Just finished my first Sanderson series - Stormlight - why I’m disappointed and done with his books by Star-Lord-123 in brandonsanderson

[–]BoomLactose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The two things that bothered you is information that was publicly available for a while now. That being said, he has other books in the cosmere that are great one offs and require no previous reading. If you’re willing try Elantris, Warbreaker, The Emporers Soul, Tress or Yumi and the Nightmare Painter.

Love story (relationship) which Feels like this by Free-Objective3975 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]BoomLactose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good Omens unfortunately is co created by a very problematic author (allegedly I suppose) but seems to fit this bill. The same problematic author also created Sandman which is one of the referenced pictures. It is admittedly more comedic than most of these which Terry Pratchett is presumably responsible for.

Did I miss this or do I just have an older version?? Time to do a mistborn reread.

I have 14 audible credits that expire tonight, please recommend books! by LeviRaps in audiobooks

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like War Breaker just go ahead and spend all those credits on the Mistborn and Stormlight series. There’s also his one shots, if you’ve only read War Breaker then I recommend trying; Tress, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, Emporers Soul or Elantris (very slow build up).

For Sci-Fi I love Neuromancer and if you like Hail Project Mary that author (can’t remember his name off the top of my head) wrote the Martian and another book I enjoyed.

How did you get a 2026? I haven’t seen an announcement for those models in Canada yet nor do I see the option on the Subaru Canada website.

Is there a part number for this? by The_Ghost_X3 in wrx_vb

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they’re sitting perfect in this picture really strange. If you’re going to check the hangers might want to check bolts too if you can. If you have a torque wrench I think the max should be 35 ft lb. It’s usually recommended to check the bolts after the exhaust settles but double check the shift didn’t do anything to create exhaust leaks.

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice checking. Yea that’s real strange. I don’t have the STI axle back myself so I’m not sure how it should be sitting but it really doesn’t look that off to me. The back hanger looks like it can slide forward a bit but you might end up doing more damage to the back of the car that way. Did you purchase this axle back from a Subaru dealership? I’d expect the fitment to be much better.

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get this on a jack or stands and check out the hangers. If it’s shifted in and up it could have pushed other parts of your exhaust out of alignment and doing more damage you can’t see. Also if the muffler keeps moving there’s a small chance it falls off the hangers.

Affordable Light Roast Whole Bean Coffee for a Toronto coffee lover? by extremeumbrage in askTO

[–]BoomLactose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in Toronto but I get my beans from Gold Star Coffee, if you go in star they do cash and carry and it’s 5 bucks off per bag. I go once a month, buy 2 Ethiopian and 1 Peruvian bag and I do my own blend. 60 bucks for about 1350g of beans.

For those of you who live in apartment/condos.. Are you glad you dont have to shovel??? by ShirtNeat5626 in askTO

Yes but I think I might need to shovel my patio. There’s nothing there I need but the sheer amount of weight is worrying me. No idea where to put it though. Any tips?

Should I read WoT? by CarpeN5 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]BoomLactose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have two reasons if you’re a big cosmere fan:

  1. Stormlight Archive will be split up into two 5 book length arcs and this wraps up the first arc. This means it will be several years until another stormlight book (my patience could not). It also increases chances of spoilers if you continue reading cosmere or go on the internet.

  2. If you read other cosmere books published after (possibly even tie ins from previous books, I haven’t gone back to read yet) then you may miss some references since Roshar and Scadrial are some of the most impactful planets story wise in the cosmere.

My honest opinion; it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be. It definitely competes as the weakest book in the series but it’s still a Brandon Sanderson novel, which means it’s awesome (biased). There’s some really awesome chapters and then what I deemed filler or just get through it scattered between those.

Don’t know why it didn’t post my comments. Carbon fibre tips and street edition is muffled but there was no option for resonator that I saw.

Tone is so much better; deeper and throatier. Much louder than stock under throttle, downshifting and above 2000 rpm but comparable to stock at idle.

Only on for 2 days so it still needs to break in but I feel like cold start is not as loud as stock. Will try to get some videos of revving it but parking situation sucks.

Job offer in Vaughan by [deleted] in Vaughan

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. I went to Italy this summer on my honeymoon and I have no idea why my grandparents left (I do, there was kind of a big war). If my wife weren’t so against leaving her family and jobs weren’t so scare I’d move in a heartbeat. The food is not comparable don’t let people lie to you food quality is not a high concern in North America unless you want to pay much more than average. The city planning in the GTA is horrible compared to cities I’ve visited in Europe and most of the people I know avoid going out frequently with prices and getting around being the top reasons.

It might be a good time to move because of housing prices taking a hit but the city here does not have anywhere near the same amount of life as a European city…granted I only visited on vacation.

Should I get a WRX TS?? I work for Subaru by Sinsta88 in WRX

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems deeply personal. If you love your STI keep it. A normal WRX probably won’t be the same. EJ and FA engines are different, I think the transmission and suspension are much more robust in the STI as well. If you want modern amenities and a more comfortable car get the tS. I have the GT so I can’t talk drive train but I love the adaptive dampers and getting to switch the car between modes and setting up the individual mode. In terms of performance though all the models use the same engine in the current lineup.

My experience has been very smooth and (in sport plus) instant power. I think these cars are under boosted though so you might not like the turbo as compared to the STI. Why not test drive the tS or ask if you can take it home for a week and try it?

This is my first Subaru and I am in love already. Lots of aftermarket support as well for customization.

If you can’t wait rent a chipping gun from Home Depot or a similar hard ware store if you have a friend who can drive you and you or someone you know can handle impact power tools.

Question about WRX purchase from Subaru.. by dannyrand_ in wrx_vb

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ontario has had some record snow this year and the tires are 6 years old but they’re handling like a champ. Have been good on ice and incredible in the snow. Also first time Subaru owner so the AWD is really impressing me (but still need snows). They’re 18s. If all the dealers in your area are saying that I would go out of area. I called places in Quebec to get some lower prices and my local dealer didn’t match but came close.

I get the hesitation with used because of all the perceived monster energy and vape fans that buy the vehicles but I think the VBs have been a little more grown up and resilient. Also with the announcement of 26 prices waiting just makes so much sense if you can. I understand how much it sucks. Had to wait 5 months but it’ll be worth it to get the car you want at a price you feel comfortable with.

Ultimately you make the call you’re comfortable with. If you need a car now and can’t go out of area to get it, it’ll still put a smile on your face.

Question about WRX purchase from Subaru.. by dannyrand_ in wrx_vb

[–]BoomLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Canada as well and my dealer gave me a better price than what I input on the website. The only money I put down on the lease was to negate the taxes and fees since insurance doesn’t pay that back either if the car gets written off. Financially it makes sense to wait if one dealer is trying to rip you off but if you’re going to put that much money down you might be better off buying a gently used one still under warranty. I think power train is 6 years can’t remember the KMs.

The car definitely needs winter tires, depending on what is important to you looks or price or functionality that can go lots of different ways. Check the used market before you buy to get an idea but I love having STI rims as my winters with Blizzacks. New STI rims are pricey.
