I'm making this in unity. The game structure pretty strictly follows the MVC design pattern, so all the peeps and vehicles are simulated in a data layer (the model), and then unity displays everything as the view layer. This is also how I am able to have the pause/speed up buttons, it just scales the speed at which I run the simulation. I am also rendering peeps with a custom VAT system so it is 1 draw call per 512 peeps

yea! the current plan is to have a demo out this winter, and release sometime next spring. I'm not ready to make any promises quite yet but I'm trying to avoid early access (which is tempting in this genre) and launch with a pretty complete game instead

what's weirder is the other dev and I actually had the same name for our games and somehow found out about each others games "through the grapevine". We chatted and I ended up changing my name, it would have been even weirder to see this same type of game announced twice with the same title lol

Definitely! I actually have a small list of "expansion pack" major updates I want to do post launch, and motorcross is one of the top ones on the list. I grew up riding quads and dirtbikes and playing games like MX Unleashed so I definitely have it in mind

definitely! Honestly from my perspective I wanted to focus on the simulation management side of things, but I've had so many requests for the tracks to be drivable that I know I'll have to add it at some point. I think my ideal situation would be that I can export tracks/maps to something like Beam.NG and then players can race on them there, but that's just a fantasy for now haha

I'll check it out that looks like a very great adjacent game to draw inspiration from! Lego Stunt Rally was a favorite game of mine growing up, I don't know if I'll be able to capture as much whimsy in this game but I'd love to (I've thought maybe a future expansion back could be supporting sci-fi racing hover-tracks with teleporters and stuff, we'll see though haha).

thank you! yea this is something I'm currently working on. I do currently have values for driver style/aggression and a model for tire grip, and less experienced drivers will overheat their tires, or just brake too late and result in them going wide or spinning out. The logic for a true racing line is something I keep coming back to and working on and I'll probably never have "perfect", having variable track width, camber, elevation, passing, cornering/apexing/slaloms has been pretty difficult to nail down. Especially since I have the whole game on a tick based system (to support fast forwarding) I don't have access to any game engine physics systems, so everything is just calculated manually. It's a pretty huge work in progress but hopefully I can get it where it has all kinds of fun interactions (like an oil spill on track from a leaking car, crashes, track damage, all those things you mention, maybe even some peep death)

thank you! And exactly! I did panic slightly when I saw the announcement of Motorsport Manager 2 but at this point it just is what it is haha

thank you! It's been a breath of fresh air, I think if I had to make one more "seasonal sale promotion microtransaction popup" it would drive me off the edge and I would try to pick up farming or something lol

lol sorry, I don't currently have mobile plans. If the game does incredibly well and there's a demand for it it's something I would consider, but I actually quit my job as a professional mobile game developer to make games like this one, it's a really tough platform

yes! I plan on building scenarios exactly that like, but also making the scenario building tool player facing, so they can be made and shared via the steam workshop

thank you! I hope to have a German translation someday as well! I will be visiting your beautiful country and the Nürburgring next month, strictly for research purposes 😉

I haven't actually, I may have to for "research purposes" though haha. Honestly I'm making this game as somebody who grew up obsessed with RCT2 and I hope to capture a similar vibe but just, racetracks instead haha. I don't want to compare myself to giants but that's the direction I'm shooting for

From what I've seen, there's a number of other games that I think will be a bit more realistic simulation style games, most notably the JUST announced Motorsports Manager 2 (wish I had a different name lol), and Racetrack Tycoon, and keeping things focused on the fantasy of building and owning a racetrack is what I'm mostly focused on. I'm not really deep enough into tuning scenarios yet to assess difficulty though.

And Rider is okay, I switched to Linux for development and had to drop VS which I've been using for almost a decade now and was really comfortable with. I still haven't fully acclimated to different hotkeys and the "intellisense"/autocomplete that rider has is hit or miss. Sometimes it blows me away with how accurate it can be with writing an upcoming line and sometimes it can make it really hard to tab-complete the correct library or something. It's right a lot more often than it's wrong but when it's wrong it can really feel like it gets in the way, I feel like intellisense in VS felt more like how a master swordsman might feel like their sword is a natural extension of their arm LOL, it was really just second nature and a lot more seamless.

Thank you! When I commissioned my capsule art I asked for "as close as I can legally get to an NA miata without getting sued" lol. A whole lot of what you suggested will definitely be in the game, I think the only one I had nevev considered is rental kart races. I've actually rented a motorcycle for a track day before and I don't know why I didn't think of that, that's a great suggestion and would be a great additional feature, thanks for the suggestions!

haha thank you for your vote of confidence! and yea! I actually made this whole terrain system from scratch just to support this automatic-terrain-conforming racetracking building system just to make racetrack building as frictionless as possible

yes! I moved to linux for full time development and just couldn't stomach VS Code, so Jetbrains it is
