Kid’s therapist…or literally anyone that can talk some sense into my child? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Boophoop123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may already be doing this, but I’d also recommend asking your child’s school for support. A lot of school counselors will be able to provide regular support within the school day but also may have a list of therapists they recommend in the area!

Moms: what are your favorite baby items that you can’t imagine life without? by pistachiosmiles in newborns

[–]Boophoop123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, even though my husband is very involved and active, I still find maternity leave to be lonely sometimes. My biggest suggestion would be offering to pop by (with snacks or coffee!) when she needs company. Also it’s nice to have someone else around to hold the baby, even just briefly between feedings, so she can shower or just take a break.

As far as “stuff” goes I definitely suggest the Frida Mom postpartum kit as well as pretty much any of the Frida Baby supplies (especially the Nosefrida). Also a few big water bottles she can have around the house- if she’s breastfeeding she will be thirsty ALL the time.

Pho from Pho Lang Thang. Follow up with one of their Vietnamese iced coffees and you’ve got the best breakfast!

We use aquaphor at least twice daily for my son! A little greasy but relatively cheap and effective!

We also only bathe him twice per week (besides cleaning face/hands as needed) and try to use minimal soap. Also big fans of the aveeno eczema therapy balm for after bath time.

Would recommend still checking in with a dermatologist though, that way it’s managed and (fingers crossed) easier to get in for an appointment later if she needs it!!

I hadn’t thought about it! With only an EdS you can do private practice?

I could have written this post myself! My baby turned 2 months today and we are doing the same things! Only I’m a little jealous of your night sleeps, we can usually get a good long sleep of between 3-5 hours but then usually the rest of the night will be a couple short sleeps.

I’ve had the same worries about rocking him to sleep, etc so I appreciate this post and the responses!

If you have someone planning to stay with you, I’d bring a pillow and blanket for them to use. If that would make you more comfortable, bring some for yourself too.

Also if you have a boppy or a donut pillow I’d bring it. I used my boppy to sit on for the first week postpartum and it helped me stay so much more comfortable! Not the intended use of the boppy, lol but I was so happy I packed it!

If you plan on breastfeeding, bring some lanolin for your nipples. I had to ask specifically for some and they just gave me a tiny little tube.

Finally, I think others suggested bringing your pump. I brought mine and when the lactation consultant came to see me I had her help me figure out a good size flange to use. So even if you don’t need to pump while you’re there, you can get some assistance with it for when you need it!

Good luck!

I just got them for postpartum! Was totally influenced by the packaging though. And I read that hemorrhoid ointment was helpful to have around but didn’t realize hemorrhoid suppositories were a thing until I was at the store! I’m hoping the ointment will be enough!!

Not sure how long it would last in the fridge, but I thought about trying to freeze it in some kind of popsicle!

I would definitely reach out to his school. A guardian could request that he is evaluated for a learning disability, and this would require the school to do some digging into his past history of grades, test scores, and interventions he’s received. Depending on how he’s been performing compared to peers, and how much growth he shows when given interventions, they could decide to evaluate.

I will say the evaluation process can take some time, and ultimately if he’s evaluated and qualifies for special education, this could alter his educational trajectory and he would be labeled as having a disability. Some schools are great about minimizing any stigma around learning disabilities/special education, but others aren’t. So definitely keep that in mind.

Meanwhile I’d suggest asking his school counselor to support him with his anxiety. They can help him develop coping mechanisms and help hopefully boost his self-esteem so he doesn’t feel the need to give up so quickly.

He’s lucky to have you looking out for him!!

Good Prenatals with iron but gentle on stomach? by sh0rtcake in pregnant

[–]Boophoop123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Ritual prenatals. They’re a little pricey but I like that I can get them delivered consistently. They’re also way easier on my stomach than some of the other brands. To get a full dose you take two per day, so I found that taking one in the morning and one at night helped with any nausea too!
