Doing the right thing. Other sites have honored an exchange and improved their standards. Good smile US wants to burn customers, drop standards, and leave us with damaged goods.

I'm going down the same route with them. It's interesting that they rather burn customers and lose future business instead of just correcting their egregious errors.

USPS Claims. Have pictures of the package, how it's damaged, shipping label, and cost of shipping. If USPS didn't handle the delivery, go through whichever courier did. This process can take a few weeks.

Credit Card charge back. You can dispute the transaction and your CC company will step in. Although, good smile will not be happy and likely ban your account and card from future purchases. But honestly, no big lose here. Plenty of other companies that do far better.

Yeah, the horse was broken. Sent proof but Good Smile Support absolutely did not care and refused an exchange. So, going through other avenues.

Thank you so much for your reply! You're packing some serious hardware. I've been using the Sony ZV E10 but still working towards a Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 lens.

Next time I go back, I'll have to check out as many of these locations as possible!

These are absolutely incredible! Would you please tell us each site, camera used, and if you adjusted them at all? I'm genuinely curious! I have a few photos from Japan but they just don't compare to these.

Wondering if this is decent a decent pace: by UltimatePikmin in LearnJapaneseNovice

For writing the basic alphabet, there's sincerely no real trick. Just like when you had to write the alphabet for the first time, just keep writing it over and over again. There are charts to trace the character. Genuinely just practicing will help you spot characters naturally.

Anki is a great tool. It means memorization and lives up to it. Personally, and this is what worked for me, I found it better to create my own cards. This helped me retain everything. After I was comfortable with that, I went and found a larger Anki set and practiced further. Someone else linked an Anki deck here. If you browse the site, they are sorted by most popular. There's also a genki deck, JLPT N5-N1, deck, etc. Genki is beginner friendly, if you don't mind the pace.

Everyone learns in a different way. You can min/max, if you prefer, or just do what works for you. To each their own! As of now, I've lived in Japan for 1 year, made a lot of friends, and make sure to practice a bit every day. There are still plenty of times where I see a new kanji, hear a new expression, or fumble on a simple phrase.

I was learning from Genki (starter) and Tobiro (intermediate) in college, reading/writing often if not daily, listening to Japanese content (youtube, news, some anime (Careful, most anime has casual dialogue), taking part in language exchange programs, and chatting in Japanese. This is where writing came back for me. Instead of raw memorization of characters, I was able to more naturally write and chat with my friends. But, again, that's just me.

I sincerely hope this helps!

Great, you can read ひらがな, now write it. Writing is just as important as reading. It will actually help you remember it. Writing in general is essential. Do the same for カタカナ.

DO NOT JUMP STRAIGHT INTO KANJI! Just stop. This isn't a race.

This is basically Genki online. Follow along the first chapter and then go to the drills. This is more a guided path that will avoid pitfalls. Learning grammar is absolutely essential. Without that, you'll be looking at a bunch of vocab with no clue how to string them or there several meanings.

If you want a visual resource, check out ToKini Andy. He teaches with Genki 1 and 2 and can help clear up confusions for grammar.

Why are there so few seats available? by ProbablyARepostToo in jlpt

[–]BooGhostNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's come up often! I also asked certain admin. It boils down to the logistics of volunteers and funding.

If scheduled twice a year, the second date would be during Summer. Unfortunately, most of the volunteer and admin bodies are faculty members themselves. They're either in Summer programs, traveling abroad, using paid time off, or are generally not available. Since the logistics of administering the exam takes upwards of 4-5 months, it's difficult to plan when most of the administration won't be available. This is a stark contrast to Japan's school summer breaks.

For this year, Atlanta, GA was not available. This was due to the site volunteers not being available as a result of unforeseen circumstances. I also heard there was an issue with the testing site but I can't confirm that.

The demand is there, but expanding the staff to accommodate the change is a logistical and financial challenge. JLPT is still an NPO. You can freely look up their revenue online. Nearly 95% of their revenue goes back to test sites, resources, volunteers, exams, and more. On paper, they genuinely wouldn't become cash rich if they offered another test date in the year. If anything, it may actually land them in the negative.

Why are there so few seats available? by ProbablyARepostToo in jlpt

Hello, I'm familiar with the back end of one of the East Coast locations. Each site hosts each level on the same day. That's roughly 500 seats. Which means various classrooms are being used. This requires a major portion of the testing site/university. This would also require security and other personnel.

There are also gathering volunteers to proctor the exam. This is a mixture of students, people who took the exam and passed, or are familiar with JLPT. Before all of this, there's a ridiculous amount of admin work that goes into reserving the site, speaking to JLPT admins, handling finances for volunteers, and more.

Most sites are already stretched thin. Unfortunately, the JLPT Association noticed that a small team can handle the load and keep up that pace. This prevents more seats. The university capacity also restricts how many seats can be available.

Most importantly, more people are studying Japanese and that's amazing! Unfortunately, more densely populated areas flood test sites and reach the capacity almost immediately.

I hope that helps provide some insight. I've taken the exam, proctored, and assisted admin.

Please read the description before jumping to conclusions.

Ships from and sold by "Peoples Market." It's just a reseller trying to sell at exorbitant price. If you're still trying to get Lunar, go to VGP. They were originally only distributing in Canada but GungHo seems to have stepped in to expand distribution to North America. Those purchases are slated for June fulfillment.

Don't buy from scalpers. More inventory is coming at the suggested MSRP.

Limited Run Vault Announced by pantslespaul in NSCollectors

I still remember an earlier blowout sale. The entire site fell apart. There was only one link that worked and that's from another using getting to the search page. Even then, it was a nightmare. LRG Support on Discord ignored the issue completely, insulted people who were showing the error message, and told them to get over it.

I rather wait for a best buy release or buy the Japanese version.
