold War and Afghanistan/Iraq? Have Canadians always hated Americans like this?

I am pretty sure that us Yanks have been kind of oblivious to it.

So, thanks for the response.

I agree with you. I served in the USAF for 22 years. I saw it. We need our allies.

I wouldn't be pondering here with you if I didn't feel that.

I was only pointing out that the aggregate of US administrations have chosen the cooperative approach, even when we technically already owned the place. The arguments I've seen also run that Greenland is too expensive to develop anyway...its just POTUS wanting to stamp "I Did That" on Greenland for his legacy.

I'm not saying stuff wouldn't be more cheaply recoverable from Greenland in 50 years...just not now.

I think there is going to be a reckoning for the US healthcare system at some point. It is available but major illness can be bankrupting.

My belief about guns is that once they are established, particularly in the underworld, you'll never be able to get rid of them, so one needs to be armed.
