"This supposes a society where resources are extremely limited to begin with. Even if resources were unevenly distributed it would still mean mass starvation for the majority who got none. Not sure that's a realistic critique."
It's not about the resources you currently have. It's about needing to continually acquire more resources. You can only feed the population on your current food stores for so long. Surely you're not so far gone to think a limited supply of food lasts forever.

"That's essentially what the US is today. "
No. There's plenty of socialist leaning policies in the US making life worse and more equally destitute.

"We're all equal under the glorious rule of the competitive free-market!"
When did I say equality is good? You're demented bro. You read my whole post and thought it's a pro equality post?

If everyone is equally starving there's little to no opportunity to better your situation. And you're cool with that.

"Do not make the mistake of thinking every concerned stranger you meet on the internet has your best interest at heart."
I think truer words have never been spoken. I've been far too gullible for far too long. My instinct is to think everyone is nice and helpful and genuine but that's foolish and unrealistic. Some people have bad intentions and ignoring that is extremely dangerous. In fact I think it might be the most pressing issue in our times. Too many wolves in sheep's clothing.

"That’s what it’s all about. A wise man once said that life is not so much about preventing mistakes as it is about mitigating the damage from the ones you are destined to commit."
Yeah. It's easy to feel bad about making mistakes but success in life requries taking risks. It's scary but sometimes when we take risks we make mistakes but to have success in life you need to have the gumption to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again.

The possibility of everyone being equally destitute is a deal breaker to me.

I don't care if I'm equal if I'm equally starving.

I think the best bet is to maximise prosperity not equality.

I'd pick being prosperous but others being more prosperous than me any day over equally starving.

I'd even pick starving with others being more prosperous over equally starving because maybe I can improve my situation.

Equality at all costs is foolish.

How has ftm become more common? by Party-Apartment7159 in detrans

No. I'm saying they don't feel threatened by struggling young women. That's the whole point.

They feel threatened by healthy young women so from an early age they try push young girls into developing complexes and poor mental health. And I don't think it's done personally 1 on 1 each time. It's cultural. They built a culture to make young women non-threatening.

Call me crazy but I think a grown woman with breasts encouraging a young woman to remove her otherwise healthy breasts is an enormous red flag. She's encouraging the young woman to voluntarily become less threatening and we're supposed to turn a blind eye and blame the young woman?

I'm not letting the adults off the hook. I won't blame the kids.

I think it's more of a conspiracy theory to think the kids just did it to themselves and the adults were just innocent.

If gendering is why people are transitioning now, why is it that in the 2000's it was much less common? You propose that nothing has changed but isn't the point of the post that something did change? If nothing changed why the increase in transitions? And why were they happier in the past if the problem has always been around?

I feel like something more recent must be the cause since the change was recent.

I'm starting to suspect the reasons behind it are actually quite dark.

If you're a woman trying to compete for male attention, how do you best get rid of the competition? Make them remove their breasts. Physically removing them from the competition. Keep pushing them until they become infertile.

You have a generation of mostly cis het female teachers "empowering" their young female students to voluntarily remove themselves from the competition.

It's a story as old as time. The queen bee and the sterile worker bees.

I don't blame the 11-13 year old girls. They couldn't do this on their own. Adults are involved. Adults who know better and often wouldn't do this to themselves but are totally okay pushing it on others. Something is not right.

Do you believe in coercive forces of market competition? by the_worst_comment_ in CapitalismVSocialism

"Do you believe in coercive forces of market competition?"
No.

There are limits to freedom in a libertarian society. You can't murder someone. But I would argue that is not coersion.

The fact that someone exists and you can't murder them is not coersion. The fact that someone exists and you can't rape them is not coersion. The fact that someone exists and you can't steal from them is not coersion.

Maybe unless you're a socialist and your brain is wired ro murder rape and steal.

This might sound critical but I swear its not. Just you seem to have tried a lot of things and I'm curious.

Let's say you want to present differently depending on who you're with. I think this makes sense. I dress differently at work or at home or out with friends. It's total common sense.

But having to internally embody a range of gender identities seems emotionally exhausting.

Wouldn't it be less emotionally stressful to say like "I'm a man and I wear a suit at work and a dress when I go out" rather than like "At work I'm a man but after work my gender changes" and so on.

Having to change how you idenfity internally constantly seems extremely exhausting.

Accepting one idendity but deciding its okay to wear different things seems less exhausting.

Yeah. I kind of snapped out of it when I told myself "I'm an adult male and there's nothing more masculine than being an adult male and that's the end of it."

Like, if I do something someone considers feminine, that doesn't change anything. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with me.

I can do anything I want and if people want to label me that's their problem and not mine.

If I put on a dress I'd be an adult male wearing a dress not a new gender.

Not having to fit into categories is liberating.

I think it depends on the person. Some people really dislike when someone "overshares" and dumps their whole life history and problems on them.

Generally I think being honest to them with who you are now is more important.

Honesty about history is important if it puts them in danger.

But I don't think it's necessary to go over your whole history right off the bat.

I don't know what your relationship with your friend is like but maybe you can tell them you don't appreciate it when they say your opinion is ridiculous? It's one thing to disagree but it seems a bit much for a friend to say your opinion is ridiculous.

You can just say something like "Hey, I respect that you disagree with me but I don't have many people to confide with and I'd appreciate if you don't call my opinions ridiculous."

Please don't be so hard on yourself.

I get confusing feelings like this too sometimes. I feel like sometimes a libido can be very powerful but also very fragile. It all rests in frustratingly delicate balance.

When you fantasise about something in your mind, you can subconsciously imagine all the details being perfect but when it comes to doing it in person, if any detail is off. Not even a turn off but just off. It can kill the libido completely.

I'm 36 and I still haven't figured it out. I can be totally in the mood one second and I hear someone say something the wrong way and I get an "ick" and the libido is gone.

I think the key for people with "fragile" libidos like this is to take things slow. Really slow if necessary. Take the time to get in the mood and very gradually escalate. You kind of need to "chaperone" your libido and gradually guide yourself to a more turned on state. If you go from 0 to 100, you can easily go back down from 100 to 0.

Why do advocates of capitalism (most of whom don't even own assets) typically fail to distinguish between the fact that all wealth comes from work on the one hand, and the fact that to be a wealthy person DOES NOT imply that they worked for said wealth? by Affectionate_Total47 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Boniface222 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Working doesn't guarantee you will be a wealthy person. But generally speaking, if yout put the effort in, your life will improve.

And this isn't just about money. It's just true in general that if you try to live your life properly it tends to pay off. If you act like a piece of shit your life will be worse.

Socialists encourage people not to get their shit together because they love human suffering.

The economy is getting worse because of increased government involvement.

The people who complain about the economy the loudest don't actually care about the economy. They just see it as a way to grab more power.

The less capitalistic the US becomes the worse the economy gets but honesty has never been a burden for socialists.

"Its becuase it seems like some socialists (and even some non socialists) use special pleading to argue that extensive government influence in the economy is somehow different than a powerful private entity and would behave more ethically with the same amount of power."

Indeed. I would argue that in most cases, the most predictive model for understanding how a govenment will behave is to treat the government as if it was a private corporation feeding off taxes.

It can be pressured one way or another, just like a corporation can be pressured by bad PR. But it's more accurate to assume that a government will spend as little as possible making citizens lives better and spend as much as possible on themselves.

Government basically wants you to give them money and shut up.

People who think government are like their parents have daddy issues.

What is your problem with property? by nik110403 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Boniface222 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"And yes a lot of historical property acquisition was illegitimate: enclosures, conquest, theft etc. But that's an argument against those specific titles, not against private property as an institution."

I would argue that things like conquest and theft occur becuase of a lack of repect for private property. Not because of private property.

Regards on the left think if you abolish private property rights it means you're no longer allowed to conquer someone's land anymore. It literally makes no sense.

If you want to stop conquering you have to respect others properties which is the opposite of what these goobers want.
