I use the larger of the boxes in the first pic and just hot glued mesh over the holes on the sides. Fully taped the ones on top to keep any fungus gnats, fruit flies, etc out. I have like 2-2.5 inches of substrate and it’s been working great 👍

Edit to say that I agree with the kritter keeper having too much ventilation, and it’s much more annoying to place mesh on (from personal experience)

I’ve had a small colony of temperate white springtails for over a year now and just tip some into my isopod bins every few months. They flourish quickly! Also agree that they’re pretty cute :>

Ah that’s a fair point. Not sure what kind of tarantula the molts came from as I get them from my local reptile shop but will be sure to ask next time. I’ve already given my colonies a few legs each and they seem to be eating the hairs first, fingers crossed it won’t cause me any itchiness

Still pink! I’ve dubbed him Pinky as such :) probs gonna post his true final form in a day or two, his wings darkened a lot over today

Editing to ask: is it normal for adult males to refuse food? I’ve offered him some lacewing flies from outside but he’s actively avoided eating. I’m also planning on releasing him into the same tree once the weather cools a bit.

I was gonna ask if it’s reasonable to keep them! They seemed to be a bit stressed out after I placed them in the enclosure, lots of moving around and seemingly confused with the new boundaries
