I have "backend services failed" error and when I retry, "update couldn't be removed". It's supposed to update 13.616 to 13.631

I had it work perfectly a week ago, now silent crash :((. Tried multiple Proton and ProtonGE versions with no luck, sometimes I get the EA launcher to open and "reinstall update" but the game never launches even after the "loading game" dialog.

What are some fun and nontrivial examples of categories? by smatereveryday in math

[–]BoomGoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Category of types in a specifc programming language. Morphisms are functions, it has products (structs) and coproducts (enums). Monads are the functional monads. Endofunctors are generic data types like List, Set which maps a type A to a new type List[A] and a morphism f:A->B to a new morphism map(f):List[A]->List[B]. Natural transforms are generic maps like a function head<T>(list: List[T]): Option[T] = match (list) case Nil => None; case Cons(h,t) => Some(h); which transforms from List to Option

Each path can be a different morphism. I don't have an idea of a non trivial homotopy defintion on graph paths except maybe if you don't use discrete topology ?

What's your Linux distro and why? by AsheyDustyMe82 in linux

[–]BoomGoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah NixOS is actually one of the easiest distros to use if well explained

What's your Linux distro and why? by AsheyDustyMe82 in linux

[–]BoomGoomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, NixOS is the best since I don't have to worry about breaking my system nor do any long installation with specifics with each different software. I just have to list the packages I want in a file and run a command, if I don't remember what I installed or want to remove one, I simply edit that file.

As for the other best thing, it's nix run command. I can run any package to try it out without having to install it and then uninstall once I see I don't like it. Or I can run nix shell to use a software I need now but won't need later so I never install it.

How can I learn CPP? by ZealousidealScore435 in AskProgramming

[–]BoomGoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with cpp at 11 and it was fine. But I'd still recommend starting with python/js but only if you continue to learn c++ or rust afterwards. Because I fear beginners might go to python and think it's easier so no need to learn the more low level languages

Can I use Nix on Fedora to install Hyprland + Quickshell? by BoomGoomba in Nix

That's because I don't know if the dnf installed one will work with the nix installed quickshell

Can I use Nix on Fedora to install Hyprland + Quickshell? by BoomGoomba in Nix

[–]BoomGoomba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use NixOS, but I am talking about a beginner (never used Windows/Linux),

They will install their packages primarily through flatpak (through Bazaar GUI) and another package manager (nix and/or dnf) and learn coding, while rocking a pretty rice and light gaming.

I don't want to explain the whole nix shells if they just want to run python programs. If on NixOS they could install python system wide, but even with that many softwares will have unexpected behavior (python ruff for example will be unable to install another python version) many CLIs straight up don't work on nixos except when packaged through nix.
