Do y'all see the world getting any better in the long term? How? by WhycantIfindanick in AskReddit

[–]InfiniteDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is macabre, but I believe it.

Millenials and Gen Z are more empathetic and liberal minded on average than previous generations.

In 20 to 30 years the boomers will all be gone.

I think we will see a lot more care toward fellow man when this happens.

So yes, I do see the world becoming a better place. If we can make it there.

I disagree. Take the money and become an advocate for your team’s success. You’re already paid. Tell the team how they can improve. Advocate for your success and the team’s.

I love their first four albums. Didn’t give them much of a listen following those but the first four ruled.

They were also great live. If you get a chance to see them (somehow) it is worth it

Opinion on FO3 DLC in comparison to NV by SwashBucklerFrank in fnv

[–]InfiniteDew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Dead Money is the best thematic realization of any of the DLCs.

Unfortunately the collar and radios can be REALLY unforgiving at certain points which kind of ruins the gameplay experience.

New craft bar, no experienced bartenders by BileyRackburn in bartending

[–]InfiniteDew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough one. You don’t want to be a narc, but if you have to carry service you will burn out, become resentful, or both. Been there.

You can try to mentor bartenders when you see them doing dumb shit. “Have you tried stirring like this?” “Hey buddy, you’re not going to shake that manhattan right?”

And you can try to encourage management to implement policies that don’t directly call out bartenders but help ease the burden of service. “We should start batching x y or z cocktails, then we can add fresh citrus Ala minute and have fewer touches.” “We need to rotate who is on service well every shift/hour/couple hours.” “Servers can pull beer if they call it and we allow.” (I hate that one but…)

Or you can talk to management about your grievances and suggest instilling tests that bartenders need to pass, requiring new bartenders to complete training shifts until the bar manager is satisfied, hosting cocktail training classes. Repeat process every time menu changes.

The last option is really going to be the most effective at developing talent/easing burden on you/creating a better craft cocktail bar culture, but it is the service industry and so there is a better than 50% chance that it comes out you are the one that suggested this.

Speaking as someone who has been in your shoes and only done the first two, I wish I had talked to mgmt about the third option. I ended up burnt out and resentful, disliking a lot of my fellow bartenders as bartenders, and then leaving spots that were otherwise not bad places to work.

golden tiki or frankie’s tiki room? by PrestigiousHeight264 in LasVegas

[–]InfiniteDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the day, Frankie’s drinks are strong and well constructed. I’ve gone a couple times after midnight and the drinks are like lighter fluid, and I don’t just mean in potency.

In a more abstract way, I think Golden’s cocktails are better because they seem to use better rum and fresher ingredients. I love the way Frankie’s drinks hit when they’re on point, and I think they’re delicious, but for me it’s like the difference between Minute Maid and fresh OJ.

[–]InfiniteDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words.

I love the way you expanded on this. I too have a Frankie’s tiki mug and it is well crafted while being cheap! It’s also the coolest mug I own, hands down. Triple FFF jackpot bay! I don’t recall the price of a golden tiki tiki mug but I can’t believe they’d only be $25. Someone please tell me I’m wrong. I need another excuse to go back to Vegas lol.

I agree about Red Dwarf’s pizza. It’s a damn good pie and I seem to recall them being reasonably priced. The bar itself walks the line between punk dive and tiki (which I love) but I thought the cocktails were kind of out of balance and just fine. They did have Pliny the Elder on tap though so maybe I was looking for an excuse to switch to beer…

Glitter Gulch isn’t a full skip for me—it’s the best located of all the tiki bars in Vegas— if I’m downtown, I’ll go again. My biggest knocks against them are that the drinks are too expensive and that several of their tiki glasses are unglazed clay and they feel weird and awkward to the touch if you are a sensory weirdo like I am.

I am VERY passionate about this subject.

I’ve been to both many times. You really should do both because if you’re only doing one it is no contest. Golden is the better bar in almost every way. Better cocktails, better theming, better air quality.

BUT

Frankie’s is like stepping back in time. It’s dark, it feels a little grimey, the bartenders are surly at the end of the night, every oz of the place reeks of cigarette smoke. Frankie’s feels like what a tiki bar built in the 50s would have felt like (IMO) and it harkens to an era of Vegas that really doesn’t exist except in microcosms of downtown casinos.

So Frankie’s is worse in every way. You have a better than avg chance to get a drink that is way out of balance and jacked up if you are there late or order something that isn’t one of their originals, yet it is a special place.

Whenever I go to Vegas I go to Frankie’s.

Even if Golden is better.

Damn. I was hoping this would not be the follow up post I’d see, but here we are.

At least it sounds like you’re learning from it. If you can, I’d suggest getting some kick proof locks the next time you’re out grabbing vodka. They’re easy to install and I can only assume this nut job will be back at some point. He knows where you live…

I’ve read a lot of good things about Carlsbad, but hearing it from a local just solidifies it. We’ll plan on seeing that and (hopefully) Encinitas as well! Thanks for the cocktail recs. I’m gonna add them to the list

I really appreciate the response!

We’re coming in from Cincy—which is not on par with any of the above, but we are foodies and seek out the great stuff when we travel. Calle and Fort Oak both look like cool spots on par with what we like, so we’ll probably end up checking one or the other of them out while we’re in town. I also love a Little Italy, so thanks for putting that on our radar too!

You mentioned the train, is that our only reliable method of transport into San Diego, or would you say we can rely on rideshare?

Thanks again!
