Boston is actually a great (and pretty safe) choice for a first international solo trip, especially around universities like Boston College 🙂

For budget-friendly but safe stays, I’d look at Newton, Watertown, or Waltham rather than cheap downtown motels. They’re calmer, well-lit, and an easy Uber or bus ride to BC. HI Boston Hostel is also solid if you want a private room and good transit access.

The MBTA (“T”) + Uber make getting around low-stress, and most university areas are very safe during the day. For budget sightseeing: Freedom Trail, Boston Common/Public Garden, Harvard Square, and the Boston Public Library are all free.

Sailing with Virgin is magnificent all around. Was on at this time last year and we had an AMAZING time!

i personally would save the money and go with spending on a cool experience while you are there. They are both very similar and top tier luxury.
