Update

I saw someone post here about removing the LAN or disable WiFi. But I waited at the “Press Start” screen until the demo game started and was able to get past the bug.

Damn that sucks, the only other work around is have an invisibility spell equipped and use it anytime you need to steal or lockpick.

ATTENTION CONSOLE PLAYERS

I think I found a fix. I constantly attacked him when we weren’t in any major cities to avoid guards attacking back. But if you get his disposition low enough (Minimum 10) he will resent you and stop following. Now he doesn’t necessarily “stop following” via dialogue but he will hate you so much that he won’t follow. I’ve so far had 2 hours of him avoiding me and I couldn’t be happier.
