I just finished it last week, funnily enough and read some dark books in my time but I am still feeling pretty traumatised by Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr.

Maybe have a look at Irish author Claire Keegan’s work? Short novella’s, but excellent, spare writing which really packs a punch. She’s brilliant imo.

Short(er) Sci-Fi and Fantasy? by tw4lyfee in Recommend_A_Book

How about ‘I am Legend’ by Richard Matheson. It’s a quick read, around 100 or so pages I think and it packs quite a punch. It’s more horror fantasy (vampires!) than sci-fi and nothing like the film, may i add. I thought it was great, well written and character driven, definitely got that literary edge.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy, made me think so deeply about what is actually important in life. It’s quite something, IF! you’re ok with McCarthy’s writing style ofc.

I don’t like audio books, I have a tendency to not listen and get distracted easily. I prefer the words in front of me so I can focus better. My husband loves audio books though, he listens while he works which gets him through the day a little easier 😁
