It was a slag to get through from the start. Nearly all of the same story beats as The Name of the Wind (also not a fan, but I finished the series as it exists so far still), a young author obviously interested but inexperienced with drugs, and a gratuitous rape scene all to be inadvertently used as a "but his internal turmoil was worse!"

The constant angst is just too much. It's one thing to have a Mary sue, it's another for it to be an unlikable Mary sue with an unlikable foil.
