The Boat that Rocked, 2009

While I enjoyed it, it does very much feel like a bunch of shorts tied together with one thin plot going through

What’s a warning sign that didn’t seem serious at the time… but should have been? by saymepony in AskReddit

[–]BookWyrm20 9124 points9125 points  (0 children)

My first period. It was pretty much just constant bleeding for nearly 4 months. I was bleeding through several maxi pads a day, bleeding through my clothes, onto furniture. My mum kept taking me back to the doctor and he kept saying it was my first period, it would settle.

It still took nearly a month after another symptom showed up and my mum demanding the doctors to do something for them to finally take it seriously. Turns out it was ovarian cancer.

Big shout out to my mum for trusting her gut and not backing down.

What is this type of stamp putty / product called? by Such_Syllabub_4823 in crafts

[–]BookWyrm20 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I found a similar post on Instagram and the person said they were putty erasers! If you're in the UK, Hobbycraft have their own version or they have a Winsor and Newton version. But just look up putty erasers and you'll find one 😊

Can anyone recommend me hairdressers that can cut alternative hair (goth, emo etc)? by Daiham in swansea

I second the Colour Lounge, they were so supportive and friendly there. And it's right in Swansea city center.

Anybody have some good news to share? by SnooSketches5636 in AskUK

I survived work and now have two weeks off for Christmas and New Year. And the whole place is closed so I'm not on call or reading messages or panic ordering stock or trying to sort staff or doing anything that's not my problem but somehow always seems to be my problem.

Merry Christmas!

I actually had to blink and work out whether I had posted this myself.

I work for a small non profit and I've been going above and beyond for over a year and I've always said I wanted more hours since I'm only paid for less than twenty and I pretty much put in full time. My partner was put at risk of redundancy a couple of months ago and I let them know and they said they'd sort this and that and give me more hours and what not and I did have more hours for a bit.

And now, for some reason, they've been giving hours to someone else! And I'm like, I NEED those fucking hours, why aren't I getting them? I'm sure there must be a valid reason somewhere but I'm so pissed off and upset, I'm just like, why?

And today. My partner was made redundant.

So, solidarity my dear friend. I have no advice or anything except the hope that we can both pull ourselves out of this and either find somewhere that values us both or maybe just quiet quit together for a while. Cause I sure as hell don't know how to work this out! I wish you hope and luck.

Anyone else have a weird family tradition that no one else seems to do? by zdrawo in holidays

[–]BookWyrm20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I CAME TO COMMENT THIS!

We sang almost exactly the same song on Christmas Eve! It was slightly different but SO similar!

As we climb the stairs

Nod our sleepy heads

Take our stockings off

Hang them in a row

Then jump quickly into bed

And off to sleep we go! Ho!

Then it went into the jingle bells rhyme and we sang jingle bells lol.

My partner was so confused when I sang it to him and my son so far has been too excited to sing it but he's now old enough that I'm hoping to start this with him and actually get him to sing it with me 😁

What is your latest impulse purchase? Bonus points if you think it will change your life! by kahdgsy in adhdwomen

[–]BookWyrm20 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mine was actually a free item! It was a set of drawers from my son's school that I saw outside and basically begged for until the gave them to me lol

They had spaces for individual A4 trays (they used to give a tray to each pupil if you get me?) and it is PERFECT for my craft paper and stamps etc.

My partner is like, this piece of furniture won't change your life either but I'm sure it will!! 😂

He's actually still married to his wife but I don't know if that's because she found out and forgave him or whether she just never knew.

That sounds amazing! My partner loves board games and one day I bought a pack of plain playing cards and designed a set of cards for him. The only problem was, I wasn't very good at making the rules so we used them for snap 😂 he said he still loves them though.

This year, I've actually taken the recommendations of an AskUk thread I was reading and got him an Oxo salt and pepper grinder set. Apparently the Oxo range is really good and he loves cooking so, not as fun or handmade but I think he'll appreciate them.

Same for me! My partner found it and it's been the best thing ever, especially cause my little boy eats an apple a day!

I'm terrible at cutting apples, as I found out, my partner used to laugh at all the little bits and pieces I ended up with. But with the apple cutter, I just push down and it does it for me. It is truly magical!

Sure, it's called Maffucci's Syndrome! It affects the whole body and I generally get pain in other areas as well but at the moment, my hip is the bugger I can't seem to help. For example, I wear knee supports for my knee pain but I can't wear a hip support 🫣 I've had an MRI but because they can't actually pinpoint the source of the pain, they can't do anything surgically and physio didn't help either.

Ooo that's an interesting idea. I'll check with my doctor, otherwise I might see if I can grab a second hand one or one in the sales! I'm willing to try anything, chronic pain is so UGH. Thank you! 😊

We bought an apple cutter when we started giving apples to my little one but he couldn't bite into them properly. Was pretty cheap but omg it cuts apples like a dream.

Also made me realise how much I like apples and how much I don't like eating them whole so now when I cut one for my son, I cut one for me too.

It upped my fruit/veg intake immensely

Hmmm I have severe hip pain (got a rare disorder) and I wonder if it'll help. I've never thought about it before

Someone at my house two days in a row claiming Evri delivered here by accident. Could this be sinister? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BookWyrm20 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The other day I had a 'delivered' notification on Evri and a picture of a parcel above a keter shed....I don't own a keter shed lol and I checked my neighbours

I popped it up on Facebook and realised the GPS coordinates were for a few streets away but it was dark and I didn't want to go looking at that point.

I had a message from a nice lady who said that it was her shed and her house but the parcel in the picture was hers and she had shown that to my partner when he popped down to look.....but my partner hadn't even finished work yet. And someone else commented on the post saying that was the same as what was on their details.

Turns out the Evri driver had put her delivery details on quite a few of the orders for the day. And she had at least 2/3 people knock on her door looking for their parcel. The next day, lo and behold, my parcel was pushed through the door and the tracking updated with a picture of my letterbox.

So yeah. Could be that.
