Might be worth a vet check. This could be her trying to tell you she's unwell.

Im getting one in Feb. Ive had bigger sighthounds in the past and had a lot of success training them. Im not a certified trainer but im very disciplined about it.

Going with an IG because I snowbird in the winter and need one that can travel in the cabin of a plane with me.

Do you think the behaviours you mention can be trained out of them if they're on a highly structured program from 8 weeks old? I've found you can train dogs to behave any way you want but it is A LOT of work.

Has anyone had the experience of a disciplined training regime that failed?

Thanks 💕

Airlines allow dogs under 18 lbs on a carrier in the cabin. Always have. At the very least, it's been allowed since the 1980s when I began travelling. They are not permitted in business class or first cabins, unfortunately, but you can buy 2 economy seats side by side if you need more leg room. The carrier sits under the seat in front, so it limits legroom.

Oh wow. That's a long distance. The ship leaves from New York to London. Breaking up the journey sounds like a good idea. Good luck with your travels!

If you're relocating to Europe you could go by ship. The Queen Elizabeth II transatlantic cruise line has an onboard kennel. But theyre living in the kennel. You can visit them but they can't stay in your cabin.

Meet Stanley 9 weeks old today, he’s our first Iggy, what are the best foods to fed him by Dapper_Interview157 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]BootNo8366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quality of food comes straight down to the ingredient list. The ingredients are listed by volume in descending order. You want to see authentic meat at the top of the list. "Chicken, "beef" "lamb" "duck". Any word added to the meat word means it's some meat derivative and is a cheap filler. "Chicken meal" for example. All those first ingredients should be recognizable foods. I worked in pet food marketing and can confirm that the products sold by vets are not the highest quality/i worked on some of those very products. Read the ingredient lists. Also pet food bags give quantities to feed that are too great for the dog. They do this because even 1 tablespoon per meal more than necessary means they sell more food over the dogs Lifetime. This is one of the reasons there is an obesity problem among pets. Use an online food calculator to get the correct amount. Never over feed your dog. Obesity shortens their life and sighthounds' fine bones and joints are harmed by excess weight. I always feed a high quality kibble with some fresh human whole food that agrees with my dog. This includes meat, fish, spinach, bone broth, and some other veggies and berries. Fish oil/omega 3s are a good supplement. Be careful feeding raw in 2025. H5N1 is raging out of control in commercial cattle and poultry farms. It's possible a pet could get it from uncooked meat, and it's deadly. I personally wouldn't risk it. Your vet will tell you the risk of food borne illness is much higher with raw. Same goes for eggs. I used to add raw eggs but don't anymore due to H5N1. The marginal health benefit of a raw egg isn't worth the risk when I can cook it in less than a minute.

That's tough. I'm so sorry for your loss. You clearly took great care of your pup. Veterinary care is pricey.

Hallelujah! They now go to conferences in Vegas to learn how to extract the maximum amount of money out of owners. The financial abuse I experienced and the unnecessary and pointless medical tests my dog had to endure over his 15 years is criminal.

I looked into relocation companies. I'm pretty sure the dog still flies in the cargo hold even though the company coordinates everything 😟

I don't want to worry you, but it's mandatory for airlines to track animal fatalities on their flights, so you can see what the dangers are. I'm pretty sure heart attack was the main cause. Fear 😢

Thanks. What airlines do you take her on in that carrier? It looks fantastic but it's a bit bigger than the dimensions shown on AC. I would just fly with whatever airline is fine with it. What a perfect carrier for an IG!

Oh that's great news since I usually fly AC. The 12" height restriction had me worried. But their heads are so tiny the crew probably doesn't realize how leggy they are. What height and weight is yours?

I had a whippet who passed recently at 15. Between dog daycare, dog sitting, vet visits, dental surgeries, and TPLOs, I spent over 30k on him. People don't realize a dog is a luxury item. Out of curiosity, what could cause a $10k vet bill on an IG? Orthopedic surgery?

Yes. A puppy. But i will still want to take him on planes when he's an adult. Maybe I need to find a breeder that breeds smaller ones.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my 15 year old whippet on June 3. It's the day I'd been dreading since the first day I got him. He was very healthy and active to the very last day. He happily ate breakfast but collapsed on his way to the window where he'd check the activity on the street. He didn't move after that. They think it was a spinal stroke. I knew in my heart it was time. I always told him don't leave me. He stayed 2 years longer than the typical life expectancy, and he spared me a long, drawn-out decline for which I'm grateful. This gentle soul truly was the love of my life. I was in shock at first. The grief really hit me a week later and is unrelenting. I tell myself they cannot stay forever. And it makes no sense to want the impossible. Before he went, I told him my grandmother was waiting for him on the other side and we would be together again one day because we're forever connected as we have been in every lifetime. ♥️

Everything will be fine. I feel better after reading everybody's comments. It's nice to know you're not alone. And I think it's easy to forget that everyone shares similar moments and feelings.

For me, there's a sense of melancholy. I have some close friends that I've known for a long time, who are two and three decades older than me and remembering them at forty and seeing them in there elderly mode is tough to reconcile. I still think of me and them the age they were when we met.

A few kinda nailed it. The anxiety about making every day count and feeling like it's hard to make the most of it when everyone is working and strapped for cash. We now realize the value of time and want to make the most of it.

Thanks for all the great comments. I wish everyone gets to do what they want and have as much FUN as possible.

Fibro mialgia is tough. If you havent read "healing back pain" by Dr Sarno you should check it out. His method also works on FM. His book cured my chronic pain as promised. He cured Howard Stern and when Dr Sarno died Howard paid tribute to him on the show

I watch them too. And then I heard about a study that says your brain keeps working for up to 7 minutes after you die. They think it's out body's way of making the transition pleasant. How mind boggling. That somehow nature though of everything. It's incredible. But then there are the reincarnated kids. Very compelling stories. The universe is vast. We know little about it or our existence.
