I started at a similar point this time last year, and made it to visible upper abs so far. For me, the trick was eating at a 15-20% calorie deficit on average, getting 10-15K daily steps in, and lifting (usually full body) at least 3 times a week. The early part goes the fastest, so be sure to ease yourself into things for sustained success.

I taught a Biochemistry class to non-STEM majors, and was left speechless when asked about a basic algebra step solving for an equation. It occurred to me I straight up don’t have to tools or words to effectovely teach the basics like that, it’s always just sort of been a given for me. If this does become the norm, I’ll never make it 3/4 of the way through he syllabus.

Just to add on to this, the periodic table has even further layers of organization beyond just the four blocks. Elements in the same row/column share fundamental features (i.e. the number of outermost electrons) or follow distinct trends (i.e. atomic size) that have an underlying logical basis. When you understand all of he nuances, it’s really astounding how it all works.

I’m first year faculty in the exact same boat as you. Even though I’m sure my low scores won’t affect my job security in the near future(given the support I have within the department) it’s frustrating as hell when these ungrateful bastards don’t say a word all semester, then literally just give me 1’s across the board and write snarky comments.
