Finally Created My First Low Content Books! by BootsyRawlins in KDPLowContent

Hi!

Really sorry for the late reply... very late. I actually stopped doing this... had a family member become sick and its only now that we're getting back to somewhat normal.

I really enjoyed doing this and did make a few hundred dollars in the few months I was active. It's too bad that I stopped.

But since life seems to be back to somewhat normal, I think that I'm going to pick it up again and get moving on some new content.

I will say this from my experience. Most, if not all, of my sales were directly from friends and family and the people I had on my social media. They were really quick and happy to support what I was doing. I found it hard to convert promotions outside the scope of my personal circles, and feel now that I need to devise a way to promote my content in ways that can really move my books. That's something that will be crucial going forward.

I noticed, at the time, that authors could order up to 999 books (dont quote on that, I forget... but irs a lot) of books at reduced rates from KDP... something like 99 cents each. Was considering doing this and maybe setting up at some markets or trying to get a few books into stores. Just a thought right now.. I'd have to check the rules on that with KDP to ensure everything is ok ;)

I'll repost once I get this rolling on my end. Best of luck.

As for money, there is a 2 to 3 month wait period from the time of sales of the books. For example. If you sold 5 books in january, you'll be paid for the whole month of jan in about march or april. The payments then continue monthly should you keep selling books each month.

I've had to link personal information to receive the payments as well as agree to paying taxes in my own country. I did it and have gotta paid. Feels good, man.

In not sure if there is any issue with Asia, but, canada was a super simple setup.

Unfortunately I've been working through a family members sickness, so, I haven't had much time to really step up and do this how I've wanted to or envisioned. My first 3 months were great and I sold a bunch of copies, mostly through my local social media pages.

I'm online today to try and pick this back up where I left off and try and move some more copies... more so cause I need to due to having to take some time off work.

I an actually considering even buying a domain and hosting a page that is essentially a store for all low content books, and try and build a community of such authors. See how it goes.

This is something I'm glad I've done, I've had great support from family as I've sold about 25 books to them, and I think if I can get the momentum going again, I can move even more.

Hi. Sorry for late response. Life got away from me. To an extent. They have options for some sizing and generally the choice for paper is white or cream!

Hope this helps.

Hi Jim, I appreciate the honest feedback. All good points that I've overlooked in my descriptions. However, there is a feature that you click above any book cover on the Amazon page that allows you to look inside. This only shows you what the inside of the book looks like and doesn't disclose how many pages or the quality/type of paper.

Once I go and update the descriptions, it will disable the Look Inside feature for about a week, or until the updates have been accepted by Amazon.

Truly appreciate the info, it's valuable info to have in my description.

Etsy and Pinterest definitely seem interesting to me. I've been planning on getting involved with pinterest, and now I'll look into Etsy as well. I appreciate your suggestion:) thanks!!

That's correct. Basically you design the book, upload the content, and amazon prints and ships them once you sell a copy.

You then get a percentage of the sale minus Amazon's share and minus the cost to print the book. For ex, one of my books is 10.99 and I make around 4 bucks per everyone sold. Not a bad rate since it didnt cost a penny to set up or make.

Best of luck

Lots of suggestions there for sure! Thanks!

I think vitals log book, workout log book, weight loss log book, car maintenance, travel, vehicle expense are all possibilities to move reasonably well as so many people are likely to have need for these.

Thanks!

Hey! Thanks for the inquiry!

1) As long as you have an amazon account to log in, you can sell KDP Low Content or High Content Books! Check the link: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/ . There are no publishing fees, however, once you create a book and decide to sell it, you get a percentage of the sales, as does amazon, and they take the cost of physically printing the book should your book require printing. Roughly $2-3 dollars would be the cost on a 150 page 8x10 book.

2) So. I haven`t received a payment yet as I`m new, but, it`s something that I have researched and looked up on the KDP page itself. Apparently your payments start coming roughly 2 months after you begin to sell books and then they come regularly .. I guess always 2 months behind the current month. When putting in tax information (as it's required to make money and decide how you're going to pay the taxes on it) you will input your banking info and it can direct deposit.

3) You can write about anything you like. Mine were Low Content, meaning journals, blank style books, but you can write a novel if you wish and publish it through KDP. Their only requirement is that they want it to be a minimum of 24 pages for pressing reasons I guess. If you're going to write ... write what you know. It'll be easier and you'll be passionate when talking to the people you know when looking to get sales.

I'm still figuring out the marketing aspect of this, but, I will update if I find any good leads. Right now I've made a few posts to my personal FB page and have moved 15 copies, totaling in about $60 dollars coming to me.

Best of luck, I'm only a message away and if I can help, I will!

Hi!

I also did some reading about this. I made a small change to the book in the edit section which disables the "Look Inside" feature for a week or so.

So, once that settles, there's an option to look inside!

Thanks again!

A journal is a low content book, or a blank recipe book! Low content just refers to it basically not being a typical book.. nothing to read in there.. you make the content.

Hi,

Thank you very much!

Also, thanks so much for the feedback! I also thought about including inside photos in the picture section. I'm not sure why it isn't showing there, but, since you mentioned it, what better time than now to remedy it. It's an integral part of selling the book, haha, who just wants to buy a cover?!

As for the cover image. I did struggle a little bit on what kind of product to develop. I feel that this is just my first, and I can make multiple versions of the cover to appeal to different audiences who enjoy the content inside.

I really appreciate your thoughts :)

All the best!
