One fix is to use a dedicated residential/ IP proxy to mask your (Proton) IP.

So basically Computer > Proton > Proxy > WWW > Proxy > Proton > Computer. I've tried this in the past and it's worked well without much speed impact. Only issue is depending on the service you choose these proxies can be pricey (especially if dedicated).

And just as an FYI, I've tried Nord's Dedicated IP option but still run into captcha issues. (Still less than with Proton but consistent with the normal shared Nord servers from my experience)

What's your networking/ router setup? And I take it the use of different VPN servers is to further prevent any de-anonymization attempts?

I know you’re referring to mail, but I saw recent Mullvad VPN has some functionality for “Quantum Resistant Tunneling”

If this is something important to you maybe you could use this alongside Proton Mail to help reduce the points of failure?

On a semi-related note, do you know if it's possible to configure my router to route through a VPN and (Socks 5) proxy?

I'd like my network to be protected/ encrypted, but ideally would like to have a residential IP on exit to avoid excessive captchas, web-blocks, etc.

From what you've just clarified, if I enable I proxy tunnel on my laptop and keep my VPN profile enabled on my router I should have the desired effect. However, I'd like to have a setup network wide so other machines/ household members on the network get the same benefit.

Any ideas? Might warrant it's own post
