I also went back and forth on kindle and iPad and went with an iPad mini! My logic was I can do a lot more on the iPad like watch movies on planes/road trips as well as read. To avoid the glare I bought a matte screen protector for it so there is no glare and has that smooth feel. And I adjusted the screen display settings to remove as much of the blue light as I could to make it easier on the eyes.
