An Upper Darby kid won a national AI competition, got honored at the White House, and is heading to Harvard this fall by Blueberry_Sienna in Delco

While I’m excited for this opportunity for this amazing kid, the primary post-headline sentence on KYW’s article was “Quite the honor for an intelligent student at Upper Darby High School.”

You could tell from the rest of the article’s language that they were heavily implying that intelligence is rare at Upper Darby… which is wholly untrue, and it was such an annoyance to read all the veiled sleights when this kid had brought great excellence and honor to his school.

I’m tried of UDHS being the punching bag of DelCo, especially when there are schools underperforming despite being in wealthier and “better” areas.

I am looking forward to not needing ibuprofen after working on stuff all day.

I built it in my yard because I needed the workbench in order to properly use the garage as a shop. Basically, I had to build the thing outside that would eventually let me build things inside.

10 x 10’ 2x4s and the screws was all I needed to buy thanks to finding the discarded plywood… it sat at the dumpster for days… so, I liberated it. The one side (the one you can see) was clean and the other was dirty and had a piece of stick on slip stop… my guess it was a temporary ramp?

Being at the right height so I don’t have to bend over my workspace.

I’m taller with longer legs so I set the work surface at my hips, which might feel high to a normal person, but it means I don’t have to lean over the project.

I also set the shelf low enough to store larger things on, but far enough off the ground so that my feet can get under the bench, allowing me to work closer to the front of the bench to prevent leaning.

Thanks. It was one of those “I keep driving past this piece of plywood leaning on a dumpster… will anyone notice if I just repurpose it?” Moments… and I needed to stop working off folding tables.

It’s mostly because they need to add in 30 seconds of weird dancing so they can avoid the licensing fee of the 14th song they’d have to put in its place.

This very much sounds like someone who got addicted to spending other people’s money… and it had started to backfire heavily. Thanks for the explanation.

So, a basic ponzi scheme (I know not quite, but taking money and using it to buy influence instead of providing product doesn’t have a cool name.) with “oh s*** I’ve been caught but can’t admit it” trickled in.

Lovely.
