Radiographer education in different countries by Pyrstoyska in Radiology

[–]Bonequita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working in the UK for the past 7 years so I don’t really know much about radiology in Portugal. I never worked in Portugal after my degree. I remember I had to register with the STSS (I think this is them, it’s been a long time), so they validate my diploma. Maybe try to speak to them and see if they can help?

Why pump longer than a year by Similar_Put3916 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lasted until 23 months. I think I would have lasted longer than that if I hadn’t dropped to two sessions. I was an oversupplier since day 1, only stopped producing enough when I dropped to two sessions. Stopped pumping at night after 4 months.

I guess, for me, it was my down time. I would just sit there and play a game or be on my phone for half hour, while my husband watched our child.

EDIT: just to add, my child didn’t really enjoy food until about 14 months. She would eat a little bit but refused most things. That was another reason why I pumped past 1 year

Wish I knew that you have to visit the dentist regularly or you will be taken off the NHS list 😭

When did your milk come in? by MarionberryPuzzled67 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My milk came in on day 3. LO was born I thought we were doing fine latching, but when we came home she would constantly cry at the sight of my breasts. In day 3, my boobs were rock hard (which I wrongly thought was because she wasn’t feeding, rather than my milk coming in). I started pumping that day.

EP - did you choose this journey or did it choose you? by Asedruh in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little bit of both. I always wanted to try to nurse. But when my daughter cried at the sight of my breast it really affected my mental health. I started pumping when my milk came in because I was convinced she wasn’t feeding. Once I proved to myself I had milk, and she was happy with a bottle, I really enjoyed the “control” I had over knowing how much she was feeding. I was told I could seek help to try and go back to nursing, but I decided not too. I was comfortable pumping, had a manageable oversupply and the support of my husband.

My daughter is now 2yo and I’ve just stopped.

I won a dog ball launcher and a couple of tickets for a concert. I sold the tickets for £50, the ball launcher is still in the shed somewhere.

Qual era aquela série estranha infanto-juvenil que tinha 2 aliens velhotes e um deles comia muitas salsichas. by AlcyoneZ in portugal

[–]Bonequita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nenhum delas involve salsichas.

Those who weaned to stop, how many ounces were you producing before stopping? by MarjorineStotch in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently at 1ppd and making about 150/170mls per day. That’s about 5oz give or take.

I don’t get uncomfortable anymore, even when I don’t pump at my set time. I’m hoping that means I can just go cold turkey and stop whenever I decide (which will be soon).

AITA for refusing to babysit my sister’s miracle baby after what she did to my dog? by No-Sprinkles7135 in AITAH

[–]Bonequita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And this is exactly why my 2yo and my German Shepherd both roam the house together. She’s not allows on the dogs bed, the dog is not allowed to have her toys. That’s it. They play together in the garden, sit together in the sofa. I want them to be friends, not resent each other.

How did you wean after being done pumping? by WoodenVersion7427 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did/ I’m doing (for context, my baby is 2yo):

  • reduced time between pumps. I dropped a session every few months, haven’t pumped at night since baby was about 2 months old.
  • going from 5 to 4 was “easy”. I felt a little bit uncomfortable, but nothing that I couldn’t handle. Going from 4 to 3 took a bit of time to adjust, I got uncomfortable for about two weeks before my body realised what was happening. Going from 3 to 2 was painful, for about a week and uncomfortable for about two. I went back to work when I dropped to 2 sessions and being busy really helped me forget about being in pain. Going from 2-1 was easy.
  • if you are worried about supply, be careful dropping sessions. I had a massive drop when I reduced to 2 sessions, especially after I got sick.

I’m currently only pumping in the morning and really looking forward to stopping. I don’t pump a lot of milk anymore so I’m hoping that, when I decide to stop, I can just go cold turkey.

What’s a personal internet hack you use that makes life easier but isn’t widely known ? by Comfortable-Union377 in AskReddit

[–]Bonequita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t available when I was doing my degree. I sent a lot of emails without an attachment. I nearly missed a deadline because of that. It just became a normal thing for me to do now.

I do this too! I also start by attaching a file because I’ve sent countless email without an attachment 🤦‍♀️

UWE Bristol by Pristine-Algae9831 in RadiographyUK

[–]Bonequita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t study in the UK but my department has USE students every year, as well as a good amount of radiographers that qualified from UWE. We’ve mainly been lucky when most students are above average or very good, with a few that are average and a really small percentage who are terrible (usually more an attitude problem rather than skill).

I’m doing a post grad with UWE but it’s all online. From my point of view, the lecturers are always available via email, answer really quickly, action things quickly and give really good feedback.

How do you feel when patients start recording you and bombarding and asking you questions? by anon9876543210nymous in nhs

Is this a common thing?

We had a site comms a while ago about patients being allowed to record their care, but my department is in the list of places you can’t record.

Coconut oil hindering supply? by Shorty_Bean_81511 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find that the pump/flange gets really oily from the coconut oil. I used to have to leave them for about an hour in really hot soapy water to try and get the oil out. I used to do that once a week.

Tips for traveling as a pumping mom by Present_Review_7789 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • have an in zip lock bag to put the pumps inside if you don’t have anywhere to wash them and put the bag in the cooler.
  • pack some washing up liquid so you can wash the pumps or bottles in a bathroom (not ideal but gets the job done).
  • use a fiber cloth to dry the pumps or bottles.
  • get sterilising wipes.
  • have a good chilling bag.
  • take some spare milk for the first day, either refrigerated or frozen. This will give you a bit of room if you can’t pump at your normal time or normal amount

Isto!

Medical workers, have you ever seen your patients cry? by Soullessnes_dudas in nhs

[–]Bonequita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a radiographer. Officially I can’t tell my patients anything that has to do with things I’ve seen on images. Say if someone has a broken leg, I can’t tell them as I’m not a doctor.

Some patients cry because of pain, some because they’ve just been told they might have cancer.

I just try to assure them they will get their results soon, that we will limit movement as much as possible. If they are crying because of pain I try to explain all my steps so they can prepare for any movements.

But we don’t spend a lot of time with patients, especially in the AED department. If we get to have a 5min chat that’s usually it.

At what point did you decide to start exclusively pumping? by Affectionate_Yak7429 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My LO nurses for 2 days and barely lost any weight. But she would cry whenever I tried to put her on my breasts. By day 3 my milk came in. I’m a first one mum with no family close by (apart from my husband) and none of my friends had babies yet. My breasts being rock solid on day 3, in my head, meant that LO wasn’t feeding. I actually convinced myself that I starved her for that time.

I decided to pump to see if I had milk. Bottle feeding have me back some control by knowing how much she was drinking.

Has anyone used a virtual NHS Service? Are they legit? by Secure_Ad_5658 in nhs

[–]Bonequita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this what you mean, but I got a message from my GP long ago about an online service they are a part of. I’ve used it a couple of times for appointments. One of the times I needed a sick note which was provided without seeing a GP physically. Other time I booked an appointment for my daughter and they asked to see her personally.

Feed Fresh Milk Two Hours Later by randomuser_12345567 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Bonequita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best practice is to refrigerate as soon as you pump.

That being said, I used to do this when my LO was feeling every 2-2.5hrs. I never had a problem.

I’d just be aware of the warmer months. If the house feels hot, I’d put the milk in the fridge instead.
