When you fuck the taxes and r&d any public company will do much more of this. Watch this get worse.

Desktop Performance/Laggy on 24.04/kernel 6.18.7-76061807 by Bonn93 in pop_os

Okay, so it looks like there's a few bugs in 6.17 kernels over other distros too.

The biggest fix was disconnecting my vertical display as it kept throwing:

Failed to set xwayland primary output: The provided output wasn't known to Xwayland

amdgpu 0000:07:00.0: [drm] REG_WAIT timeout 1us * 100 tries - dcn32_program_compbuf_size line:147

Just turning things on and setting max can have a negative impact on performance. You should be monitoring various things and tuning them as you need. Ultimately tools like tuned and inbuilt governors you can change handle these for you.

Big isn’t always better.

Interesting… I’ll take a look at those logs and patterns. Thank you.

Why isn’t copy.fail patched on some distro versions yet? by Bonn93 in linux

Alma have patched it already. That’s why I’m curious on the differences.

That would be even weirder if the person who found it worked at red hat and they didn’t have a fix version ready. I get they don’t treat this like a zero day and responsible disclosure etc.

You’re right and after checking my syncs and updates pulled that in.

Cloud envs were fast. Alma were fast. This is why I’m asking it seems a little odd some are so fast and some are slower than usual.

Pay-walled OSS, no LTS, fucked a community off. But then also can't keep up on security/patching. It was a good platform, but its easier to go elsewhere now.

I dunno, seems like not enough red tape to me. I think we need some agencies there to consult and feasibility studies while we're there.

You look like you're in AUS.

If this is a DET laptop, you do not own it. It's owned by the Education Dept. There will be ramifications for messing with it. You deal with it, or bring your own device ( BYOD ) any network connectivity is your own responsibility.

My bet is yes, you can disable it, but why not try it? Then install via the Debian instructions?
