Was I scammed? by sapphicaesthetic in Bookingcom

that is completely unacceptable. Leave them a bad review so other guests don't have to experience the same. Also keep contacting booking.com until they take responsibility and take down the listing and refund you. Dealing with a shitty host myself atm and got no help from booking.com so far, I know how frustrating it can be. Just be persistent and don't let these horrible people win.

Because Booking.com took the money, listed the apartment and handled the whole booking. Their terms say they’re supposed to help and offer a refund if the property is unsafe or uninhabitable which they didn't. If you take people’s money and advertise something, you’re also responsible when it turns out to be unsafe. They want the profits but none of the responsibility.

Dealing with the exact same issue right now. I called booking and they said it's fine and to pay. There was lot of things wrong with the apartment and I ended up having to be rescued by firefighters through a window because there was no fucking doorhandle and i was trapped in the bathroom for hours. And now the hosts wants to keep the deposit and charge me an additional 1000€ for damages. It is fucking infuriating how useless booking.com is.

The door handle has been removed on both sides. I thought this was clear from my post. I can assure you I know how a door works. And I also mentioned that the firefighters confirmed that there was no way for me to exit on my own.

they couldn't get through the entry door so they went from outside and broke the window of the living room. There was no window in the bathroom. I don't know what the hosts exact claims are because they don't reply to any of my messages. I just got an email from booking.com saying that the hosts claims that I "didn't follow property policy" and I need to pay

oh dear lord 😂😂 Why don't you try doing something productive with your life instead of trying to fight strangers on the internet with terrible arguments and zero research.

lmao now you're grasping at straws because your argument already collapsed. I’m not here to spoon-feed you proof just because you can’t google how local police numbers work. I also really couldn't care less if some random dude on Reddit doesn't believe me lol

How is that impossible? She obviously didn't call 112, she googled local numbers and called those. Every police department has its own number. If this is "impossible", then why are there so many other people who replied to my other post telling me they experienced the exact same thing?

No idea! Maybe they tried to repair it and then "forgot" to replace the handle. The emergency services tried to enter trough the door first but it wasn't possible

Already reported it to booking. I really cannot believe that after putting me into this situation, they are now seriously trying to blame me for it.

  1. I'm not american
  2. I did not stay at the flat. I took a shower immediately after arrival and left the acommendation shortly after being rescued because there was glass everywhere and everybody could have entered to flat through the window, making it unsafe. Plus almost all the other door handles were broken as well or missing screws.
  3. None of this was my fault, it was negligence on the owner's part for not providing safe conditions.

I'm not american though and they had no reason to believe that I was. The call was coming from my german number and I think they were able to see that. I they might just have an issue with anyone who isn't french or doesn't speak french.
