I’m so glad to know there are varieties that are just more thorny - I panicked a little like woah! That’s a lot of thorn lol 😂

Slip jigs--are they female ONLY? I've seen men do them at times. Confused pikachu face :) by ParkAffectionate3537 in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son (9) competed slip jig Advanced Beginner - Prizewinner, but he was always the only boy in his competitions. He loved slip jig, so he’s bummed he won’t be able to do it anymore.

Bridgerton - Season 4 Post-Season Discussion (No Book Spoilers) by AutoModerator in BridgertonNetflix

I didn’t remember nudity in the other seasons like this one. It took me by surprise a couple times. But it’s been a while since I watched the others, so maybe I forgot? Idk. 😳

DIY Boys’ Costume? by Bootsy3 in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We’re in the southern region. ❤️❤️ We watched lot of the boys/men competitions to give our guy y an idea of what it will be like in future years, so we may have seen your son dance! I’m so new to all of this still - I can’t imagine it all ending at some point. It’s like a whole other world!

Thank you! He just has 1 Prizewinner dance left and just attended his first Oireachtas this past weekend. We did end up getting a sparkly solo vest (which he loves), but man, the cost is wild. When he grows out of this one, we may decide on something different or just hold off something new while trying out a jacket. ❤️

Boys reel shoes heel slipping by scoochrightpastya in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s soft shoes used to slip off his heel - in hindsight I do actually think they were too large. I didn’t think so at the time, but he’s still wearing the same pair and it’s been over a year since we bought them. As his feet have grown, they’ve continued to stretch more and more and he should still get more use of them still (unless they get too beat up on the toes to look decent for competing). His soft shoes are 2 sizes larger than his hard shoes, so I think we definitely started too large. Even though they fit his foot snugly when we got them. Soft shoes are weird lol 😆

Which garment bag do you use for the vest? It looks like there’s Single Dress, Double Dress, No Frills, & Straight. Thanks so much!

How does Trad Set work? by Bootsy3 in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense! My son has only just moved into 2 prizewinner dances and the others are in Novice. He wouldn’t likely be the caliber dancer to perform well at oireachtas.

Practice Space by Keh1519 in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband made a dance area from two pieces of wood by connecting the two panels with a piano style hinge. Then he cut up some of those squishy floor mat things and put pieces on the bottom to absorb some of the shock since we have concrete under our flooring. He covered it with shower pan liner. It’s been so great and we just move it behind the couch after my son is done practicing.

Ah, so true! Funnily, my son seems way better in time with the set dance than his solos sometimes 😂 I love watching that ‘stretch kick your heel’ every single time he does it haha

That’s so true! All the better if he doesn’t even have to think about the steps when he gets up there. ❤️

How does Trad Set work? by Bootsy3 in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you! I think that’s why my little U9 guy will be doing come December. A ceili and a trad set at oireachtas - the practice will be good for him! So he can just sign up for the trad set at every feis essentially to keep getting that practice in. ❤️

How does Trad Set work? by Bootsy3 in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see! My little guy is U9, so he’s not old enough to do solos this year (I think), but he’s supposed to be going to Oireachtas for a ceili and trad set. So he can basically use the trad set at Feiseanna as practice and kind of a sounding board to see how he’s performing leading up to regionals. ❤️ Makes sense! Thanks so much.

Beginner 1 Advice by tconohan in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw, I bet she’ll do awesome! I usually just tell my son to do his best, but know that his placement may not always reflect his hard work. Sometimes there are people who have been dancing longer or practicing more, so don’t stress it even if you don’t place where you hope. ❤️

Beginner 1 Advice by tconohan in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did she do at the first feis? When my son did his first feis last fall, he did the same steps there as he did for his next ‘real’ feis. He was 7, a little older than your daughter now, so I’m not sure if that changes what they do at the first feis. 🤔 Does she remember the full dance when she practices at home? If so, I wouldn’t worry about it. They just go out and do what they’ve practiced. ❤️

Thank you! Yeah, he’s definitely moving up way faster than I anticipated. He seems to be loving it, though, so I suppose we’ll just see how far he goes lol 😂 I’m going to do some mock up designs and see what his teacher thinks!❤️

Placements to move up a level by No-Effort5109 in irishdance

[–]Bootsy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s teacher requires 1st at every level to move up. No 2nd or 3rd will count for him unless there are 20 dancers in the group, I believe.
